@Setoalexander Fire that you're still here ahaha! I did this short lil' speedrun to showcase the new glitch that could revolutionize some missions
As for specific timesaves / route deviations I did from the previous run
- I implemented some faster menu-ing tricks to save time from having to move the cursor a lot. Such as pressing ENTER when the loading screen is complete to immediately get into action, or pressing ESC / TAB to exit the map when you are ready to enter a new mission
- If you are really lucky with the grenades, you don't need to use the KillZombie redeem code to get an extra 10 grenades
- I switched around the order of when I get Dirty Job. Though in hindsight, the previous placement was like a bit faster, so I really shouldn't have done that
As for the changes I made with the Zombie Multiplication glitch
- Fix the Fence in the Shooting Range - I multiplied the zombies by two (which is TAB, ENTER, TAB, ENTER) so that eight zombies would spawn on the barrel at the right. This allows me to just explode the barrel and have the first objective end pretty much immediately
- Transfer of the radioactive waste - I multiplied the zombies by two so that 12 zombies would spawn close to one another, which I could then explode with a barrel, and shoot out the rest if the objective was not already completed
- Old Supplies - I multiplied the zombies by two so that I could just kill the outside zombies to quickly complete the first objective
- Old House Treasure - I multiplied the zombies by two so that I could just throw a grenade at the house to instantly complete the first objective (I feel this throw in particular to be a bit sketchy). I did have to throw an extra few grenades to clear out the remaining zombies after the keycard cutscene cause I found that the zombies can still kill you during the cutscene
Another thing I wanna mention is that this glitch also messes up the loading screens. So I probably have to find an alternative way to retime runs. For this run, I just timed it for when all loading bars are full, instead of when the start button is shown
(also heads up that I may update the rules for this category in case you wanna run it again)
Seeing a 25 second full cycle speedrun was certainly something! I love how the Google play loading took up more time than the actual speedrun itself
Woohoo my extremely crappy low res run I did 50 centuries ago is finally verified! I am pretty surprised that this is the current WR considering the amount of obvious mistakes I have made
That being said. I would love to try and best this run someday. I got a few ideas for optimizing this, such as using the gasoline to burn the crates for scrap
I regained my love for running Walking Zombie 2 again. This time, trying for a more smaller run instead of an 8 hour slogfest known as Full Game Any%. Just today, I achieved this Woodstown Any% run in around 26 minutes (without load times). This beats the current WR by about 4 minutes (though the WR has not had its load times removed)
The reason this is unverifiable is because of lag frames during loading times which made precise retiming impossible. My method of retiming returns a time of 26:52. But it could be either 1 second faster, or 30 seconds slower. I know I am the only moderator in this community, and I could just submit it as is. But I definitely think this run shouldn't be submitted, so I won't be submitting it to the leaderboards. But it still took me 2 and a half hours to achieve. So I will at least create a thread showcasing my unverifiable rejected run.
Description
Yep. Another run by yours truly! Aside from skill and luck improvements, I have been developing a new route after becoming more knowledgeable about the game from the amount of testing I have done. Here are some highlights
- I have opted to use the rifle instead of the machine gun for a more aggressive and riskier early game. As it can one-shot zombies when hit in the head
- I learned that you can press ENTER once the loading screen has finished instead of moving your mouse to the Continue button. It saves a few miliseconds everytime it's done, but that adds up considering the amount of loading screens the game has. Here, it saved around ~2 minutes throughout the entire run
- I got lucky getting a StHg 24 Grenade before Clearing the Destroyed Factory. This skips a short tutorial!
