Community decision or moderator decision is more important in a community
3 years ago

This question has always been in mind and actually I still don't know the answer. Btw I am NOT talking about site moderator in src but the individual community discord server which is about either speedrunning or not speedrunning. But if possible, I want to hear from site moderator too.

Typically I would say what the community wants, since a moderator is just one member of the community. However, I think that moderators should be able to override community decisions. If the community wants me to add die 69 times% as a category I'm not adding that.

According to the rules: “The users moderating a game should represent the consensus of the players of the game.” So the community decision is very important. However, if you think that what they are doing is against the site rules, if its a rule that it will damage the boards or make the runs less legitimate (calculators in mc) or that the decision was made without thinking, with illegitimate goals or that the people dont know then you shouldnt listen to that

runners (the community) should decide what categories etc should be there and do that through activity on those boards or vote etc. moderators have to form those things into doable descissions without making the board uncompetative.
