Ever tried to run Dino Crysis with FDS? Kappa

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

If PSP have to have its own category then why doesn't this apply for PS2 with FDS?

So the PSP category is based on the hardware were PSX is based on physical/digital version of the game?

I agree that a PS3 has no chance in beating a PSP on PSN. But the same applies for PS2 FDS vs PS/PS3.

Steven pointed this out 3 months ago: http://www.speedrun.com/re3/thread/vovyc

Guess nobody bothered to replace the links then, or they "missed" the thread.

Board looks alright SeemsGood

Personaly I prefered having the game categories as main categories. 2 reasons, Magnum% and Knife Nemesis% can be hidden in misc. and you dont have to spare some letters like I see you had to do in order to keep the first subcategory in 1 row.

Another thing is that GameCube for example will be divided with the Difficulty subcategory to 2 boards which means that JP runs and US/EU runs will be seperated.

I'll leave the Umbrella Leaderboard as it is for a little while (nobody cares about that game anyway, let alone speedrun it).

Look at this board and then the filter option http://www.speedrun.com/Umbrella_Corps/full_game

So we have PC: Original (Heavy/Light) Arrange (Heavy/Light)

Console: New Game (Hard/Easy)

Whats the difference between Console Hard and PC Arrange Heavy?

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

So what is the difference between Original & Heavy and Arrange & Hard?

is it just the name? cause if its only the name then just change the name, will save alot of boards, subcategories and it will look better.

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

Have the categories as the main categories. Have 1 subcategory for the platforms. Then have arrange as a variable.

Is arrange really that popular for it to have its own subcategory?

@wolfdnc

"I seem to fix it and tested it offline and it seems to run not faster or slower than Ubi version." This shouldv'e been posted in this thread once you realised that the versions seemed to performed the same. If you did this test within the last 2 hours then fair enough.

"and no I do NOT have time to read posts on forums" The threads were over 2 months old wolf......

"Supermod , mod, runner dude like come on you are taking this like it is more important than life you gotta calm down a little." If the mods wont listen to our valid arguments, votes and would rather stick with a version some runners (japan) cant run then there is only so much you can do.

"You are taking this a bit too personal towards me and duds js." My answer above + If any moderators acts opposite to what thay are suppose to do then I'm gonna have to call them out on that. I'm not alone when im saying that it seems you guys sometimes act like you own this board or something and that you decide alone whats going on on this board. If I was talking with a non-mod then I wouldn't have to do all of this but that how it is with mods. You have more responsibility and the community expect you to listen to everything and act after the communitys will. And hey atleast it got you talking and somewhat more serious.

@DudleyC_

"I am not against running the EA version if it is indeed comparable in speeds (which your frame data confirms)." Well thats good to hear but if EA was still slower then I guess UbiSoft would still be the version to run? Which of cource means that if I ever made a translation or slightly modded the game to make it faster then you would have no option of approving it. If you allow 1 version that comes from a unconfirmed source then why would you reject another?

"And I do believe that the actual runners of the game (which is the reason they are mods in the first place) should hold more authority/say over others.´" I ran this game way before anyone of the current runners even started. Last time I ran the game was in august. And how do we determine the unactive runners? Where goes the line and who draws it?

"Some of us have a finite amount of time to spare." I'm fully aware that people got other stuff to do in life but this board had 6 supermods before Julian got added as a mod. 6 Mods should be more then enough to moderate a board.

Lastly I do wanna say that I didnt want to attack anyone. Most people just want to have fun with running the game and I do take it one step further, especially when it comes to moderation. If I see someone is wrong and there is valid evidence against it then the right thing to do is to correct them. Like "RE2 runs better on a bad PC", anyone stating this better have some good evidence to back them up otherwise its just plain missinformation and a lack of understanding on how the game works.

I do hope that this discussion ends here and EA becomes the new standard (unless the UbiSoft Disc turns out to be genuine and exactly the same). Since EA and UbiSoft seems to perform exactly the same then the current runs wont have to be deleted like i stated earlier.

Does wolf have any numbers from those tests? Was there any major things that I can test myself? I think its more likely that wolf already assumed that the EA version was going to be slower then UbiSoft, add the "underground post" on a public forum tweet and we can tell that he wasnt exactly thrilled about this version before his test. Therefor I think that he didnt do these tests with an open mind, I think he assumed theyanswer before he did this play through and I bet he didnt try his best. Why would ones opinion with human inputs have more credibility then framecounting done by a TAS?

I've done the frames for pick ups which I saw wolf was complaining about on stream, I'm also gonna do combining things in the inventory which was another thing he had a problem with.

