@BOSSCAT are you even familiar with all the official color palettes in this game? Because I've seen numerous runs approved by you that have modded skins.
Get out of my dms man. I thought you were done arguing with me. You are just proving to me more and more that you do not know what you're talking about. You can't even get it through your head even though I've said it several times already
You do not need an external program or application to use any cosmetic Guilty Gear Strive mods. No it does not change the games code. Changing a texture is not the same as changing the code, it is reflected exactly the same as the color slot the texture goes over. Changing the code is an entirely different sector of modding Strive and has nothing to do with cosmetics mods.
You working as a localizer (lol) and game developer for ten years means nothing to me if you have no knowledge of this game specifically. The fact that you couldn't even tell the Pyra color was modded says a lot. And I don't know why you're even bringing up "legally modders can be sued". That has no relevance to the conversation. The reason I asked early if this was a site wide rule was because I thought that was the issue, but since it's per game and you can just add rules on the spot that were only in your head up until this point, its becoming very obvious this is just personal issue you have specifically rather than something regarding the game and it's community.
Also no, you were not following the rules. This whole "no use of external programs are allowed or anything that changes the game." is flubbed because the "anything that changes the game" part didn't exist until today.
Do you even get around in the Strive community? Like most people who actively play or engage with Strive know how extensive the modding community is and even people working at Arcsys has shouted it out in positive manner.
"I am finished arguing" is when you go out of your way to reply and then block the person so you can get the final word I guess and then further keep responding because you won't own up to your mistake. "Mods cause legal troubles", "color mods change the code (untrue)" you've come up with so many different ways to spin this conversation away from the original issue in your quest to double down on your mistake of rejecting Rayn's run too hastily. You only started bringing up all of this after having to face that it was in compliance with the rules before you updated it. The fact that this thread exists and that the rules had to clarify this separately only further proves it's not at all what you're trying to preface it as. You're trying to find excuses to double down and justify your decision rather than own up to it and it's disappointing to see. I don't think you should be the one verifying runs for this game. "It's not a personal issue" but then you you bring up several issues you're personally concerned about that had nothing to do with what we're talking about originally.
Tldr, rejecting Rayn's run was a mistake not because you didn't realize it was a modded color, but rather because it was in compliance with the rules until today. And instead of trying to argue and justify that it wasn't, a better course of action would have been to leave the run, but then clarify going forward that after today, no runs with mods will be accepted and if one is found to have slipped through AFTER TODAY, then it will be removed. None of your semantics or trying to flex your "ten+ years of experience" was necessary. If you had just said that, I wouldve stopped and accepted this without arguing further, but no you made the decision to double down as well as come up with every other irrelevant excuse in the book. It's looks bad on your part.
This is my first impression of you and I think we speak for both of us that neither of us have a good impression of each other right now from this one conversation. I don't doubt you're dedicated to speedrunning and the speedrunning community, likewise I am dedicated to the Strive community, modding is not the only thing I do within the community, but it is something I do have a decent amount of experience with. I understand what you were trying to do in showing that you have experience with games to give more validity to your statements, but frankly again, it doesn't matter to me if you do not have experience in this game specifically and it's inner workings. Furthermore, I will stand here and give my opinion on whether or not you should moderate this category because it is a game I care about. I don't care what you do with other games, but I do think someone more familiar with the community would be better suited Strive specifically. Who that would be, up in the air.
The only reason this category is getting a sudden boon in attention is because Rayn made video about his runs and challenged his viewers to beating his records. A fun way to engage with the community while also encouraging more people to try and speedrun the game. I wanted to participate and I spent a good chunk of hours out my day trying to do so myself, but it seems like they'd be invalid anyways cause I have cosmetics on other characters. And after all this, I have zero motivation to participate with you at the helm. You have soured my view.
"You are a snitch" are you five? Not even being able to parse the irony in my previous statement and me being a "snitch" just showed how weird you're being about all of this and also imposing your own opinions and thoughts. "Mods are illegal", report me to the cops then. I took one look at your bio, I don't know if you're japanese or not, but I now understand your perspective if you are. I get mods are illegal over there, but the culture is much different in the US and Europe.
Hello Just catching up on all of this as a mod for this game since it came out i will give some input
BOSSCAT was added to the team due to there experience within the speedrun community to help me and DBcade with this speedrun board and is doing a fantastic job of getting all the runs approved really fast so please do not argue with other mods as they are just trying to make the experience better for everyone and doing what they think is best.
for me personally im a console player im no expert when it comes to mods so some things may have slipped past me but remember i do this for free because i enjoy the fighting game community so does BOSSCAT
No mods are allowed the rules have been updated to be more clear but the rules have always been there referring to the rule no use of external programs are allowed regardless
we will not be changing the rules to allow external color changes at this moment in time and BOSSCAT is only following the rules set by the other moderators
I will be locking this thread now as the conversation has taken a direction i dont feel is great for everyone involved
