"Reasons as to why nsmbudx does not have a proper category extension leaderboard or misc categories:
- Speedrun.com is limited when it comes to creating leaderboards, the current main board is already very unstable and all over the place.
- Other categories such as All Castles and 100% barely even get runs themselves.
- Due to the fact that we combined the nsmbudx and nsludx leaderboard into one, we can’t have any misc categories or a misc category tab on the leaderboard.
- Adding in a category that is specific to one character and one game would ruin the whole flow of the leaderboard and require high amounts of work to return to normal.
This isn’t a reason for you not to run a category that you came up with, it’s just the reasoning as to why I haven’t added any categories or created a proper category extensions leaderboard."
This is what Lachurs posted in the discord about why there isnt a CE board. While the message is 4 years old, these are still problems that the site/leaderboard has today.
I am very excited to announce the 2024 NSMBW Any% Tournament! We will once again be working with SpeedGaming to have our matches restreamed.
Similar to previous tournaments, you will need to be able to stream to twitch in a watchable quality and have a pb submitted on speedrun.com in order to join. It is also highly recommended you create a challonge.com account to be able to self-report your match scores if the staff are unable to.
If we need an extra person or two to fill out the bracket, we may consider allowing Virtual Console for runners who do not have access to a physical copy to join with a time penalty to account for faster loading times.
Signups will close on May 17th at 11:59pm CST.
If there are any questions, reach out to myself or another member of the tournament server staff. The tournament server can be found here: https://discord.gg/pWv95JQ9NW
Here is the signup sheet: https://forms.gle/tjH13BTcBrrVaA966
The game rules page: "All emulator runs must be done on DeSmuME version 0.9.11 or newer, or melonDS 0.9.5. When submitting a run done on emulator make sure you select the “Emulator” sub-category and set the platform to “Nintendo DS” with the emulator box checked. Since different emulator versions have different loading times, please include your emulator's version in either the video of your run (recommended) or in the description of your run. Not providing the emulator version may lead to the maximum loading time being added to your run."
ILs for the 3DS version are tracked on Cyberscore: https://cyberscore.me.uk/game/1279
I’m pretty sure a good chunk of the community agrees that emulator should not be allowed in any form on the main board. Even if that weren’t the case, I highly doubt it would actually get added as a category/subcategory due to the lack of interest. While I do think the emulator leaderboard would get more submissions than the VC leaderboard, I don’t think it would get enough to warrant a spot on the main board. (Especially since the idea of removing the VC board has been brought up before).
“All official release runs must be done on either a cartridge of New Super Mario Bros. or on the WiiU Virtual Console (WiiUVC) release. Playing off of flash cartridges (such as an R4 cartridge) or on DSi/3DS Homebrew is not allowed for runs due to loading time inconsistencies.”
“All emulator runs must be done on DeSmuME version 0.9.11 or newer.”
All runs need to be done on an official version of the game
You probably shouldn’t be going for burner clip with a 29. There are 2 easier options depending on which route you do.
With gold flower route you can grab the gold block and use that to tank the burner damage and not lose your leaf.
With leaf route you can have a second leaf in your reserve and damage boost. You can equip the reserve leave before dropping down to the next section.
Not sure of a good demonstration of the gold block method but I think Greenalink’s run does the damage boost strat.
Pretty sure all languages of this game are the same exact speed because there isn't any text scrolling. If there was a difference I believe the only way to get a different language is to buy a cartridge from a different region.
The discord link on this page will take you to the server for this game
This site has maps of each level. The only way to get pictures off a gamepad would be to take a picture of the screen with a camera. https://www.mariouniverse.com/maps-ds-nsmb/
As far as I know there's no site that will pay for a guide. Speedrunning as a whole isn't really something people earn money on.
just because one game has a certain category doesnt mean that another should as well, especially when the games are so different.
The flying Boom Boom is in 6-T2 not 6-T
If he does that you don't want to run directly into him lol. I made a diagram that might help visualize what you need to do: https://imgur.com/a/A7OJ4bi
RTA stands for Real Time Attack, meaning the timer has to keep running through the entire run. As long as the video shows the entire run, it can be retimed properly.
For future attempts if you want to avoid running into him, you can start your run while he's on the top-left square as that will guarantee you can avoid him (see a no world 5 or a cannonless run as an example)
While 5-4 skip is possible in low% its quite a stretch to call it a new timesave. The precision of the trick makes it absurdly difficult. Its unrealistic that it will be pulled off by a human anytime soon in a single attempt, let alone in a full game run.
Bit of a late response but loading times are only removed for any% runs that are under 25 minutes. Up to that point they would still give a massive advantage. There's also the fact that they are not official releases of the game.
Firstly, you can't even come CLOSE to manipulating RNG in this game RTA.
Secondly, even if you would die at the beginning of 3-1 to have the ice bros move out of the way, it's still a 50/50 which direction they move. Not to mention that the death would probably waste more than it would save.
This has been suggested and rejected already due to there not being enough interest and that it is too similar to all castles.
Following the format of warpless from every other NSMB game, a "warp" would only be considered something that takes you from one world to another. World 4 (I believe) in NSMB2 is a perfect example of this.
Comparing this to coinless is not a fair comparison. Coinless is a part of the leaderboard to give recognition to the players who have put in many hours to complete the absurdly difficult challenge while also attempting to be fast. This is a category that almost anyone could complete with minimal preparation. If this category has little to no interest, there's no point in having an almost empty leaderboard for it.
You also don't need an official category here to run it and can use a Google Sheet to keep track of times.
