Macros are not common accepted in many runs due to the nature of them as they are human skilled actions and they instead give an advantage over the mechanics within the game its self. Certain game breaking glitches will be rejected out of runs where its evident that its deemed and unfair advantage. Things that are fine that don't break the game but speed up animations and such are fine like overloading a magazine or reload canceling as examples. I can understand why this was the case be we do appreciate that you had at very least mentioned it in the first place.
Who ever the new people that are selected, I'm sure that they will do a fine job in helping out around the community more. I do hope that they find people that they think can fit what they are wanting or possibly looking for or to usher in to keep things moving.
additional note to those games mentioned they have community sites that were established for those games long before SRC so why would they have to come here instead? If they want to its up to them not us. SRC is just a hub to make it easier to collaborate with like minded people on the same or newer games should a general community place outside SRC does not already exist. If you ever tried to submit a game to SRC they ask if there is another place that does so for the game in question.
@Raichu do the runs and then talk to the community and the mods. You don't need to be added just because something is not there yet. It's better to avoid lots of empty board categories, it makes things look cluttered and or empty. If you then need to request a reasonable change in moderation then come back.
Honestly other then some of the aforementioned types of games, The worst kinds of games to speed run are games you will not enjoy or like. Play the game a few times try it out as a speed game get in touch with the existing community(ies) if there are any and just try and have fun and learn about the game and in the end if your not happy with playing the game or that interested in getting better at it then try something else.
? Gauntlet Trials (Standard,Core) ✏️ Rule Clarification
The original rule for time start was changed from: ~~ ♦ Timer starts when you select "Proceed to First Match". ~~ To ♦ Timer starts once you confirm the Difficulty. If Difficulty Selection isn't unlocked, Timer starts at "Proceed to Match".
This is for the purpose that not everyone will initially have Difficulty selection as an option if starting out. This should not disrupt any previously or newly submitted runs as they will all start from the last screen related to setting up for the run.
On small occasion I do as well but most of the time I prioritize the games I'm actively interested in the most, many people do as well. Having the option would not hurt but that is still far from what I think the actual dispute really is based on the body of text. We all like to browse some times, but also there is this twitter bot that tweets each time a new run is submitted so if you follow that you'll always know what kool new runs to check out so I do like viewing the new tweets about runs there the most. https://twitter.com/SpeedrunWRs?lang=en Credits to Gyoo for working on it.
I suggest following the bot if you'd like to keep up to date on recently submitted runs.
Plenty of community's have expanded or main-boards. My own issue with that is that they are not connected to SRC if they wish to have them linked with an actual video as record as well. Having some people choose to submit here if they wish is up to them and the community, if they don't see an issue or desire for it then thats all fine. I just know personally If I was doing runs I would like the majority of them to be view-able with as much detail as the community wants in a single place if possible, but that's just me I cannot advocate for a community I do not know well. But based on what I do know about the game tho most of the community runners or not do use the in-game boards but I just dislike that there is no video connection to them outside of that unless they upload a video of the run to youtube, but then how do they tie it here if they cannot submit that particular run should they choose? Honestly it just makes the boards look less active then they actually are I know for Any% that there are loads of people doing runs but I do get the possible reasons for not.
If you still have a run pending contact @ErictheRedMage through his twitter he has been active in the last week, and I have contacted them through Twitter before and checks their socials more frequently.
"I'm pretty sure it's important for everyone that your run appears on the site's main page. Especially if you are "small unknown speedrunner", because more people can check your run and maybe follow your channel, etc."
I personally do not care about my own runs appearing on the main page most of us don't look at it much, It does serve a purpose to allow others possibly non speedrunners that may be interested in particular games to see what people have recently been running. But most will just seek out the actual games they are interested in. I normally submit my runs days some times weeks later when I have the time to do so but I still set the dates according to when I had run/uploaded them originally. If exposure is what you seek the most then I don't think speedrunning is something to get into instead just play games you want to play casually for that exposure and eventually it may pay off, like wise to speedrunning but its not gonna be exposure in the form you may be thinking of.
"But seems like it always takes 1 billion of million years for moderators to move their asses and verify your run. So there is almost no chance to appear on the main page."
I generally check the site several times a week some weeks its almost daily, but not everyone can be attached to a computer to verify runs the moment they are submitted. Having less or more mods on a game does not mean it will be verified quicker it depends on a number of factors with include the rules/guidelines that the community uses and the length of the run on top of having the time outside of the site that are more important or that pay for their ability to live or even verify runs in the first place.
"HOWEVER, when moderators submits their runs they just make them auto-verified. So their runs always appears on the main page. That's so freakin unfair."
