@EmeraldAly Just like how speedgames weren't all built to measure the player's speed, many scoregames weren't built to measure score.
It would be foolish to limit high score leaderboards to games that actually show your numerical points. Just like it would be foolish to limit SRC to racing games with in-game timers. Any game with a measurable objective can be "scored" outside the game's own systems.
In any case, plenty of new and popular games do measure score, so it's not like it'd be only retro games.
Honestly all four options you laid out are great imo @Pac
Here's a thought, though.
To speedrun. A speedrunner. Speedrunning. The action of running though a game with the goal of speed. It's a term and we've all helped coin it.
What the heck do you call someone who attempts to get high scores? A scoregamer? A highscorer? An eScorer? (Pls no)
This is an opportunity to not just create a hub, but to breathe new life into an old hobby. If you're interested in positioning it alongside speedruns, why not match the branding and wording?
If we need to, we can coin a new term. I know I joked months ago that someone should get scorerun.com, but I could get behind that.
Or pointrun.com
Or topscore.com
Edit: this is not directed at anyone in particular, just a trend I've noticed in the last few (dozen) pages...
Just a friendly reminder that even if someone looks like they don't use their Twitter/Twitch/whatever, you should still send them a message. There's a good chance they'll get an email notification.
For instance, I don't tweet. But if anyone @s me, I'll get a phone notification, an email, and a phone notification from the email.
So generally speaking, when someone says "I didn't message them via X because they don't seem active there", that's still not sufficient effort. It doesn't take much to ping the mod on every available front.
IMO.
Can we get a permanent link?
Joined. Looking forward to it :) I'll have to get better at it before I can start doing runs.
If the posted runs tend to get buried (and pinning messages is useless in Discord), perhaps the next step is to start a Google doc and submission form. I'll bring it up there.
I'm not trying to test you or anything. I am sincerely interested. Moreover, I'm the only one here trying to see your side of the issue and trying to give you good advice on what your recourse is, but to be honest if you can't even make the effort to throw out a link then I can't see how you intend to build a community.
It's actually the least you could do to support your arguments and you're bewilderingly silent on this now.
Is there really a Geoguessr Discord?
Hey I'm still waiting on an invite to the Discord. I'm interested in knowing how or if the speedrun works.
(Also, those of you who haven't played it, there's a lot of critical thinking involved and it's helpful to have some solid geographical knowledge. The concept is very, very simple. But that doesn't mean it lacks depth.)
Or make a Discord, and add it to the many speedgame Discord server lists. Put all the runs on youtube. Cross-link them. Etc.
Geoguessr has more followers on Twitch than most Mario Party games. It might not be appealing to you, but I don't think you can lump it in with those 400 trash browser games. (That's not to say that I think it makes for a good competitive speedrun.)
For better or worse, we don't choose what games are allowed by committee, so there's not much you can hope to accomplish in this topic except to cause a stir. Make your own temporary leaderboard, run it like SRC, build your case, resubmit in a while. If it's still rejected, then stick with your own leaderboards. Plenty of games have gone this route.
All that being said, there is nothing stopping you from gathering more support, evidence, videos, etc. and trying again. There is no rule against resubmitting a game if you think you can strengthen your case. If you truly think your game belongs here, and if you've taken the two sensible posts above this one in serious consideration, but you're still looking for recourse, then that's your option.
Don't push it though or you'll just annoy the staff lol.
I'm interested in learning more. What's the discord?
What if a third party (SRC, PayPal) facilitated the transaction?
For a bounty to be published, the requestor has to deposit the money.
When a claim to the bounty is made, there could be a holding period for the reward, and if the bounty is, after some study, in bad faith, then the site denies the claim the transaction.
Plus the site could take a small cut for its costs.
Edit: no I'm not reading other posts, just submitting my2c.
What's the best way to contact someone on Youtube?
I'm not sure why you'd ever try Youtube of all places if they have Twitter, Discord, or Twitch.
"Doing that would hinder on someone being available to take over as mod of the game you’re removing them from. Mass removing inactive people would leave a lot of games mod-less."
They are already modless if the mod is AWOL, so that's a moot point.
Anyway, it's just an idea. It's sad how many inactive mods there are.
When a mod is removed for inactivity on a game, are they also removed for inactivity on other games?
It seems like it would avoid future headaches.
@komrade not every game goes by that level of precision, nor should they. But if he wants to order it manually, that could be what he's implying ;)
@Eclipsed this is the wrong topic for that kind of question.
But since I'm posting I'll answer: the order is not usually random. It is sorted by the first to achieve the time. So if everyone got it on the same date, and everyone submitted at the same time, then the order might get mixed up. Make sure the submission date and date played are absolutely correct, and the site will do the rest. If the runs were all achieved at the same time, then what's wrong with the order bring a bit random?
If you still have concerns or if your case is truly exceptional, contact site staff directly or open a new topic ;) good luck.
