GTAce hit the star block (not 1st pixel) in his record but had a good judges frame (75% of the time you get good judges just as long as you hit the star block anywere).

Just to reiterate, NONE of the SMB1 mods had anything to do with pellsson or darpey's ban on the SMB discord. I can have a chat with those mods and see if we can't get order restored for you and pellsson.

As far as the pellsson rom, Wes and I have long talked about taking up a collection. I can start a gofundme or if you want to donate directly to pellsson, we can find some way.

Other than two runs we're discussing, all runs are now two weeks old or less in the queue.

Generally speaking -- and just like another popular game, Tetris -- you should expect a 1-3 week wait time for such a popular game. Here is the message from the submission page of tetris:

"Before your run appears on the leaderboard, it will be submitted for verification by our moderators. Run approval may take 1-3 weeks in some cases. You will be notified shortly."

Expect the same from SMB1/1CE/2J/2JCE. It's rare we let runs go over three weeks, so if we do, POLITELY message one of the moderators and ask if anything can be done to speed up the queue.

@cros107 if you're in australia as it says in your profile, then you're also on the side of the world where the site works far more frequently. If I verify runs late at night, USA time, I have fewer problems. But for most of the working day in the USA, the site gives horrendous problems in the "runs awaiting verification" department, probably because it's overloaded more.

I have a very good computer, with a very strong internet connection. I'm guessing it's just that the site is more used during the day USA time, between it being evening europe and work day USA.

By the way, congratulations if you sat there between the three videos and watched over six minutes combined of us just waiting for the site to load runs. That's longer than most any% runs we verify.

Think about it. We can sit there for just as long or longer than an any% run just waiting to load the any% run we're trying to verify.

And I've sat for over a whole warpless length of time just waiting for the runs awaiting verification to load before giving up and doing something else. I have a life outside of waiting 30 minutes for the runs awaiting verification to load.

I beg to differ. Just because I can view forum posts or the leaderboards, doesn't mean I can time the runs.

here's 8bit_Ethan's tutorial on the verification process (it's meant as a humorous -- but accurate -- view of the verification process. He recorded it two weeks ago, well before this thread was even posted): ... it was timing out for him constantly too. That was actually the second version of the video he recorded.

And here's an example of me trying to get there from earlier today:

And me taking 15 minutes to verify a 5 minute run because the "runs awaiting verificaiton" kept timing out for over 3 and half minutes ... which is on the short side for me!: (and I cut some corners I wouldn't be able to with a lot of other runs, so I probably would have taken closer to 20 minutes to verify this run)

I've had the "runs awaiting verification" time out for over half an hour straight and I gave up, despite being able to access forum posts and leaderboards. Loading the runs awaiting verification just breaks a lot of the time.

I'm not sure frustrating mods -- whom many of I thought you considered friends or are at least friendly with generally -- is worth it just to generate some discussion on speeding up the verification of a few runs.

But we each have our own priorities I guess.

" If a run sits in a queue for weeks that's not okay and I don't know how you can argue that it is."

I don't think anyone is arguing that it's okay??

I've been on Darpey's side with comments to mods before, so I can understand the frustration he's feeling. I also feel the frustration of his post since it certainly paints things in a bit of an unfair light to some of the mod team. I just wanted to go through a few points, that only really matter so that the rest of the community is not looking at this as "ethan and goofy are great and the rest of the mods are garbage"

A) Judging by verify count is inherently not the best method, as Picante mentioned. But, to appease, lets say we did only judge by verify count. This data is very misleading for two reasons. 1) It doesn't include the Cat Extensions, Lost Levels board, or Lost Levels cat extensions, of which most of the mods are part of all or at least 2-3 of them. 2) It also doesn't include data about rejected runs. Some mods do more rejecting than verifying, because they have a keen eye for fakes or runs that don't follow the rules.

B ) There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes that some mods with 0 verifications per the OP list are undertaking which may have the potential to give an ENORMOUS time save for verifying runs the future. These mods just get looked down on as "doing nothing" if we just went by the OP, when in fact they should be considered MVPs as well. I don't want to go into too many details, but suffice to say we're hopeful of big speedups in verification time thanks to the work these mods are putting in.

