I'm not sure if anyone's thought about doing it before. I'm not opposed to it. I think the password system would make it pretty easy to get to whichever level you felt like running.
I don't see the point. Considering how much this site likes to avoid stepping on the toes of other communities, 95% of a highscores.com site would look like this.
"The community is tracking this leaderboard at twingalaxies.com until a time at which API synchronization between the two sites is developed or circumstances change."
In my opinion, the solution is to make bounties exclusive to live events in which runs can be attempted in front of a live audience, recorded in its entirety from multiple angles, and confirmed by as many people as needed. Make a new board that tracks live event runs, make note of who has had the fastest time in each game at said events, and they're the live event champ until someone dethrones them and if that happens, you make it rain on them. That's the way to go.
Please set up the Mega Man, DKC, Mega Man Zero, and Halo boards.
@ShikenNuggets There's definitely a reason why they'd attempt the sync, and it's a good one. Pulling off a sync makes things super easy. Mega Man has hundreds of runs and it would take effort from any of us to manually port them over. Thing is, no one is getting the job done and although the sync is a good idea, the boards could have been up by now in the time it's taken them to get to this point from when I first started asking about it more than six months ago. Absolutely 0% of the people on this website are saying we should force site staff or anyone to manually set up the boards; I've offered to do it all myself and then hand over mod status to somebody else on multiple occasions. I stand by that. I'll do literally all of the work for 23 games and then let someone else take the reigns. I'm not here to increase my status, I'm not here for glory, I'm here for one reason and that's to make this site the most convenient site for speedrunners that it can possibly be. I'm here to get things done and that's it.
@Timmiluvs The Mega Man X series and Battle Network series are currently set up and working just fine without sync. The idea that it's sync or not at all holds no water here and those aforementioned series boards are proof of that. Additionally, the idea that there'd be two distinct groups of mods, one for each site, is also a non-issue. The moderators of MMLB.net are also moderating the X series on SR.com and they're doing a fine job of it. The issues that are being brought up as reason to oppose the idea are all accounted for. We all know based on what happened with X3 that when push comes to shove, the MMLB.net guys will step up and do the work if you give them the proper motivation. I showed that. All that's left is for site staff to give the greenlight and it's a done deal.
All the more reason to let people manually set up the boards instead of waiting on a sync that may never come. As ROMaster2 said, it can be done in a matter of days. It's just a matter of the staff realizing that they don't have the time, inclination, knowledge, skill, and/or means to pull this off in a reasonable time frame and that it would save a lot of headaches for more than a few people to let someone else handle the load.
"cliques who will outright reject certain changes" - On this site? What the...
The whole point of speedrun.com is to be the one site that tracks everything. If the people who run this site don't get on board with their role in the speedrunning community soon and start acting like the sharks they're supposed to be, someone is going to eventually come in and fill the void. Speedrun.com has a great opportunity to corner the market on speedrun leaderboards and they're not capitalizing on it as well as they could be. They need to be acting like Walmart and trying to absorb everyone else and put all other boards out of business before someone ends up doing it to them.

Dang, you got me. I'll know not to tussle with you in the future.
Being able to pay for a flag sets a precedent that might be of interest to somebody like Sealand dude. Is Antarctica allowed because it's legit or because somebody paid for it? If the latter, why not Sealand? If the former, you shouldn't need to pay anything to keep Antarctica around.
There's definite room for improvement. You have to be careful about voicing that opinion though because there's a clique of people on here who get really defensive about the site. Some of them might bully you if you don't watch your step.
I agree with blueYOSHI here. There's no reason anyone has to be excluded. If you're having a hard time picking which board to move everyone to, just go by which one has the most runs on it already, as that means less runs to port over and thus less work.
Have one board for Hydro Thunder, same categories, and sub-categories for each version of the game. That's the way to go IMO.
It's been two months since the last post and four months before that since the last thread. That's a total of half a year since I started keeping track of how long I've been asking about this. Any new updates to speak of? Last we heard, Pac was working with on the DKC boards. What progress have we made?
ROMaster2 claims "I can have the entire series up in two days or less" about Mega Man and I imagine the same could be said about DKC as there are less games and less runs total. If the job isn't close to being finished, is it time to talk about changing circumstances? I'm wondering if we could define "agreeable fashion" for the record so we know what the goal is on both sides. What exactly are we hung up on and how can I contribute?
If the IGT is bugged, just sort the games by RTA. if you acknowledge that there's a problem with IGT and still allow four out of five submitted runs to not have their RTA listed, I feel like you're asking for trouble. If you sort by RTA and the developers eventually fix the IGT, the runs can still stay on the board until you get a new PB.
I was pretty sure we had this separated by Ally and No Ally already. I'm surprised to see it isn't.
Edit: 16 hours after my original post, I've added an Ally/No Ally variable to the Tournament category. Everyone take a look and let me know if it looks alright. If so, I can apply it to Tournament (Minion) as well.
I'm very curious as to which game this conversation was about.
