Was going to ask the same question, specifically for PS2 -> Elgato HD, found some composite-to-HDMI cables on Amazon but looks like this'll do nicely :)
Welcome! I think it's best to start with something you know and enjoy - if you know a game inside out casually then theoretically it shouldn't be too hard to incorporate any glitches or speed strats into a playthrough :)
Default WRs are the best kind!
Seriously though, welcome aboard and good luck for future runs / games :)
You can ask the mods of the game(s) if they accept video without a timer on-screen, if so then problem 2 solved.
As far as capture cards go, I have an Elgato and it's...ok, but It takes a lot of hassle to get running on my Win10 laptop (but to be fair that's probably [partly] my laptop's fault)
I was big into Let's Plays a few years back, and I stumbled upon a Siglemic SM64 run (1:43ish iirc). I had never heard of speedrunning before, and I became an avid viewer after that. Finally decided to start trying to run myself a few months back, on Perfect Dark Zero specifically, to impress my kids. Running games helps with my depression and anxiety so I'm glad i finally gave it a try.
Man, I only found out about UKSM a few days after it finished, any chance of having a marathon in Scotland? ;)
I wish more than 2 people ran Perfect Dark Zero. Granted, as a casual game it's not very good, but as a speedgame it's oddly satisfying
My capture card just randomly deciding to stop recording or corrupt the footage halfway through a run. Yes, even my capture card has RNG lol
At the moment I'm concentrting on Perfect Dark Zero (again, initially to impress my kids since they love the game but actually it's pretty fun) I'm restricted to using 360/Xbone atm so not a huge amount of choice, but I'm thinking Ultimate Doom and Wolf 3D next. (And probably try for the Oblivion OOB lol) I'm actually looking into routing Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty since nobody's run that yet, but it's not looking promising
Been a fan of speedrunning for a few years now, just as a viewer, but recently decided to give it a go (mostly to impress my kids). I'm having fun so far, so hopefully I'll stick around for a bit :)
I agree with the different boards thing, but thanks for updating anyhow :)
Sorry for newb question, but how do you go about this? Simply paste link or use embed code?
Cheers :)
Was going to ask the same about using the XBLA version, I guess I'll just leave platform / port blank?
So I found a way to manipulate the RNG...sort of.
The problem I had was that as soon as I encountered the locked door I quit the level and started again. For whatever reason, this locks the RNG in whatever state it was currently in. The only way to "reset" the variables is to complete the level with the "bad" RNG.
So in theory if you play a level until you encounter the bad RNG and complete it, you should have a very high chance of good RNG the next time you play the level. You could do that in preparation of a full-game run but it's farly time-consuming and annoying lol
(This also works for Jack's cell location in Laboratory Rescue)
I know if the door on the left IS open, then you can page Caroll from one of the offices in the hangar and it'll send him to a specific location. Ah well, I'll have to see about getting a safe route for the right door, because I want to do some full-game runs and as it stands that'll really trip me up lol