C) Looking at a one month or 60 day window is kinda meh. As Picante mentioned, there are ebbs in flow in each mod's ability to verify. Right now, I'm going through a period where I'm able to verify less. I don't really care about defending myself as much as just giving an example -- if you looked at all the boards (SMB1/2J/CE/2JCE) and added in all the rejected runs the prior two months to this month, I was able to plow through a lot. There was one day I had nothing better to do and knocked out 20 in the queue. This month I'm super busy (work, vacations, life stress) ... you'll notice even my streaming time has gone down. I'll return to verifying a lot more when I get through my next vacation. Ebbs and flows will happen. Mods shouldn't be looked down on or praised based off a flawed verification number.

D) If you wanted to get the ball rolling on discussion, which I'm all for, there are far better ways than saying "GG to certain mods" while making it look like other mods don't contribute. It's a negative post. If you want to say, "hey I've noticed the queue has taken a while to verify some runs, is there anything I can do to help, or what else can be done to help speed up the time" that would be a fantastic use of just getting discussion going. Not a passive aggressive post that makes enemies and angels out of mods that don't deserve it.

Yes, we could use a bit of help at times, and that's something we're discussing. I'm not denying that. But the original post comes across as "here are MVPs and here are loser mods," especially with misleading data and a lack of knowledge about what is being done behind the scenes to speed up the process, or make the process more accurate.

I do agree goofy and ethan should get massive praise for the verification work they've put in. However, I'd also welcome a constructive discussion on how we can make things faster, instead of villifying hard working mods.

@SuperCuBros You realize in a TAS you can advance frame by frame. He doesn’t need to have vision to advance a tool one (or a specific number of) frame(s).

Nestopia has lower input lag than FCEUX. I used to use FCEUX then immediately when I played on nestopia I was orders of magnitude more consistent from the lower input lag. I think it's only 3 frames or so.

OpenEmu is a Mac emulator and can run either the FCEUX or Nestopia core, but at 60fps instead of the NES framerate of 60.0988139fps.

I highly recommend OpenEmu if you can only play on a Mac.

The point is, you need to have a reset shown, or if it's an accidental save state it needs to go to the game selection screen for a multi-cart/multi-game rom (SMB+duck hunt and/or+track and field)

Others have game overed and let the title screen reload after a game over. That's fine too. As long as the game over and title screen reload is shown.

Hi all,

Due to a rash of submissions lately that did not show a reset to the title screen prior to the run, we're posting this reminder to please show the reset to the title screen in your run submissions. If there is no reset to the title screen, we'll simply reject the run with a note to re-submit with the reset to the title screen shown.

This is just one of many mechanisms and rules we have in place to make sure all runs are valid.

Thanks!

Can you run it with vsync off and comapre it to fceux?

Also, try moving around instead of just standing there. I think you'll get framerate fluctuation more. Like play 1-1 through 4-1 (let 4-2 load) optimally on both nestopia (vsync off) and FCEUX and that should be good enough to compare.

Looks like your Nestopia is running at 60 flat. Do you have Vsync turned on for it?

My FPS in Nestopia bounces between 60.0 and 60.5 for a bit to “make up” the .0988139 decimal. Looks like yours stayed at 60.0 the whole time, which is indicative of Vsync on.

@zsjetu9 blubbler was ironically responding that we do have a category that uses the vine. It’s called glitchless. Of course, glitchless also has other requirements as well (which, as a longtime top player, blubbler is well aware of).

If the runner wanted a category like “any% no wrong warp” they’d have to chose a better name because 8-4 also has a wrong warp. Why have a category specifically dedicated to only not using 4-2 wrong warp? Doesn’t make much sense to outlaw only one very specific glitch (yet allow 8-4 wrong warp).

Basically, Blubvbler is (somewhat slyly) suggesting the best solution is to just play glitchless if you don’t want to (or can’t/don’t have the skill yet to) wrong warp.

Or, learn to wrong warp :-)

Also, good reminder of the category suggestion thread that you pointed out :)

Check out Darpey’s safe strats tutorials as well. Great for beginner to intermediate level players. Here’s his YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKMb1nTT5WLG6kWMYsXjhtw

With Darpey and darbian tutorials posted, and other people’s advice, any complaining by the OP after this point should earn the thread a lock because he would be clearly trolling at that point.
