Dara, if the version is different then I will just have to BabyRage . Wolf did a test play through of the EA version and he said it's slower. I don't doubt him.

keny, the reasoning behind my comments is because I own several physical copies of this game. You as well own a copy RE3. Why should we have to worry about buying the game again in a different language? The content is all the same. It may not fully be justified but when most of the leaderboard does not own a physical copy of the Mediakite version let alone a copy of any RE3, it's just very hypocritical.

Thank you so very much, keny. I appreciate that you would go out of your way to obtain the Ubisoft version.

I expect the copy to be identical to the Ubisoft version we are running. Hopefully this will put an end to this topic.

The Ubi Soft version is listed on Amazon with an ISBN number. I'd happily buy it but it's out of stock. I also don't have enough leave from work to fly to China to search for the physical copy. Running the EA version is moot since it is slower than the Ubi Soft version. Also, adding another board doesn't make any sense as we already have the option to sort by region.

It may seem insensitive, but I'm sorry that Japanese runners are unable to run the Chinese version. While it is very difficult to find this version of the game, that doesn't mean that we should totally invalidate it. Why can't I run the Chinese version and let the Japanese runners run their respective version? It's like subjecting all runners around the world to play on PAL.

We already know what times the Japanese version is capable of. Even if there is a faster Chinese version run, it doesn't discredit the runs from the Japanese version. Hell, even though Wusscake beat my time using the Chinese version, I still know my run on the Japanese version is just as impressive.

I just wanna go fast. Let me go fast, Dara.

The logic that is presented right now is that because I don't own a physical copy of the game I shouldn't run it. Do you guys honestly think that the Ubi Soft version isn't a legit version. This is turning into a "I want to be right even though I don't run this game"

I think we need to just look at the root of why this is even a topic of discussion in the first place: The RE3 Ubi Soft version should not be allowed because it is not "legitimate" and it would be uneven grounds for runners not using this version because it is inaccessible(?).

Are we not the rule makers for this leaderboard? It's not like the Mediakite version was any easier to come by. Just because one dude bought it on Amazon doesn't really mean shit. We can make the Ubi Soft version available to those who would like to speedrun it. It's that simple.

Whatever the outcome, I'm gonna keep running the game regardless.

Dara, please read through the thread and tell me what more evidence is needed? Shall we await the email from Capcom Asia? It honestly seems like I'm the only one besides Enetirnel and faiarrow that's providing anything worth a damn.

Thanks again to Enetirnel and faiarrow for their efforts and contributions regarding this topic.

The Chinese/Taiwan with the Ubi Soft splash screen is legit.

Wolf is testing the EA distribution now. It seems to not run as smooth as the Ubi Soft version. It looks to behave similar to the Mediakite version with input lag but only a tad bit faster because of text.

The only thing left now is what to do with the runs on the board that were ran with the pirated Chinese version. I wouldn't be so quick to discredit them it seems to run quite similar to the Ubi Soft version. I think the only difference aside from the splash screens is that the pirated copy has low res backgrounds for some rooms.

The one with the splash screens I posted is. The version that has been floating around with the bloody UBCS splash screen seems to be a pirated version of the one previously mentioned. All runners should switch over to the Ubi Soft one if they were running the pirated one.

Thank you Enetirnel again for taking the time to post your findings. It will greatly benefit this community - maybe we can end this trivial argument now.

The version that I have with the Ubi Soft splash screen (the one every runner should be using) does not have messed up textures. The only anomaly is the movable objects in-game appear transparent. Although, this could have been intended.

I know it can be a sensitive topic to discuss on the boards but if anyone is trying to find a copy of this version of the game so that they can speedrun it, please join the RE Speedrunning Community Discord. https://discord.gg/znJq4

I'm not saying that the EA version is proof of the Dysin Interactive Corp. version being legitimate. @faiarrow brought the other Taiwan version to my attention. I just thought it was interesting that there -possibly- could be an even better copy of the game.

Trance, this is turning into an attack on me specifically. Get a life, man. There's more out there than just how fast you can beat Sniper Elite.

Trance you go on and on about the click bait shit when you literally copied the same thumbnail of my video and just pasted it onto your video and then proceed to use a click bait photo on nearly every one of your speedrun videos after... bawkCorn

If the Chinese version is indeed rejected that just means that I have the WR dudsLmao

I'm still going to speedrun the "China" version of the game no matter what happens. Going back to the Japanese version seems like a step backwards.

I'm posting the original splash screens so we can find out more about this release. After some quick research [intense googling], Dysin Interactive Corp., appears to have ported other Campcom titles as well. Maybe SuperGamer57 can shed more light on this as he is the one that was able to obtain it first it seems.

@faiarrow on Twitter has also brought to my attention that EA has released a Taiwan port of which they own a physical copy of.

P. S. The BabyRage's are here because this topic of discussion seems so trivial. "Let's run the shitty version of some arbitrary game released decades ago because the developer won't email me back." bawkCorn

I know many of you are very passionate about this. I am, too. I wouldn't be playing this game for hours on end hoping that the RNG gave me a different weapon in the RPD locker. But at the end of the day, it's a fucking game boys. BabyRage

Here are the splash screens for the version of the game that I have if it helps any. The version that some people have does indeed seem to be some a hacked copy of some sort evident by the trainer included with it.

Also, Bobochet had an interesting suggestion: separate boards

It's just going in circles, to be honest. I can bet that most (if not all) obtained the "Mediakite" version the same way. I'm not endorsing this (I own three physical copies of RE3, any who). It's just another point to bring up.

BabyRage

California, USADudley8 years ago

FurryWulfz, you bring up a great point about the version of the game being unobtainable. This is something that I had not considered upon writing my post. However, my vote still stands.

California, USADudley8 years ago

This thread is a huge circle jerk. None of you even actively run RE3 PC with the exception of keny, Roxy, and HatsKuSakura - please correct me if I'm wrong. Why should THE RUNNERS of the game be subject to this arbitrary ruling? This would totally invalidate the the amazing runs achieved by Wusscake, WolfDNC, and Magn00zl, among others.

Hands down, the "China" PC version of Resident Evil 3 is the smoothest running copy of the game. There isn't any menu delay compared to it's inferior Japanese version.

I vote -YES- it should be allowed. evoChina CHINA #1 evoChina
