Hi. This is my first time speedrunning a game ever. I have a couple questions on running any% glitchless
- Is the game playable on gameboy sp? I have an old one that I need to find.
- I've been looking into routes and everything seems to be with nidoking on red. Is blue playable? I haven't bought the cartridge yet and like the aestetic of blue a lot more.
- I have a personal goal of getting a run under 2:10. Is this realistic for a casual?
Thanks and I hope to be a part of the speed running community.

You can use a gameboy sp but you would need a way to record the gameboy. Using a gameboy player with a gamecube is a common way to do this. It can be kind of expensive if you dont own a gamecube, gameboy player with disc, cord to hook SP to gamecube to use it as a controller, plus some sort of video capture device.

You will want to stick with red and nidoking. Nido male has a way higher encounter chance in red than blue, so before manips thats why red was choosen. Even today tho, the manips have been found for red only not blue, so stick with red.

2:10 is casual for sure. You can achieve that time with saves, a death or two, and no redbar strats. I think one trap new runners fall into is doing all the very dangerous redbar strats that they see the WR runners doing. Honestly if you get sub 2hrs in this game, it means you finally learned the route fully (which there is tons to learn). Getting a time around 155 you have to be playing fairly well. Then shooting for like sub 150 you have to play pretty much perfect.
Thanks for your response! That's really helpful. I already have a gamecube and an sp, so all I would need is the capture card and the link cable as well as the game cartridge. I'm slightly sad that I can't use blue though
oh he's not saying you can't it's just the main strat to use nidoking/red you can use w/e it's just the meta if you wanna call it that. Who knows you may be the one who finds a new strat in blue that makes blue the new meta and blow everyone away. Do what makes you feel good bro it's a hobby after all.
