Emulator runs are not banned site-wide, there is an option in each game's settings to allow emulator runs or not. As a moderator for the game you do have the ability to allow or disallow emulator runs as you wish.
Hard mode can't be done on new game, and NG+ really trivialises the game, as well as having a really harsh setup level requirement to be optimal. Easy mode also pretty much makes everything more trivial than it already is (most fights are already fairly brainless in Normal), but it also takes out the one difficult fight from the run (Final boss is also brainless on easy). Also the change in mechanics makes the run faster, but honestly more boring to perform. At least that's my opinion, and I think most other people broadly agree that neither are runs that we're interested in seeing, but may disagree on the specific reasons.

For gamecube games that we would be playing on Wii, what platform should we put down?
On the subject of Estimates for the run, should we put down a time that represents where we are with the game currently, or what we would expect to be come ESA? Or even, is it OK if we keep posting (either in this thread or somewhere else) with updates on our progress and what the estimate should be as time goes on. Main reason I'm asking is because if I'm just starting to run a game around this time, my estimate wouldn't necessarily reflect what time I could get in 4 months, but I can't necessarily guarantee I would be at a certain level before then. Also with speedrunning being constantly evolving, all it takes is a reroute or a new trick to lower an estimate. I assume this kind of decision would come at the second round of cuts, so is there a rough time period where you think this would take place?
Also some that I know of: Most of the Tales of Games have capability for Co-op Borderlands games Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Yoshi's Wooly World
There are plenty of co-op runs out there, its just a case of finding them
Hey guys, so I'm starting to learn New Game any%, and since they're the only notes around that I've found for now I was going to use FellVisage's, but I have a question already. Mainly: "Start checking shop for Amber Sword, Amber Earrings, Amber Circlet." (line 63) - I assume this is because you're looking for specific skills or price on the items, but I'm not entirely sure what?
Another question, is it possible to have a variable only apply to a single subcategory or is that not possible yet? I feel like currently it isn't possible, but I might have missed something. If it isn't, then is it something being considered?
Yeah unfortunately that skip was partly patched in PAL, still way faster to do the shortcut and fight him though than going the long way around. From what I remember, everything else in that route will work perfectly fine though. If anything the rest of elysia is a little easier on PAL since seekers aren't as terrible in that version. The only other difference that you'll really notice is that the Phaaze seedling isn't possible to quick-kill (3 charge beams only) on PAL, so that fight will always take you quite a bit longer, but for 100% that isn't really an issue since you have the health to deal with it without issue.
The best way to do it now is probably to use the sub-categories feature that the side added recently. (Info here http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/lac6h )
That way you can have like HD vs Original at top level, then NG vs NG+, and then have a third level on HD NG for difficulties if that makes sense. I'm fairly sure you can stack 3 levels like that, since they have about that many if not more in KH2.5.
There is some work being done on routing for a completion category at the moment, Something more concrete should arrive within a couple of months.
(This submission is a group pitch by the Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy speedrunning community. If either option is selected, we will let you know who will be running and commentating the games as appropriate once we're more sure who's available and when)
Game Name: Final Fantasy XIII-2 System: Xbox 360/PS3/PC Category: Any% Race (2 or more people, exact number to be determined) Gameplay Estimate: 3h 30m (Possibly lower depending on runners) Ending/Bonus Estimate: None Possible Donation Incentive: Character costumes (Possibly rolling, or per runner, or just one for everyone) Description: Final Fantasy XIII-2 Is the second game in the FF13 trilogy. Compared to its predecessor, the game has a fixed party of 2 characters, with the third slot taken up by a variety of monsters that are captured either from battle or obtaining crystals in the world. The speedrun consists of many fast battles and very little menuing for the length of the run, with the focal point of the run being the true power of the Ravager role, and the Chichu monster.
Game Name: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII System: Xbox 360/PS3/PC Category: Any% Race (2 or more people, exact number to be determined) Gameplay Estimate: 3h 15m (Possibly lower depending on runners) Ending/Bonus Estimate: None Possible Donation Incentive: Main Garb colour (Obtained about halfway through the run, colour can be adjusted at any point so again, rolling is possible) Description: Lightning Returns is a very different game to the other 2 games in the trilogy, with a battle system playing out more like an Action game than an RPG, and with exploitation of certain abilities to really make a lot of fights a lot faster than people would have experienced them casually. Farming for a certain item can be a bit of a sticking point in the run, but making this a race reduces that impact significantly, and although the number of fights isn't excessive, there is always something happening in the run. The final boss fight is especially intense and impressive to watch.
Sample run video for both submissions: Lightning Returns route has changed a bit since this relay, and 13-2 has had some minor optimisations, but the main structure is the same, and it's a good commentary example for both games.
(not sure how to quote)
"Not at this point. What case(s) do you require this for? "
I was thinking of using it for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. The categories can be split into Main: Any% / All Dungeons - Sub: Singleplayer / Co-Op / Singleplayer Glitchless
This would obviously require an upto 4 person subcategory for Co-Op runs alongside the singleplayer categories.
I honestly don't know since I've never run the game, I just know of this run
Game Name: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger System: Gamecube (Playing on a wii) Category: 100% Estimate: 2:30 Incentives: None Video: http://www.twitch.tv/mlstrm/c/5473094
Description: While not the most fast paced of platformers, Ty 100% is a very carefully routed category that obtains around 2000 items throughout the course of the run. There are many small tricks and shortcuts used, and is very interesting to watch, especially if you played the game casually. Availability: Any time
I would say any% makes sense since the game can be defined as "ending" on the defeat of Metroid Prime. If you want an example of this, take a look at the run done during the Metroid Marathon.
Is it possible for a subcategory to have a different number of players than the parent category?
"Any game for Wii needs to have Wii U as a console option.
Some ones that don't: Super Mario Galaxy "
To be clear, we won't add Wii U as a version for Super Mario Galaxy since it's still the Wii version of the game, just played on a different console.
While this viewpoint is understandable, it brings up the issue of having accurate leaderboards versus bowing to everyone's wishes on what runs should be represented. I'm all for people submitting runs of non-users if it keeps the board accurate, but I realise that other people don't necessarily share this view, just pointing out the other side of the story.