I take a strong stance on not self-verifying runs on boards I moderate and many will tell you the same that may or may not be from the same boards I have moderated on. The exception is normally with smaller communities that may have fewer to no other mods to also verify runs. I would still give those people that trust that they follow the same stipulations that anyone in the community would. I can only testify for myself on that matter, If you have outstanding issues with the moderators of the board then make a post on the games forum section and discuss it with them in a reasonable manner, if that does not work within a few weeks or so and you still have pending runs then you can request moderation changes as a last resort. https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7
"It's pretty obvious that runs should appear on the main page by the verification time, not by submission time. (like TASvideos site does)"
Sure runs could be filtered on a user level to be by verification time, but allot of us choose to have the front page if at all sort to displaying on games we are interested in anyways so that would not benefit a large amount of people. The only people that would benefit is the the runner whos run appears on the front page and the guest user that may see it but may or may not be interested anyways. Ultimately it is up to the people in charge of the site to decide what functions or filters to have for us all, and for the large majority we are very comfortable with things as they are in how the front page operates most people will find your stream etc, through the specific games they are interested in by following them and seeing when you are streaming it in the appropriate games stream list which playing it.
Hopefully you can reasonably get your current problem resolved but please do be respectful, as it tends to go along way when wanting a positive result in the end.
Over the years I think you've done an outstanding job and keeping up with it as such putting in the hours helping to keep things running while not many notice. Been very nice to been able to interact with you here and there you are very nice and social-able person. Good luck with everything you plan to do and at some point share with us. I'm sure we all like you said will be interested in what that may be when you got something to show us. =D
Gyoo It's been warming to have you around doing what you have been over the years. You will be missed by allot of the people who also have seen the hours put in by yourself and the others that keep the site going so its understandable to want to move on at some point to other things. Best of luck with your projects and hope to still see you around the site or other places. ;D
Submissions are still open but will be closing in in next few weeks. So if you have not submitted yet do so soon. I'll be getting the confirmation form ready with the current games list soon.
I don't see any reason why they cannot also be here if people want them tied with their SRC account as well. Also its fairly common to cheat in game leader-boards at least casuals do allot for whatever their reasons are, I could be wrong specifically towards how Necrodancer handles them but my original statement still stands. If community wants something enough to be listed or added within reason as per normal.
So I've said in the past I am going to be updating the leader boards to look better navigation wise and allow us to see more when browsing submitted runs. IL board setup normally makes sense for allot of games like Killing Floor but the overall look currently with how they are used and implemented is a tad ugly in terms of viewing and navigating, the problem with changing from IL would be that the navigation bar will have more variables listed and can and may look a bit cluttered when viewing all the levels as an example so a few things I am looking at doing to minimize that clutter while still allowing us to easily navigate would be to set levels as Misc by default and require us to hit the show all tab that would appear to show all or to hide them again. I would like some feed back before I would go ahead with these changes, if we do not like this idea or it does not turn out that well before I would be moving runs over then we can always just reformat IL's to look a tad cleaner and continue on as normal. Would very much appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.
With the upcoming changes I will be pushing in hopes to make the boards look nicer and only using IL for other categories where its more suitable like Collectible runs. On to the actual topic though, I am looking for feedback on the thought of adding Onslaught as a new category were the goal is simple to survive as many waves as possible. I would like to test this category idea out before we make an official thing provided we can agree on some baselines for runs. Some of the criteria i had in mind was to add a variable specific to that category in which hopefully we can track the highest achieved wave and of course the fastest to said wave. For those that are not that familiar with the game mode, its a endless game mode where every 5 waves is a Boss and for each 5 waves after the boss it ramps the difficulty up and throws in objectives and modifiers in the mix which are randomized to an extent. Some of the things that of course will not be allowed in these runs if we would like to see them added would be following the current rules we already have that would apply. Another thing I am going to touch up is the overall clarification on the existing rules and also noting that skipping trade is allowed in runs as its now a incorporated feature and should be taken advantage of where runners see fit to reduce the down time between waves as it does add to the overall IGT. Let me know what your thoughts on this inclusion to be tested in the upcoming changes to the boards.
Submissions are still open till mid April. I will be putting up the confirmation form for runners in the coming weeks once I get most of the games list going. The marathon will take place May 4th weekend online and be streamed on the Nasa Marathon channel.
Yeah Ren at the end lately been killing my pbs when I'm 5mins ahead so been rough. But gratz on your runs.
So yes while u can cancel the animation while swapping weapons you still expend the next clips and needs to reload again when u switch back. The reason I don't do it is because it's faster to start it and time it to cancel into a run and always be moving if you don't need to run and need to swap to make a kill that's something that can be done. It's nothing crazy but useful. It's a similar trick used in many games when swaping while the reload is started but it won't actually cancel the reload but move the animation window. Does not work on low fire weapons or single clip weapons. But canceling to a sprint from a roll once you reload cancels the strafe which is why it's more important for movement. Strafing is slower while continously firing in most cases.
