Does The-Eiite play PDZ?
I wonder if you can glitch your way into one of the rooms with intercom to page Dr Carroll and get him to spawn that way?
that's a good point, might be an xbone-only strat, though it would only really be a backup / safety either way
I got the nickname Doctor Dave in high school, because I wore a cream-coloured jacket lol. I also use that as the name I release dance tunes with.
The 5001 is just a random number, because there's always already a Doctor Dave on every website I join ever :P It's just habit now
The checkpoint for Trinity Infil. is just after the Brothers fight at the start, so OOB or other tricks would still be needed to achieve 58.
With the 2 OOB I know save time, and not screwing up lol (for me that was definitely the Temple...) sub-55 is definitely a reality, but yeah, hopefully more can be found. There us an OOB in Jungle but its fairly near the end I think. I haven't tested it for myself though.
As long as we don't accept runs with no video evidence then checkpoint reloading shouldn't be a problem here. I think it could be a viable strat for full-game runs though, since iirc you restart with ful body armour. For example, if you take a lot of hits during the Brothers fight, you can sacrifice 5 seconds or however long it takes and get full health / armour again.
I've spent the last hour researching the OOB possibiities, all the ones I can find with clear explanations are no use for speedrunning lol, got a few videos with useful skips but no commentary, so I'll have a bash and see if I can work out what's happening.
I imagine SDA would be SpeedDemosArchive? Which is another speedrunning site
My guess would be OOB. They were demonstrated in Adam Miler's videos but I don't know how exacty to replicate them. This is obviously jumping the gun, but if OOB is available in several levels, perhaps that could be a new category?
DeepDarkness will be making some guides soon I think, perhaps he can shed some light.
Maybe I should switch to 360 for full-game, didn't realise I was cheating haha
Been really getting back into London Acid Techno recently
The version I'm using is the Rare Replay one, I don't notice any differences really (I do have an original 360 copy too). Having said that, it did get an update a month or 2 ago (for what I can't imagine), so maybe that does have something to do with it.
tbh I've always thought that ILs should be ranked by IGT and full-games by RTA (like The Elite) but it's never really been a problem. If somebody beat one of the IGTs but was knocked down a place by loading times I would have brought it up. 23 seconds is insane!
Good luck, tbh doing even a full SA run is too frustrating lol
Welcome and don't be afraid to share any skips / glitches you find ;P
I didn't know if there was any not-the-correct-region issues with PC games like there is consoles
I don't know if the European version is any use to you, but there's some Italian copies on ebay (4 left at time of posting)
Good luck man, I recently unearthed my old PS2Slim for similar reasons, no idea what model it is though. You'll smash that goal, don't worry ;)
The first game I was personally aware of that encouraged fast times was Goldeneye, but, as mentioned before, I am aware that Doom was very competetive before that.
My current main game has only 1 other runner, but I find the game itself a lot of fun [to run] so it's not really an issue, although it's not really competetive since it's not their main game.
I think the main downside to running games with no community is that there's no real motivation or even point in optimization.
