As far as I know, (and honestly I don't know too much about segmenting) there's no all-inclusive Half-Life speedrun segmenting software out there.

Before I tell you how exactly you can make a segmented run, I want you to bear in mind the kind of undertaking something like this is. If you're aiming for sub-HL21 time, which is the impression I get from this post, it'll take a LOT of time and digital elbow grease. Singular segments alone could take days, weeks, possibly months to complete (especially since there are only you and one other person working on this—I recommend finding some extra team members.) You're also going to have to find a new trick, route etc. that shaves off time from HL21, which will also be an undertaking in and of itself, seeing how HL21 is virtually a "perfect." Half-Life run.

But if you fully understand how tough this task will be and are prepared to dedicate bucketloads of time to it, I say go ahead. Without further ado, here's roughly how you'd cobble together a video for it:

• Software

Recording software, editing software, and a way to time each segment. This is at least the bare minimum of what you'd need, you can add anything else that you find essential at your own discretion.

Obviously you'll need decent software recording and editing-wise if you don't want your video to look like something from 2005, personally I use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) for recording and Hitfilm 4 Express for editing—both of these are free, but I have no budget. Also, I use a Mac, which greatly limits my software choices. I can vouch for both of these, they both work well for recording/editing and are probably the best options if you're looking for something free. If you, unlike me, have a budget, just research some paid software, see what'd be best for you.

As far as timing programs go, LiveSplit is always the go-to for speedrunners. There are some other options out there, but that's arguably the most popular/best one.

• Segmenting

As I mentioned before, this is going to be the most painstaking part of the run creation, and it's why I suggested that you add some extra team members, doing a segmented run like this with only 2 people will be a horrible experience.

But yeah, you're going to have to do each segment individually for the best results, you can cut down longer segments in HL21 if that makes it easier for you/makes the run faster/etc. Keep in mind not all the single-segment rules apply to segmented runs, but... just don't cheat, okay? (e.g. TASing parts of the run, using scripts that give you an unfair advantage)

• Video Creation

Finally, once all of the segments are finished, you'll need to stitch them together in the aforementioned editing software. The bare minimum you'd need to do is lay them down in proper order and cut out the load times. If you wanna be flashy you can add in some sort of intro/outro/whatever. This is arguably the easiest part of making a segmented run—just remember to save your project often.

That's my input, hopefully it helps.
