Is "Assault Android Cactus" a legitimate speed runing game? I just don't see it here, if i could i would start runing it if possible.
It's not because the game isn't on this site that isn't not a legitimate speedrunning game. It just means no one here did a run and a leaderboard.
In case either of you care, I'd be interested in running this game as long as someone else helps me mod the board for it. @walterx8 I currently don't have any runs recorded, yet. As for categories, I thought maybe campaign for every android? Starting after you can switch for Cactus of course. I have never done anything speed running related, but I adore this game and would love to find new ways to play it.
@FloraColossus Categories for running the campaign would be placed with different androids, meaning that the ruleset would be that the player have unlocked all androids first. This is the smartest thing i could come up with:
Timer starts when the player presses "Ready" with selected Android for the run, player starts on Zone 1 Stage 1 and plays untill you hit "Complete" in the ending screen against Medulla. Boss Dialogue will be set to "Skip" in the Game Menu About EX options might need discussing tho.
your thoughts? I really want to speedrun this :) never done speedrunning before but im in!

Since there's multiples androids and you can choose them before starting to "play", that seems fair imo.
As for the leaderboard, if you guys needs suggestions i guess i could help, i doubt it would be a good idea if i were a moderator or something like that though, i don't play the game, never heard of it, and so far i don't plan to play it myself.
Would be great! the timer could start after hitting "Campaign" because of there being a loading screen then character selection. Just wondering if the character selection should be timed or not, thoughts on that? Otherwise i would like to add the game on here and do a run.
imo if you don't actually play before choosing an android then i don't see why you should start the timer before it, just sounds like a waste of time, unless if you change androids in the run... i guess.
I'll do a run and try to add the game, can hope that more people picks up the game. @FloraColossus might play some :)
Sorry, I got busy for a few days and just now saw the new posts here. I like the sound of all of your ideas. Since the Androids are unlocked in story mode that makes sense to have them all unlocked prior to the run. I personally think that EX mods shouldn't be used, due to the fact that we don't know if the texture or humanoid ones alter hit boxes and/or collision detection. The "Rubber Music" should be fine though. How should the time splits be handled? Per "World" or whatever you call the area each boss controls?
Also, @walterx8 what's your thought on a boss rush speed run category?
Last thought, what about control scheme? I personally use keyboard and mouse, but I know game pads are supported.
Imo for the splits it depends on the runner, some peoples don't even use multiple splits, they just time the run from start to finish without splitting.
As for control scheme, well it depends, even if it's kinda the same thing as for splits : peoples uses what they're the most comfortable with. Still, sometimes keyboard is better than a controller, sometimes, it's the opposite.
Still, imo when you're good with what you use it doesn't matter much.
I will sit down today and record a run, last time I realized I had other things to do, I will most likely not be doing it with multiple splits after each boss because I will mostlikely forget to press the button to time it. otherwise i would suggest that they are timed when the boss falls to the ground, beaten.
Bossrush feels kinda meh to speedrun because of the already existing "Score Board" in-game, but ofcourse it's after score and not speed but it could happen. I will do campaign runs for the time being
@FloraColossus if we ever are awake at the same time it could be fun to run at the same time, could add on skype: easkiller
The split idea was just a thought for optimization. I was just thinking that I would approach a run by working out each section and the best approach for speed running it.
I can see the lack of appeal for Boss rush, but I personally feel that the non boss levels are fun, and also hugely frustrating. I have been trying to optimize the last "world", the one before medulla, and it just feel absurdly difficult to do without getting knocked down. Maybe I'm just not approaching it right.
Also, Skype is too much of a drain on my computer. Would Discord work? If so, here use this link. It's a temporary link so, try and be fast. [LINK REDACTED]
Ps
I'm starting collage classes again this week so, I might not have much time for a recorded run. But, I have a 3 day weekend this Saturday through Monday, so maybe then.
Also, just a note: I plan on using either Cactus, Lemon, or Peanut for my runs, I'm leaning towards Cactus due to certain Boss strategies such as skipping a phase on embryo:
This only works with some of the Androids and only if a blue power up drops. Just thought I should let you know.
Racingmonster, did you find a duty in replying to every single topic that exists on this forum ?
I've only recently started playing the game, but I'd be down to run it as well as soon as I get better at it.
@TucanSam I'm terrible at this game as well so, don't feel bad. If you actually want to run this game feel free to join our discord: [LINK REDACTED] Myself and Walter will be on all day Saturday, or at least for a few hours. Feel free to stop by.
