It's not just zips. It also makes certain skips more consistent, mainly jump based skips. Although, allowing it for the entire run has implications, therefor the mod-team alongside the community decided that we'd allow the patch case-by-case. We still need to update the list of allowed skips, although this has been lower priority since active mods have been working on setting up the leaderboard for Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Categories are added based on sufficient natural demand for them. If there's enough people to warrant adding a new category, we'll ensure to discuss with the mods to add it.

Again, nobody has issues except you -> local problem. Check your browser cache settings (discord is just web based), reset your browser, etc.

The ability to now mark potential Twitch runs at risk as safe or rejected is a good feature. Shoutouts to SRC for quickly coming up with new features.

I know that this is mainly runner responsibility but on most boards I moderate, moderators really wanted to have a failsafe in the form of backing up runs at risk locally. With how far this news spreads on SRC, I still really think a lot of runs are just going to die otherwise. There has been no site-wide message still, so the reach of these news posts is still very minimal. I think SRC should still consider a site-wide notification for this issue.

The new triage run is also a good feature. Call it nitpicky in the context of above message, but I'm not really sure the change of hiding the Verify/Reject options, which were previously buttons in the run verification popup window itself, behind a dropdown menu now. It's just one extra click from what I can't really see the reason for hiding those buttons for, they were actually pretty handy. Edit, I saw another mod also posted about that here

I doubt runners will move over to YouTube just because of this. Especially when you have an established audience on Twitch.. this would be a relatively small thing in comparison to go over to YouTube for. YouTube has a bunch of upsides, like streaming on very high bitrate, but overall I'd say its still a very immature platform for streaming and I'd be surprised if this would actually make people move over to YouTube, especially for people who've been on Twitch for years. However, once YouTube gets their streaming act together I think we might see a surge of new people speedrunning over on YouTube, or even an increased amount of Twitch/YouTube multistreaming.

I think in the communities for games that I mod, there is definitely some encouragement to ban Twitch Highlights moving forward after this situation. But its not that any of these platforms are perfect either: YouTube privating videos back in 2022, the imgur deleting content situation, Discord CDN issues.. it all affects communities and SRC constantly. The only thing we can do is try to adept to situations as they come I'd say.

But I still think speedrun.com can play a much bigger role in situations like these. If you are going to supply communities with the tools to be self sustaining and not want to deepdive into false promises of, well lets be real, something unrealistic as hosting runs directly on speedrun.com, then situations like these can really use some more thinking along and a better response from speedrun.com. Small remediation features to assist communities in situations like these would go a long, long way.

Here's some of the ideas I came up, but also things I've read in other communities. I'll add them as I find more:

  • Message runners directly now on the site addressing this issue and their potential VODs are risk. I don't think its reasonable to assume everyone reads this news post (that is quite frankly not visible at all - a lot of users just have bookmarks to their relevant games) or read Twitter. What % of runners is actually aware of this issue?
  • A guide on how to create an export of runs on boards you mod that have Twitch Highlights that may be affected through the API, or even better, temporarily allow mods to generate such an overview through the mod hub.
  • Provide an option to make resubmitted runs that were already verified previously distinguishable from new runs. The audit log can already show this, but its still locked behind super mods (why?) and is a hassle to consult for every resubmitted run. Having visible in the run verification window when a runner edited a run and resubmitted a previously verified run would help a lot. For example, in this situation when you'd edit a Twitch Link into a YouTube one.
  • Some sort of page, even if its temporary, that allows to quickly edit the video link of your runs and resubmit it so you don't have to open every run one by one which is a lot of extra steps (I doubt SRC would even let you do that with the rate-limiting anyway so perhaps another thing to consider)

I know this situation is very much "GLHF" for everyone, because this is a problem of all of us. But I can't help but feel some short term help from SRC with some tools/functionality to tackle this problem would be very nice. Back in 2014 with "the great Twitch Past Broadcast purge" affected a lot of runs on speedrun.com and there was no solution for this, makes me wonder if Elo can not do more here besides confirming an issue we already knew about and speculating about a long term solution that may or may not happen.

For example, would it be possible to look into supplying moderators and runners with some functionality that allows us to get a better understanding of the scope of this issue? How else as a mod are you going to have a reliable source of info now? For mods, having an overview of which runs are Twitch Highlights would be very helpful to know what to take action on as April 19th comes closer. Since, are you going to rely on every single runner seeing this post or knowing about this issue? Only a percentage of runners will actually know about this issue. Not everyone checks Twitter, not everyone checks SRC weekly. Mods could help message runners, or help downloading those runs based on that information.

For runners themselves. Imagine if you are a runner and you have hundreds or potentially thousands of submissions on SRC with Twitch Highlights mixed into it? After reuploading your runs to some platform like YouTube, you still need to manually open every run, edit the run, resubmit it.. It's honestly going to be very tedious. Perhaps allow us to quickly edit video links in one overview instead of opening runs one by one might already be very helpful.

Then there is also moderators and reverification of these runs. Some functionality that allows easier verification for mods for runs that will be resubmitted because of this could be nice. Even some sort of note saying that the run was previously verified on date/time X and was recently resubmitted with an adjusted VOD link would be pretty helpful.

These are just a few ideas but I seriously hope SRC would actively think along with how they can aid both mods and runners with making our lives easier in this process. I don't think anyone here expects a fully fledged solution anyway.

Edit: I noticed the OoT community posted a spreadsheet where they used the API to generate an overview of which runs on the board have Twitch Highlights. Knowing a lot of mods and communities don't know how to operate the API: perhaps a temporary method for super mods in the GUI to generate such a sheet could also be very helpful.

Are there any plans to add a field for mod notes when verifying runs?

In the games I currently mod, we just put mod notes in the description of the run but that doesn't sound like the best solution as its both public and meant for the runner.

It was added awhile ago. Probably was held back due to the major leaderboard restructuring that happened few months ago.

Are you all speedrunners like that? Can't take advice and criticism. If you all thinks that using Carthus Rouge post nerf is still good, go ahead. Especially with bosses that have resistance. The only Base Boss that is extremely weak to Bleed is Crystal Sage.