"It may not fully be justified but when most of the leaderboard does not own a physical copy of the Mediakite version let alone a copy of any RE3, it's just very hypocritical. " MediaKite and EA are ripped straight from the disc to an iso, Ubisoft comes is a folder that doesnt look legit at all and we still dont know if the disc version keny got would be the same.

And if EA turns out to be the same or even faster then what reason would you have for not switching? If they are the same that means that the current runs on the board could stay but people would have to switch to EA cause its a confirmed copy and it looks a hell of alot better.

I find it sad that I take this game way more serious then 2 of the mods of this game. I find it sad that they are incapable to reason or even listen to what the majority in this thread has said and still think that they have more authority to decide, choosing personal opinions over legitimacy and facts. Putting Babyrage in every post and stream title. Tweets like: "Underground Post" -> He's a supermod for the game and he has never read a thread on the forum............... Lazy to change the leaderboard so they hire a new mod to do the work for them. PC on fullgame leaderboard, every other platform on level-leaderboard and mercenaries is its own game? RE3 could look just as good as RE2 and that is not a personal opinion.

I have to say this, You should not be mods for this game and I could this way better then you ever could.

So I've done some framecounting between UbiSoft and EA. UbiSoft was set to 800¤600 EA was set to 960¤720 (forgot to change resulotion)

Gun Powder A pickup (Turbo)

EA: 408-358+1=51 529-480+1=50 1698-1646+1=53 1812-1760+1=53 2815-2763+1=53 2920-2868+1=53 3945-3893+1=53 4049-4000+1=50 5209-5160+1=50 5298-5249+1=50 Average: 51,6 frames

UbiSoft: 169-119+1=51 311-259+1=53 531-479+1=53 666-617+1=50 905-852+1=54 1015-966+1=50 1255-1203+1=53 1380-1329+1=52 1581-1532+1=50 1688-1639+1=50 Average: 51,6 frames

Equip Gun SLOT 7 (Inventory>SLOT7>Equip>Exit Inventory) This was done with the fastest macro i could make.

EA: 430-392+1=39 487-449+1=39 542-505+1=38 597-559+1=39 650-612+1=39 701-664+1=38 751-713+1=39 802-764+1=39 852-815+1=38 904-866+1=39 Average: 38,7 frames

UbiSoft: 125-86+1=40 180-142+1=39 230-193+1=38 284-245+1=40 338-300+1=39 392-355+1=38 445-407+1=39 497-459+1=39 547-509+1=39 602-564+1=39 Average: 39 frames

Counting starts on the first frame where it starts to get dark before inventory opens, counting ends on the first brightest frame after closing inventory.

So far the versions are pretty much the same as far as inventory goes, despite if people think that the EA is slower. EA even had a bigger resolution and was on par with Ubisoft which had a lower resolution so if they were at the same resolution EA might be faster.

I'm still gonna make a macro for combining gunpowder and see if there is a difference or not. This time with the same resolutions. If anyone wants something specific tested just ask.

@Dudley: "I expect the copy to be identical to the Ubisoft version we are running."

What will happen if it turns out to be different? Serious question, I wanna know.

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

@rippercjr reason I brought up the seperator was because all the other version are ripped straight from the disc were Ubi isnt.

Now if we do get hold of an ISO that were ripped from the disc then there wouldn't need to be a seperator. Although I dont think some people are prepared to end this discussion if the Ubi disc turns out to be like the EA version, you know....legit.

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

yeah we can see the pictures.

if you got more pictures when you get the game then add an extra row between the links so its easier to see them like:

  1. [url.....picture.....blablabla....

  2. [url.....picture.....blablabla....

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

@keny did you actually get the game?

Could you stream it or upload pictures of the game? :D Like pictures of the box, CD, installation window, ingame fotage etc

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

http://www.zxhsd.com/kgsm/yxcd/2008/07/18/1350417.shtml

there you have it, one of the rares version of Bio3 and starting bid is 2 dollars.

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

Have your tried to search for that ISBN number or did you take it for granted that it was genuine?

I tried to search for it last night without finding anything. Most of the ISBN numbers these days are used for books and maybe they were also used for games in the past.

I'm not gonna stop there though, I'll get some help from someone from china to try to track it down.

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

Mag makes a good point. The evidence is pretty solid for EA and UbiSoft is very slim in comparison. How do you know that the ISO ( oh wait it's a folder right?) you are using right now for the Ubisoft version is the same version as that amazon post? EA, MediaKite and SourceNext has been demonstrated to be legit with physical discs.

EA should replace the current version until Ubisoft gets the same kind of evidence like EA/MediaKite/SourceNext

SwedenDarazanjoll8 years ago

@DudleyC_ go as fast as you want me ol' China.

Just separate China from Japan and everyone can be happy.
