Why is video proof not required?
Canada

I just bought this game, and was considering speedrunning it, but now I'm concerned that either people won't believe me if I submit a time with no video, or worse, that others can post fake times. In this day and age no video is inexcusable. So if you have a reason for this ruling, please provide it.

e: Just in case the first response to this is "These runners don't' have DS cap cards" or "These runners aren't financially capable" I'd like to point out I'd be happy with a video taken from a smart phone or any other type of video camera. It's proof not quality that matters.

If you could afford this expensive handheld (I bought the new 3ds LL today for 11000 yen JUST to play this game, which was an additional 5000 yen) then I can't sympathize with budget problems, your computer you used to upload the run likely has a camera in it, you likely have a camera on your cell phone if you could afford a DS and this game. Unless you were gifted this console and game, and used a public library to upload your time, budget concerns don't logically add up to being incapable of providing proof for your run, just my personal take on it.

We originally set that rule simply to make the game more accessible. While financially there isn't much of a burden in video capturing a 3ds, it is a huge hassle. We just wanted anyone who decided they were interested to be able to run the game without feeling burdened by video proof. Video proof is obviously still nice, which is why I did record my blind (admittedly terrible) run, but decided to lax the rules in hopes that more people would pick up the game.

Now this rule is not set in stone and am more than happy to discuss changing it. I obviously haven't put much time into this game at all, so it would make no sense for me to enforce rules if other people picked up the game more seriously.

Glad to hear flexibility is being considered. I agree the game isn't being run seriously enough for it to matter, but thank you so much for the response. If I ever submit a time I'll do my best to get a video and then from there maybe we could discuss it further, but for now I'm still doing my first casual playthrough and it's a pretty big game.

Thanks again :)
