Another runner did a comparison some time ago, stating that VC times are faster by roughly 35 seconds. I guess he didn't include all the loading times needed to do a correct comparison if you're right. There isn't actually no problem around who has the better run, it will easy to estimate. The issue here is rather how much we should add on VC runs.
Yeah, I saw that too. Maybe it was that he didn't include the hammer bro/red box RNG, but I'm not sure. That's why in the original post I said I encourage other people to compare on their own and see what they get. Because if we find I made some dumb mistake (I'm pretty sure about the times but you never know), it could be changed. Also I think it's a good thing to not rely on the word of one person for a change like this, and multiple minds working on something are better than one. I can tell you how I did the analysis if you (or others) want to try it with different runs.
I'm probably not understanding, but didn't you say that red blocks/hammer bros move on the world map at same speed? Do you mean that VC has generally better RNG?
Btw yes, the more people work on this the better.
I think if we wanted to just see who has a better time execution wise we could just add up in game time. It would factor out overworld RNG though
Yes, it's a nice way to time runs in game having issues like loading times. But there are already 25 runs on the leaderboards.
We could work together to try to change times but it's up to the runners. Btw Walrus your 1-2 strat was AMAZING I immediately got my first 355 with shell and secret exit.

You can't really use the in game timer since it's not accurate enough. You'd lose/gain half seconds in all the levels that adds up to real time, and things like pipes (and maybe powerups?) stop the in game timer.
Since most people in here seem to agree about changing the timing, should we have a vote on how? Maybe the options could be something like:
- add 48s to all VC runs
- edit out loading times for all runs
- add 48s to all VC runs, but edit out loading times if two runs are close (+/- 3 seconds?)
- going by in-game timer, or some variation of this
- something else I'm not thinking of
- don't change how it is currently
Feel free to suggest other options.
My vote would be #3.
Wow nice run! I love the new strats! I'll definitely have to implement the shell strat. That will save me an easy 10-15 seconds on top of the 15 seconds or so I lost from being bad at video games. I think sub 23 VC is probably possible now.
As long as the loading times differencies estimate is accurate, there's no reason to deeply analyze two really close runs, I guess. Talking about going for IGT, as ewaller stated, we should keep in account hits/powerups and transitions, and we would cancel part of the RNG, that would serve exclusively for comparing executions and not for leaderboards purposes (unless we'd want to change times from RTA to IGT).
The 3rd option is the most viable one, as long as that 48s estimate is accurate, I think. Also, GregLvk EMU's estimate seems wrong too, if the new VC one is right.
Earlier today, Twitch has that they are "implementing a 100 hour storage limit for Highlights & Uploads starting 4/19." There is a 2 month grace period for people with highlights on their channel to be able to download their highlig
