Yeah I think the rules or categories (buff & no buff) in that situation need tweaking/clarification.

OFFTOPIC:
Since there's no response yet to this matter I'd also like to request some clarification on Winter Wonderland JPs timing and/or paths without creating a new thread. Sorry for the highjack.

There's 3 paths in WW. Some of them can be ran faster than others. I'd like to have categories for each and also about the timing it's hard to know exactly when you've landed on the platform (the first snowflake?). I've timed some of my runs from the edge of the starting platform but I think that's not optimal. Maybe better solution would be from the center of the starting platform, the spot you respawn to (?) if you run off the edge. I'm not even 80% sure if that would work that way but the timing start seems to be really tricky compared to literally all the other jp speedruns.

Let's be honest, rules that don't allow any usage of weapon, utility skills and any boons are retarded. I'd submit a run in literally every JP there are but this rule honestly discourages me. Don't you think it should be changed?

  DyeTraderDyeTrader

I think there's 2 sides to that jaytee but I support your view. If that would change then gemstore toys such as Executioner's Axe can create an advantage for those that have them and idk if they should be allowed. Maybe? That's a 700 gem investment only to have a shot at top times plus the item is rarely available.

Myself I enjoy the accessibility point of skilless (LUL) runs but at the same time I think more runners use skills than not.

EDIT: Executioner's axe probably should be allowed IF other skills were too, just to get the absolutely fastest times. And it's probably not even useful in most JPs.

  jayteejaytee

Gemstore bundles such as Exe Axe shouldn't be allowed, yes. But when you're running with thief or mesmer it's very tempting to shadowstep or blink, isn't it? Even if not weapon skills, then at least swiftness

BTW good to know someone even knows this game exists on this website 😃

The mod was active 1 month ago. Should we just write to headadmins of the speedrun.com to add any of us as a mod?

  jayteejaytee

Hmm I think glider should be forbidden in JPs that DON'T absolutely require you to use it (like Living Story 3 ones). Also with current rules, should traits or signets that passively increase movement speed be forbidden too? :v

I don't care who of us becomes a mod, we just need new set of rules 😃 mind messaging head admins?

  DyeTraderDyeTrader

The game mod has been active in other social media. Let's contact moe255 first so maybe he can come discuss this with us and maybe get him add some new mods if he doesn't frequent speedrun.com much atm.

I'll add moe on discord or something. I have some more thoughts on things below.

I see JP records as the main attraction here at this site. There's other sites for dungeon and fractal runs and even raid runs (gwscr.com, gw2dungeons.net) and I'm not sure if those people that have used those sites long would like to also migrate into here, and also records here would need to be compared to records from those sites.

Maybe there could/should be 2 categories for JP speedruns. One with mostly unrestricted rules and one with restricted rules?

  jayteejaytee

My opinion on this: we can either go full liberty, allowing literally everything except using ready mesmer portal 😃

2. forbid things like blinking/shadowsteping on the wall (boosting, skipping big chunks of JP), so everyone can just use weapon skills (excluding exec's axe) and swiftness [personally I'd think it's for the best]

3. Let it be how it is, maybe allowing either boons/passives or weapon skills.

We also have to discuss, should be Daredevil be allowed? Because his dodge is definitely strong, we don't want everyone to run this class.

About the HoT city buff - I don't think there are enough JPs in cities to forbid it, also I don't think anyone without HoT cares about speedrunning this game

Okay, just to make things clear:

1. I'll be active from now on, I had some difficulties with my pc as my HDD just stopped working and i had to get a new drive and reinstall everything (im working on that now)
2. I made the no skills/buffs rule because i wanted to make running equal for people who dont own a thief (which is for sure the OP class for speedrunning, next to mesmer). I personally own a lvl 13 thief I'm currently not playing but I still wanted to JPs... the thief is a very difficult class to learn and understand if you've never played him before and that's why I thought it was better to make the no skills/buffs rule.
My solution: Making all JPs IL again as I had it before, this would allow us to make a no skill/buff and a skill/buff category which would make everyone happy.

If I want to get more things off my chest, I'll write them down here. I also thought about making a GW2 Speedrun Discord to make things easier. I'll be working on that now, I'm gonna send the invitation link here if it's created.

EDIT: again to the no skills/buffs rule: I just wanted to ürevent people from all using thief because it kinda kills the usage of different classes which I wanted to keep. But if you guys want, we can also do one category with gliding/mounts and skills/buffs and one category without gliding/mounts but with skills/buffs still allowed. To be honest if I start thinking of the no skills/buffs category, idk if anyone of you guys would run it if y'all like to run with thief.

My thoughts on jaytee's last post: In the skills/buffs category I would still ban:
1. blinking/shadowsteping
2. exec's axe (as it's still something different as making a thief (which everyone can do, the axe costs real money)

I wouldnt ban daredevil because as you already said, nobody without HoT/PoF will be interested in running JPs i guess.

  moe255moe255

Next question: Should we ban the teleportation guns? They would open new routes which would be indeed very cool, but I dont want the category to get out of control...

  jayteejaytee

You don't want eveyrone to run thief, but not banning daredevil will make everyone run it. The dodge that grants swiftness has 450 range, while others have 300, so we'd just need to ban the usage of dodge trait.

About the guns - probably yes, also Experimental Rifles

  DyeTraderDyeTrader

I don't know anymore. I feel like many people have disagreeing opinions on what they think the rules should be. At this point I'd allow pretty much anything for some category so that the scores could be comparable with for example rogue speedrunners that use the exec axe. I disagree on banning bunch of stuff.

Warrior is also strong with sword/warhorn (swiftness, leap) / greatsword weapons. There's class disparity of course with 9 professions but that just can't be helped in mmos. Some of them will be shafted. Necro anyone?

  jayteejaytee

Exactly, you can't balance the rules so every class will have the same results unless you ban literally everything, which then makes it not really a "speed"run. No wonder people will play thief, mesmer and warrior but these are the fastest classes and we have to accept this fact

  moe255moe255

Okay i decided to make jaytee and DyeTrader mod because i think they are pretty much willing to organise things with me so we can get shit done better. i would agree with jaytee, its just normal that everybody plays thief because the swiftness is one advantage of this class...

  DyeTraderDyeTrader

Thank you. Can we get a discord server going so we can discuss things without flooding the forums?

  jayteejaytee

It's not like this forums are getting much attention anyways, but if you decide to make a discord hit me with an invite, my username is in my profile

also, thanks for modding me, i don't have any experience with being mod on this website so i hope i won't screw anything up :^) so should we make JPs into individual levels instead of full game runs? browsing them right now is a real pain, you have to scroll through all of the names

also should we split them into restricted/unrestricted?

  jayteejaytee

I meant screwing something up when editing rules or changing the levels altogether
