Hello! Apparently I started speedrunning this game, sent a run, and got granted super moderator role. Given that I had issues with how the game was set up, I decided to fix it now that I have the chance.

TL;DR: Check everything for the game; pretty much most things changed, I believe for the better.

How the old rules and categories worked:

  1. There were four categories: "Any% with skips", "Any% without skips", "100% with skips", and "100% without skips".
  • The rules weren't so clear on what Any% meant, and by my reading, it meant reaching World 15 (no need to play it).
  • For 100%, it said to complete every single stage; however, Gabbuchi features optional objectives, and the rules for 100% didn't say to complete them as well.
  • On the other hand, skipping stages was given a high importance that the categories were split based on skipping and not.
  1. Individual world runs were also split the same way.

  2. Runs were timed to start when you start moving in the first stage and to end when you collect the heart on the last stage.

The changes I've made:

  1. The categories are now reworked into "Any%", "All Stages", and "100%".
  • Any% is clarified, so that you have to complete stage 15-12.
  • The old "100%" is renamed to All Stages. There is a new 100% category that explicitly requires you to get all the optional objectives too.
  • Skipping is no longer broken up. It doesn't make sense to skip in an "all stages" run. The Any% rules have been clarified for what you do if you want to skip and if you don't want to skip.
  1. Individual world categories are simplified into "All Stages" and "100%".
  • It doesn't make sense to "Any%" run a world; there's no explicit end point. You need 8 stages completed to unlock the next world, but these 8 stages can come from any world you have, not just the current world. The old "Any%" has been renamed to "All Stages", since the current best run in W1 plays all stages.
  • The old "100%" is revised to be the new 100% that requires all objectives.
  • Since all categories play all stages, skipping makes no sense and has been removed.
  1. The rules for timing have been clarified.
  • Timing now explicitly starts from when you press the button to enter the first stage. The rationale is that, in a marathon setting such as GDQ, you have a countdown "3, 2, 1, go" before you start the run. The "go" usually aligns with the runner selecting to start the game, not making the first movement.
  • Timing ends when you collect the heart on the last stage.
  • Additionally, it's clarified you may start from any save file, unless you play Any% and plan to skip, in which you have to start from an empty file.

Hopefully this makes it clearer for any future runners to run this game, so that the leaderboards can get more busy.
