Nope. No current runs take advantage of this, and it's unlikely to save time at any point except for the second stage of a part 1 run with the current strats.
Take a look at the videos up in part 2 for a better idea why, but essentially:
Part 2 requires you to come up and visit your undead grandfather with the magic helmet after killing Surtur. That assumes two things, you need to know stair locations, and they need to be fairly close together for a good run. The current strats that @SilentSigil and I run with make use of map level scrolls to save scum this info and reroll floors when needed.
Trap doors aren't garunteed from the wand, and they aren't sold. The enemies with the best chance to drop these wands are probably wizards, giants, and undead, all of which are not easy kills, and aren't very common in part 1 until the final levels of dungeon 2.
Please feel free to give it a try though! I'd love to be wrong.
FYI, the theoretical limit of Part 2 runs with the new strats is likely around 10 minutes, and 20 or so for Part 1 + 2, so there's a lot if time left to save either way.
Pssh, 10 to 30 frames is frame perfect! It's perfect for those 10 to 30 frames! =P
Just something to keep in mind if you aren't currently. It's pretty important to play on the type of screen the game was meant to be played on.
I used to think a lot of NES, SNES, and even PS1 era tricks were impossible until I ditched the crappy LCDs I used to play on in favor of a small CRT.
It's not impossible to learn tricks on a display with input lag, but it's certainly a lot harder.
WHY DID HAT GOGGLES NEVER CATCH ON?! Weirdly enough I sing this at Karaoke on a near weekly basis...
Hi there! Good luck with the runs!
We might eventually need a milliseconds count too on that one. >_<
Google is your friend. Figure it out! I believe in you.
It's not emulation, but you might want to ask on the game's forum just to be sure. Most games do allow flash carts though, so I don't see why not.
Also, your English is great my friend! Good luck on your runs!
There could be. But you still have to show a majority of the game in YOUR run. Thems the rules my friend.
Why not just limit it to only the levels in the original release? That's a decent cutoff that the mods are more likely to accept.
I know, I was doing a bit of trolling myself there. =P
Aww darn, I think I mighta hurt their feelings. Do hope they actually try a run though. It's fun, and we're friendly to non-jerkholes.
So long and thanks for all the Trolls! FINGER GUNS THREE ELABORATE FULL-BODY WINKS A LITTLE JIG JAZZ HANDS
Well if that's the case, @UNICOY, you might have to get @Epica here to present this, as usually it's the person who has the runs pending that needs to post here.
@UNICOY There are plenty of speed games rely on manipulating the IGT, and plenty of speed games that are platform agnostic (fastest run wins, regardless of platform disadvantage). There's also so few runners on that game. I really don't think anyone is intentionally ignoring you guys, just that no one cares enough to change the whole system for a single runner on what's essentially a dead board.
Have you guys tried to reach out to the mod directly on twitch or twitter to see about the run verification? @TheKombatKing manages the entire series so it's very possible he hasn't seen the notifications. The mods here usually make you do that before taking any action.
Also, just keep at it. And if the brightness hurts your eyes (CRTs can emit a lot of light), don't be afraid to turn the brightness down.
FYI, the SCPH-79001 with fast loading is likely the fastest possible PS2 for PS1, but any PS2 is faster than PS3.
I own most of the official Konami x Mondo releases of Castlevania on Vinyl (and yes I know how rediculous that is from an audiophile's standpoint), so I guess Castlevania is my favorite.
I really just came here to agree with you that Xenogears has an amazing soundtrack though.
Just some more DOS / Windows diffs:
Most of the useful shortcuts can be used on DOS as well actually, just replace Ctrl with Alt.
The Windows version also has a lazier map generator, there's only two patterns it uses per load up, and the water placement can be a little less creative. Click new city long enough and you can get nearly the same map with minor differences in water and elevation placement.
DOS can glitch out though, and create holes where there should be water, which can be faster to level due to loading times, whereas water is generally faster to level in Windows.
As for roads, it looks like road pathing does cause a little bit of interface lag on DOS for longer roads that zigzag or go up steep hills. Not much, but it could start to add up if you're not careful.
And Thanks!
