Web/Mobile sub-categories

Currently the record for "Any% - Easy, Mobile" is 4 seconds. While this is impressive, it's different from the other runs in that category in that it's apparently a mouse attached to an Android device, instead of a touchscreen. This puts it on the same ground as the runs in the "Web" sub-category. To keep all the runs consistent, I think the sub-categories should be input-based, i.e. Web/Mobile should be changed to something like Mouse/Touchscreen.

Touchscreen has an advantage over a mouse. 4 seconds run is probably emulated, which is currently allowed as no real advantage was found. Doubletapping has the same effect as double-clicking in the mobile version, plus it would be impossible to tell for sure since some people like to hide their cursors during recording.

If it's "probably emulated" then it should probably be tagged as such. I still think the categories are confusing. If I open the web version on my mobile device, would the run go in Web or Mobile? Under the current rules it would go in Web, while the game plays exactly like Mobile.

Alright I see. Mobile Web is different from a PC Web version. Even field sizes are different. I'll add another category for Mobile Web runs

While I agree with both statements we can definitely improve the presentation, so I'm going to work on that.

Ok I've revamped the leaderboard so now it's split into: difficulty, platform and control type.

So now it's a lot clearer which run goes where

I used windows phone companion to click on my phone screen using mouse and I play on Samsung Galaxy S10e, also played from Google Games application thing (not browser). It's not really emulated, but it's not "touchscreen" either, so this forum post makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is the new "web/mobile" category right next to "web" and "mobile", what does it actually mean though?

Ok, now the categories makes sense, with the touchscreen and everything, thx <3

To make things even more complicated, how does the game run on iPhones and iPads (I tried playing the game on my Kindle device but it just wouldn't work)? Inspecting the website's code shows some lines for adapting these platforms, and it's possible the playing field is different there too.

It may be easier to just ban touchscreen runs that don't use the official app. I know the Google Snake Game had a similar issue, where different-sized screens would result in different playing fields. If I'm not mistaken, right now only keyboard runs are accepted there.

Yes, in google snake the board size was quite different between devices so we decided to not allow said runs. Now for minesweeper we'll have to experiment a bit more, because straight up banning a whole platform doesnt seem like a good idea

I said we might end up banning these runs, of course we'd need to discuss it more if we were to do so.

Just using my browser's inspection tools to view the mobile version at different dimensions, I was able to get Easy boards with dimensions 6x11, 6x12, 7x11, 7x10, and 8x9 (the regular browser version is 8x10). While at first I thought the smaller boards would be easier, I think they're actually harder since the mines tend to be less scattered, meaning more clicking is usually required.

Leaderboard Revamping

Web runs done on devices that google recognises as phones (the ones with vertical layout) have been moved over to the mobile category, as there is no discernable difference between the two.

So basically:

Vertical Layout is MOBILE (either website or the app) and must be played with touchscr
