It's not the Director's Cut? That's surprising. I was waiting to play it until it gets patched. Lots of audio issues reported. Hopefully it doesn't crash all the time like the PC version.
Sorry I missed this back when you posted it but I'm ok with how you ended up setting it up.
Not only am I pretty surprised by the reactions here, I had assumed that it would be a separate category which means it wouldn't even affect anyone who put time and practice into stair skating. If I'm wrong about that then I guess I'll change my vote but if we're just opening another category that's more inclusive (especially for someone who might be disabled and physically CAN'T do stair skating) then my vote is always going to be yes. I'm surprised how against this idea everyone is. Unless it affects your own preferred categories and times how could it possibly do anything other than allow more people to join in the fun hobby of speedrunning? This thread descended quite rapidly. Unbelievable.
Is the emulator version actually decent? The last time I tried to play it (about 6 months ago or so) it ran really badly. Did they improve it recently or something?
And yeah, I know it says "any glitch/skip can be used" for the new any% but since that specific glitch takes SO much time off we really need to have some separation here. The entire problem that we all thought was solved by creating a new category now seems to have reappeared.
Yeah but I thought the entire point of creating the new any% was to keep that specific glitch (which wasn't supposed to be possible anymore) on the old any%. Otherwise, it was completely pointless to separate the categories.
And if we're leaving that glitch on main leaderboard then we need to at least add a glitchless category to separate the times.
I thought the glitch wasn't possible on the newest version of the game. How did a glitch run just get world record in the NEW ANY% category? Didn't we determine that glitch was only possible on older version of the game?
Actually I had time tonight so I went ahead and did a few runs. I'll upload one tonight and submit tomorrow.
Nice! I will put Slender on my list to speedrun this week. Thanks!
If you're unable to stream to Twitch you can hook up an external hard drive to your xbox one and set your videos to save to that location. Once you do that, the Xbox will allow you to record for up to an hour instead of five minutes. Still won't let you speedrun the entire game since it's longer than an hour but you could do individual levels or desperate escape or lost in nightmares using that method.
You could also buy a capture card and just record your gameplay that way.
I added the autosplitter to the resources page along with the instructions that I could remember. Hopefully, that's everything you need. If there are more steps to it, I don't remember them.
I found what will (hopefully) be an easier out of bounds glitch with practice. I should also mention that Aaron mentioned that someone else may have discovered it so I'm not claiming I fully discovered this. I just may have found a way to do it consistently.
So, you turn off your flashlight and bring up the map and quicksave like normal. When you reach the top of the stairs, match your angle perfectly with the wall. you have to follow it PERFECTLY. If you slide even a millimeter to the right or left, it will not work. Once you're lined up, follow the stairs down. When you reach just ABOVE where you think you need to be, go ahead and turn into the darkness. Do NOT go any lower. If you continue to go lower, the environment spits you back onto the steps and it won't work.
Why does this help us? Because if you can do this consistently, we never have to worry about "falling down" again. If you glitch into the wall perfectly, James will walk as if he's walking down the stairs. You never fall, you walk down and into the darkness. I did it yesterday twice without even trying and then today I decided to practice and record my practicing. In 5 minutes, I'm pretty sure I figured out what you need to do to do it consistently. Just skip to the 5 minute mark if you don't want to watch me practice and screw up a bunch.
I didn't add it to the Guides page since I haven't consistently got it down yet but I think we can do it.
I'd be ok with that. Might be fun to do a glitchless run. I'll run it if the category gets created.
I had trouble getting it to work properly in the bug room. Not sure what I was doing wrong but when I attempted my 10 star run, the bug room was one of my "Problem" areas. Kept taking damage. Wouldn't stomp on the bugs properly. No idea what I was doing wrong. Ended up just moving forward and hoping I had enough kills (I didn't).
I forgot to add a new category for 100%. I'll add that here shortly.
Done. Category has been added and the other Any% has been updated. Let me know if you need anything else.
Someone says B on keyboard works. It's not listed on the controls page but I'll try it out for myself and see what happens.
Actually I think I just found it. I must not be able to do it because I use keyboard and mouse. I found a guide that says B or Select should do it (that's for controller). Tab I guess is supposed to work for keyboard but apparently it doesn't? I don't know. I think I'll probably have to create a separate category for it if people want to use it. I'll see if I can get it created tomorrow when I have a little more free time on my hands.
I was looking at the game just now and I'm not 100% sure what you mean by teleport. I didn't see that in any of my playthroughs and I looked through all the options and didn't see it there either. Can you explain it to me a bit or possibly link me a video so I can see what you mean?
