New Timing Method - Runs have been updated
Posted 9 months ago by

A few years back I was added as moderator for this game, and I spent some time restructuring the speedrun.com leaderboards for it. Any%, which was the only category at the time, was renamed to "All Cups," and "All Tracks" and "All Cars All Cups" were added as new categories. While writing the rules for these categories, I changed the point in which the run started. Originally, the timer would start when the first race started, and the announcer said "GO!" Now, timing begins when selecting "Race!" on the menu. This was done simply to make the beginning of a run a bit easier to start a timer during.

Since the timer is starting earlier than it used to, time is being added to existing runs. I meant to sit down and retime everyone's runs awhile back, but never got around to it. So I'm doing it now. The total time it takes to get through the menu varies a lot depending on console, version, emulator, etc. But, it also adds a lot of time to your run if you are not mashing the A or X buttons to get through the loading screen, and the intro cutscene. Because of this, the time added to each person's run varies greatly.

Before I go ahead and update people's times, I want to make sure everyone's aware this is happening and knows why/how the time was added to their run on the boards. You can view this spreadsheet to see all the affected runs, the time added to each of them, and the new PB you'll have.

Reach out to me on the Discord with any questions! Thanks!
