Another option is you can do an early combo with Dylan in the second room (first one with dino's). I do have a video demonstrating it if you want to see it in action. I would replace Regina's combo as its the harder of the two META rooms that you farm in. There is some downsides with it. It is about 2ish seconds slower if done optimally. The other downside is it uses more shotgun ammo which can get a little tight once you arrive at Paula's section. If you are just starting out and want to do it I would recommend buying some shotgun ammo when you buy the chainmine after the underwater section just to be safe. I would also recommend still attempting Regina's combo just for the practice cause long term you will want to get the hang of it since it is the fastest room to get a combo in.

As someone who has no skin in the game for Resident Evil 2 but has experience moderating a game that utilizes Duckstation for emulator runs I am quite baffled by the inexperienced you guys have shown to have with Duckstation. Once you have Duckstation setup properly it is basically impossible to change a setting without having a visual queue stating something has been changed.

The run 2KLS1 posted has none of the information shown that would help with your verification process and knowing whether the run meets the standard required for it to be accepted. In the Graphics -> OSD setting within Duckstation if you check “Show OSD Messages, Show Emulation Speed, Show Controller Input, Show Status Indicators, Show FPS, and Show Settings” the second anything is changed (with the one exception being Async readahead) the screen will update to the new information as soon as it has changed, also with having an input viewer for verification purposes if you so choose. At the end of the run you can even require showing settings and verifying they match what is on the screen.

I don’t think Duckstation should be scapegoated when it is clear you should put more work into understanding the software you want to use for your leaderboards instead of saying “We’ve tried nothing man and we are all out of ideas.” If you really want I could even make a demonstration video if you would want showing how it all works.

I think the better argument to lean into is why the Gamecube version would be the better choice instead of having two seperate emulator categories. I'm not super well versed on the RE2 versions but to my understanding they are both quite similar with the only thing the GC version is missing is quick menu's (again I could be wrong) while having a cutscene skip and door skip mod (which from the outside looks like a no brainer to want to run over a ps1 emulated version).

The only way I personally have seen the game beat around 23 minutes is through usage of Cheat Engine to start with all the items. As far as I am aware there is no glitch documented allowing to get/skip the gas mask to get to the end of the game.

Hey Ricky,

Unfortunately I wasn’t running around the time he was running. However I have watched his Dino Crisis 1 and Dino Crisis 2 runs (albeit it’s been a while since watching Dino Crisis 1.) There is this thread with evidence of splicing in Resident Evil 2. I have been told there are other games that have been spliced however I have never really found any evidence to support the claims but I never spent a lot of time looking.

For Dino Crisis 2 I am quite skeptical of the time he achieved (53:30) however I have never spent a lot of time digging for evidence. I have spent a decent amount of time (500~ hours) running the game but most of that has been on PC with a small amount of time running the console version. I do think the time is plausible however I have never been convinced due to the quality of the run. There are a lot of small things that are very peculiar, be it lines or choices of strats. Example, when putting in the Elevator Code, the first code he tries doesn’t even exist in the game. Any other runner would just spam 0 after inputting the code incorrectly to try an actual code (The code he uses is 0324, the only other code that starts with a 0 is 0153.) I have ran it quite a bit on the legacy emulator we use (psxjin) which appears to be very similar speed as a PS2 w/ fast disc and my PB for that is only 53:40 and it’s a pretty solid run and imo a better run (The run is pretty old so I could be misremembering it) Again, I don’t want to say I'm 100% positive that the run was cheated, but for the time he got it is very suspect due to the performance in the run. If you want more examples I can be happy to provide them.

For Dino Crisis 1 I would have to probably watch it again to give a fair opinion but the time in the run is at least super achievable (with what we know now I think someone could get a 1:13 with enough grinding) I do remember the quality of the footage being pretty bad at times, which could leave room for manipulation. I would say of any runs of his this one could have a decent chance of being legit but would probably want to spend some time watching it to make a fair opinion. I am unsure if any of the top runners for DC1 have any experience with Lucianos run.

If you do have any other questions feel free to let me know.

Cheers,

There is no difference between console and emulator. Load times do not affect IGT at all since IGT pauses on screen transitions and door animations. Really there is no need to separate it further than it already is (at one point every platform was combined.) I would argue if we were to do anything it would be to recombine all the boards back into one, however personally I think how the board is set up now is the best.

Do you have the ASL selected for the autosplitter?

Edit Layout> Scriptable Auto Splitter>Click on the asl file

After you have it selected you should be able to click the options to have it do start, split and rest.

GG, didn't even notice you got a PB in this.

In terms of verifying runs and an even playing field Duckstation is a super good option. You can have it display any modifications you have enabled as well as game speed and disc speed which makes having everyone on the same settings quite easy and quick to verify. It is also very straightforward to set up and quite stable the entire time I have been using it.

For speed we don't actually need to keep Paula at 100% HP (I'm pretty sure her walking speed doesn't actually change related to HP.) The current strategy of running to the end and just start blasting is the fastest just due to the lack of Oviraptor spawns. For every spawn it makes Paula stand still in fear.

With good shot placement and a bit of luck you can just get two Oviraptors to spawn during Paula 1, and in Paula 2 once you get to the end and kill the two Oviraptors no more will spawn 99% of the time (sometimes you can get super unlucky and a third one will but that doesn't tend to happen too often in my experience.) I don't have a lot of experience with Hard mode but I don't think Paula takes extra damage so it isn't necessary to play it safe.

If you are having issues with successfully doing Paula there is a couple of options that can make it a lot safer with only a small loss of time. The first being the use of the ATR to one shot the Oviraptors, you mainly lose time just from the menuing and buying the ATR. The other option is during about the middle of each section you can turn around and blast the Ovis with the shotgun.

As long as you only take two hits during Paula 1 you should be free to just run to the end of Paula 2 and start blasting. It might get a little close with her Health, but its actually very consistent and if she dies its usually from poor lines or missing the trigger for the ladder.
