That could lead to similar problems. It really doesn't have a simple solution.

The game has an active mod. A very impatient new runner didn't care and submitted a request regardless. In the case of Rondo, despite both the mods being inactive on SRC, they're active on social media. Both mods shouldn't just be nuked cause someone submitted a request. The OG mod request thread, as messy as it was, really was the best solution for this stuff.

The issue has been resolved. It was just a request for mod, and apparently policy is to remove inactive mods if a request is made. Kind of weird, as it could leave boards in limbo just because someone stepped away for 3 months.
At very least I think random users (not mods) chiming in to remove inactive mods is extremely dumb.
I very much agree. Reminds me of when NES leaderboards had stock rules put in place by a content mod(s) without permission of leaderboard mods.

Right. I'm not worried about them being removed, but rather the process.

Yeah my guess is it's some content mod fuckery. At least I'd hope that no part of elo's new system would nuke mods from leaderboards lmao.

The current mod is busy at the moment, so we gotta wait to see the audit log, but she says that it wasn't her doing. Also like I said those two users (as far as we can tell) were not removed from any other game(s). I'm mainly posting to see if anyone else has had this problem. Cause we know site staff isn't going to chime in lmao.

Moderators @rollbuster and @Skavenger216 were removed from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood ( https://www.speedrun.com/rondo ) without notice. The current mod knows nothing about it. Is there a rule I missed about inactivity on the site/leaderboard? Cause these users weren't removed from other games.

Not sure what there is to evaluate really, but I'll just run FC in the future if I decide to come back to the game regardless so it doesn't matter much to me I guess.

A time save is a time save, big or small. FC offers the same benefits to all categories, regardless of actual time impact. I can't see any reason it would only be allowed for a single category. Any argument made against low%/whip only can be made against Any%, which is why it doesn't make any sense. In fact the argument against low%/whip only was used against Any% before when I was trying to get it unbanned. Still confused as to what changed between then and now.

I'm aware. I've been arguing for awhile now that FC should be unbanned. You've listed the arguments against it being unbanned. So what changed? If the argument is that FC speeds up heart countdown, thus "reducing the challenge", that should apply to every category. The benefit of FC's faster heart countdown doesn't disappear in Any%, so why only unban it for Any%?

Oh I've only just realized this unban is for Any% only. Yeah that doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

^ That's actually my issue with DMs becoming available on SRC, but I know people will just use Discord anyways. I've had far too many conversations forced on me in private that would likely get those people removed as mod themselves if it was made public. There's a reason I don't mod anything anymore and it's because I don't want to be associated with such behavior myself.

I'm not sure the problem has a solution though. Voting moderators on and off doesn't just have potential for abuse, it would be abused to the fullest extent. People would find ways to trick the system day one. The first thing that comes to mind are leaderboards that "auto verify" runs without proof that are slower than X time. If a requirement to be a part of the "community" is to just have a run, then you could probably bot up a ton of runs and vote moderators out lmao.

Another issue with the "community holds all the cards" idea is I have had, on two separate leaderboards, popular and unpopular, one person make two accounts. They proceed to submit a run on each account, and quickly slide into the forums to demand changes. They quickly try to play the "community" angle because "lol two runners vs. one mod, mob rules homie". It was easy enough to spot it as it was happening, but having happened on a popular and unpopular leaderboard I imagine it's a trick people try often.

Moderation ain't simple, at least it shouldn't be. I think there should be people running a leaderboard that know how and when to make the right decision. Otherwise to leave it all up to the "community" means running a site like pbtracker. Extreme example maybe, but what's the point of moderation if the moderator is unable to make decisions? Moderators should be replaced with a switch at that point.
