I'm going to give this approximately 6 more hours for anyone else to weigh in and then I'll make the change if I don't hear any objections by then.
Everyone,
The leaderboard has had a few changes made since we now have a load remover tool available. This means that we can now remove load screens using the tool and get a better idea of "in game time". Currently, the leaderboard is sorted by In Game Time with Real Time also being listed for each run.
Here's where your vote comes in: technically "in game time" versus "real time" isn't accurate. What's accurate is "Time without loads" versus "time with loads". I sorted the leaderboard that way last night but didn't like the way it looked so I switched it back to what you see now. But what you see now isn't "technically accurate".
So, I need to see votes in this thread.
Who wants "time without loads" versus "time with loads"
And who wants to see "Real time" versus "In game time"?
EDIT: I'll only vote to break a tie. Otherwise, I'm leaving it up to the community.
2 of the 3 runs I've done for the 100% category have resulted in a glitch where the homeless man does not appear. Walking to a building that has an interior and then coming back (to essentially try to make the outside area reload) doesn't seem to work. There was one report of this happening online years ago but in that case, the character model was missing but you could still interact with him. This is different. You are unable to see or interact with him.
I just wanted to make this post as a warning/information thread since a cause hasn't been determined. It's hard to find something that I did different between the 3 runs that would possibly have made this happen so perhaps it's just random? Either way, I'll leave this here as a warning for anyone running this category and also maybe we'll add to the thread if we're able to figure out a cause and effect for this issue (as well as any troubleshooting of course).
You can edit your submitted runs. Click your name in the upper right, select View Profile, select Pending Actions on the left, Click the run you are talking about, click the 3 dots just below the video on the right hand side, select EDIT RUN, change the time.
If it's already been accepted then that's a different story. This might be the right place for that.
Yeah this worked. You can't just set it in PPSSPP though, you actually have to load the game and THEN change it. I made the mistake of changing it before I loaded the game and it didn't work. After I loaded the game and changed it, it worked fine. So, standard config should be B1=square, B2=X, B3=Circle, B4=Triangle.
It changed sprint to square and map to triangle and also made it slightly more difficult to hit my flashlight (circle) but I just changed the way I hold the controller to adapt to the new controls.
So if anyone else experiences this issue, that's how you fix it.
Actually I think I may have figured this out. I took a look at Joy2Key to see what my buttons mappings are for Silent Hill 2 and button 1 is Square on that. Circle is B3, X is B2, Triangle is B4. Which means, square and triangle are flipped in the settings for PPSSPP for some reason. X and Circle should be correct. Which also means I'm going to have to adjust to using square to sprint instead of triangle if I change it. I think I'm going to do that and see if it fixes it.
That also explains why once in a while, I get a QTE right with the right key but also get it wrong a lot too. Half my keys are mapped incorrectly somehow. I'm not sure how that happened, I've never changed any settings in PPSSPP as far as I'm aware.
The emulator is PPSSPP. Controls are mapped as follows: circle=button3, x=button2, square=button4, triangle=button1. I'm assuming something is mapped wrong but I'm not sure which buttons need mapped to which keys. I never changed it - this is default for me.
So, I've been speedrunning this game again and I noticed something that I forgot to ask about last time I was running this game. When the QTE's pop up, the buttons they ask you to hit don't match the buttons on my controller. If it wants me to hit square, I have to hit triangle. I haven't figured the others out yet.
Does anyone know why that is? It's only on the emulated version as far as I can remember. PS2 version isn't like that. I'm using a dualshock 4.
Yeah I'd get a capture card or stream. In my experience, the recordings you get from using the Share button on PS4 sometimes skip a few seconds here or there and that can make your run get rejected.
I think they're trying to give people a chance to have an emergency restroom break or something while also not allowing the pausing to get out of control. Seems to be less about allowing cheating and more about just allowing people to keep their runs if they have a small emergency during a run. I'm just guessing since I'm not a mod but that's what it seems like to me.
My PS2 is dead (2nd one in less than a year). Looks like I'll have to buy a new one before I can test. I'll order one and test as soon as I can.
There's not supposed to be any differences but I also haven't been able to crack sub 40. I ran the game every day for about a year and never got under 40m50s on Any Difficulty. The thing everyone will most likely tell you is that there are no official differences in the timer in the various versions that everyone is allowed to run.
Alright I'll see if I can hook up my Ps2 this week and test for myself too. Thanks for the tips.
I'm going to be running this again soon so I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip
Pumpkin% has been opened for the new Halloween Haunt Event that just launched. It runs from October 25th through October 31st of 2019. Just start a new game normally and find 5 pumpkins throughout the game. Time starts and ends in the exact same spots. The ending is slightly different as are the pumpkin locations.
The category will remain up permanently even though the event ends in a few days. If they do another Halloween event next year, we'll start adding the year to the category name. Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, etc.
Will do. Your twitter profile says "ex-speedrunner" so I wasn't sure if I should hit you up there about speedrunning stuff but I will do that if needed. Thanks!
Are we going to get this added as a category or a new game or something? This mod hasn't been online in 3 months. Someone may want to hit them up or request another mod be added.
Is fast travel feasible during the speedrun? You can't use the radio to fast travel everywhere and you can only use it to fast travel to locations you've already visited so I guess my question is - would it even be worth it to do that sidequest during the speedrun? I've been practicing without it but am just wondering if doing that quest might knock a little time off the run.
that's super good news - thanks for notifying everyone!
Yeah I saw 1 drop in my run. I rewatched it this morning. But your run had like 7 or 8 of them. onesies, twosies usually isn't a big deal but when there are a lot of them, it's hard to verify that everything with the run was kosher.
