[Tool] Speedrun Manipulations (1.4.1w)
Updated 7 months ago by awesomeWaves

The following tool is used to achieve Late Quistis card in the Any% speedrun.

The tool is written in Java, so you will need to go an install that to your computer in advance. You can find the official download here: https://www.java.com/download/ie_manual.jsp

  1. Download the .rar archive and extract it to your computer. I recommend putting it in a static location as you will have to give it local directories in a moment.
  2. Launch the program and go to Options as the program also prompts you to and you will be presented with the default settings as shown below:

  1. Under Platform, select the version of the game you will be running on. This sets the parameters underneath to expected values.
  • Use PC for PC 2013 and all HD Versions (HD PC and HD Console)
  • Beetle is designed for PSX Digital
  • PS2 is as you'd expect, for PS2 console.
  • You can use Custom if you wish to further tweak the delay settings to your system or preference.
  1. The next 4 items are preference to each runner.

-- RNG Page Format will left align or center the options on the RNG page as shown:

-- Instant Mash Color refers to how the box to the right of the RNG result will display. I recommend the Background option as it's visually clearer as shown below.

-- Patterns Order is how the card games (which are determined by which cards the Trepe Fan uses) are listed. If they are 'by Frame', it's will list 1 to 10 in order. If 'by Name' it will list them alphabetically.

-- Buttons format refers to the use of checkboxes or radio buttons. I personally find radio buttons are less likely to make inputting errors but it's user preference.

  1. The important part to get the program up and running is the directory for 'Json file path' and 'Exe directory path'.

Starting first with Exe directory path, this links to the exe files within the card manip folder.

  • Select 'Choose file' and navigate to the following:
  • Resources > Strat.json > ff8-card-manip
  • Click on 'Open'

This is the location that this file will typically stay at.

Next is the 'Json file path'. This is a json file using which ever strategy/route the runner decides. For simplicity a selection of strat files are included in the release, however they are simply json files that you can tweak and change if you wish to do so.

  • Select 'Choose path' and navigate to the following:
  • Resources > Strat.json > pick whichever strategy you are using from the listed options
  • click on 'Open'

For example, if i wish to use the ECM route on PC i would navigate to the 'Any% ECM' folder and then pick 'Standard_ECM.json'

Make sure to 'Save' your settings and then return to the main menu.

For reference here is what my options page looks like after completing all the steps above:

Simply Click 'Card RNG Manipulations' on the main menu to use the program.

You should be presented with the following if everything was setup correctly:

Some recent updates

Hey all,

Just a quick post in the interest of transparency, here are some of the leader board changes that have happened in the background over the past few weeks.

  1. We have overhauled all the rules on SRC and confirmed their accuracy. There were some vague rules and overlaps between categories.