- After Old House Treasure is basically the second half of the run. I found out that an upgraded Sten 2000 can actually deal with zombies really effectively! And because of how cheap the weapon is, I can easily buy + upgrade, and even buy some extra stuff with my leftover cash! Of course, I had to horde a lot of weapons to get enough money
- I also wanna mention that I used Zombero to get Gold Coins. Because I found that the Sten 2000 isn't always guaranteed. I got it first try, but I had runs where the Sten 2000 wasn't in the shop. So I had to reroll to find it again. I even had runs where I couldn't get it even with Zombero. So I guess this introduces RNG into the run :(
- Since a lot of missions involves running around to a specific point. I learned to abuse Energy Drinks more frequently. I got lucky in this run by getting random Energy Drink drops from zombies, and also using my leftover money to buy more of them. This is just enough to cover the second half of the run
- I found that I have been getting a lot more grenades than I realized. So I ended up being more aggressive with them throughout the run. Both early and late stages of the run!
Some other notes
- You can also get lucky by getting Energy Drinks before Old House Treasure. Since a lot of the early missions require walking, this would save a lot of time. I got a run that was like this, but died in the latter half off the run
- I had a run that was very similar to this one. It was about to be a 29:00 run with load times. But I ran out of grenades and lost to the final zombie horde at the end, thinking I could tank the damage. My heart sank, but I continued on regardless. And I managed to get an even better run with a grenade this time!
@WiRaR Yeah smart glitch management is the right answer, I just didn't have those words in my mind when I made that comment.
Admittedly enough. I haven't actually visited the speedrun community for a while, so seeing all these new glitches is like being exposed to a whole new world. Stuff like the prop fly and the crafting glitch just blows my mind completely
I would also love to see what a TAS for this category would look like. With stuff like extreme RNG for the plastic trash and the safe unlocking, and the insane menu navigation and movement
And also what happened to glitchless category? I had my run stay there for like 2 months now without any update (though it's probably gonna be rejected cause of new rules regarding onscreen timers)
Fuck. This is easily one of the coolest VOTV speedruns I have ever seen. The prop flying, the safe moving, the ability to craft however much you want? All of this creates an amazing showcase of skill and knowledge of the game!
The fact that there are many different version categories in Tutorial speedruns when changes between them are very minimal is kind of strange. I think 8.0, 8.1, and 8.2 should be combined since they don't really have much of a difference. And the specific version as an annotation like in the image shown below
@WiRaR In order of how much I want to see them in the leaderboards. 2, 1, 3
Burger% is my personal pick for me. Mainly because of the achievement + the large amount you have to find. I would love to see how some people would tackle some of these burgers. Like the one on the top of the Radome on the base
Tile% will be interesting mainly for that one specific tile placed at the corner of the world border
Skull% just seems like a generic collect-a-thon for me
Found a somewhat consistent setup for getting all the Ball Joints! This can be used for Omega Kerfur%!
Steps
- Do pos.target -529.7:-462.4 to find the first chest. Make sure you are right below so that the next steps will be as precise as possible
- Look directly at the corner of the base of the sattelite and move 7 steps. Dig somewhere forward on the steep slope
- Look directly at the opening on the leaves of the tree then move 6 steps. Dig down
- (Hardest and least consistent) At the opening between two trees, Look straight at the left one and move 12 steps. Dig down
Yup, that's fast as hell. Good find!
I find that you can drop it next to the door at a precise angle and have it destroy the door all by itself. But the suitcase flung across the map once the door broke. This is definitely something that would need more research! https://streamable.com/160rlk
@WiRaR Yeah that's perfectly reasonable. Maybe in a future update we would get something to make it more faster? As of right now, this game just isn't built for a full any% completion like this. Though I really do like the concept a lot, I would totally keep it and rework it into a more bearable category. (Though I am unsure as to what category it should be replaced with. Maybe Week% where you survive an entire week?)
@WiRaR for your Doctor Kel% question. I can totally understand and see the reasoning for both options. My problem is that a Doctor Kel run would probably be really boring. Once you get an Omega Kerfur, the run would devolved to quickly finding a signal, climbing as much as possible and then sleeping
Damn it, this is awesome as hell. I showcased a streamer one of your glitched runs before you made this. She would've def freaked out if she saw the new tech here
I wondered how you did that pipe climb in Level 3. That in particular looks really interesting.
