For Mods: Suggested rule change to prevent cheating on iOS and Android

For all the runs on the leaderboards so far, I think all of them are legitimate. However, with the current rules, it is theoretically impossible to tell if a submitted run is a segmented run or a single-segment run.

This is why I'm suggesting the following rulechange for iOS and Android: If your video was recorded with the built-in screen recording feature on your device, the video must have sound, and you must have the microphone enabled. If your video was recorded with a camera, make sure the screen is reasonably visible.

This is because a video with a cut will have an obvious line on an audio spectrogram of its audio: Video with obvious cut at around 6 secs: Spectrogram: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4559/38488845876_fb933ff1c1_b.jpg Spectrogram (zoomed): https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4541/38545096101_27cf765e8c_b.jpg Videos that are true single-segment runs will not have a break in the spectrogram.

The reason the microphone must be on for this technique to work is because the game audio is non-continuous, whereas audio from the microphone always has some baseline noise level that shows up on the spectrogram Game audio (without music) vs. mic audio: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4565/38488844196_0309e34dd4_b.jpg Game audio (without music) vs. mic audio spectrogram: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4552/38545095301_c0c4627dc6_b.jpg

Thoughts? And does anyone have any ideas for PC and Mac?

If I understand correctly, you are going to use a spectrogram to test the speedrun reliability, because when the video is cut, the spectrogram can see strange strips

Yes, but those strips will only show up if there is some form of continuous audio (such as noise from the mic or music)

I understand, so for mobile FlappyGolfers we have to do a sound recording order

Mac and PC, this is not a beautiful solution. We would have to forbid the use of these devices (obviously not removing the PuzzleKing speedrun because it is a fairly reliable speedrunner)

Eg: "PC and Mac are forbidden from 20.11.2017"

I don't want to ban those devices. Maybe we should make it necessary to record with a microphone for PC and Mac too. There should be ways to do that.

Poland

Hmm... maybe a rule for computer users to have some smooth music during speedrun?

United States

I don't like requiring music. It's too easy to edit in music. Acethinker Online Screen Recorder looks promising. You can even record the screen with a microphone. https://acethinker.com/free-screen-recorder

Poland

Woe, this problem is really very difficult to solve

United States

Have you checked out Acethinker?

Poland

No, maybe later. Now Poland is 10:30 PM and at 8:00 AM school... maybe 3-4 PM tomorrow

Poland

I'm going to sleep, good night or something, I don't know what time is in Pennsylvania

United States

Ok good night. I'm busy right now. Will have to check it out later

United States

Actually I’m not even sure where PuzzleKing downloaded Flappy Golf 2 for PC. It looks like an emulator, but the buttons display differently onscreen.

In any case, I think we should just change the rules. It’s completely possible to record your screen on PC and use a microphone, or just to use an external camera to record the PC screen. This rulechange would simply dissuade people from doing runs on PC or Mac

Poland

I'm recording an external camera with a visible keyboard

Poland

Sorry, it's not that I'm doing it (Google translate :( ). it's a good idea for a PC or Mac user

United States

So, we should definitely change the rules for iOS and Android.

But do you think we should change the rules for PC and Mac?

Poland

I don't know, I'm trying to figure out that PC users also have no easy way to cheat

United States

Ok. Can we change the rules for iOS and Android today? We can continue talking about PC and Mac

United States

No, for rule 5, I want the microphone to be active, not music.

I was thinking the rule could be worded like this: 5. If your video was recorded with the built-in screen recording feature on your device, the video must have sound, and you must have the microphone enabled. If your video was recorded with a camera, make sure the screen is reasonably visible.
