and as far as losing all the runs, you could just ask people to resubmit and ye take notes of all the wrs or something like that
Even though there are 570 runs, why should 18th place on Sandstorm Leaper matter if it were to be reset? xdd
How about this. I'll talk to Tac about starting a poll whether or not to sacrifice all the runs in exchange for a better quality experience with new categories.
Pros: Misc Categories are able to be added way easier and they'll be made much less confusing, and we won't have to have two leaderboards (¤Cough¤ Tac).
Misc Categories might stop this game from dying a little bit more due to how optimized the runs are.
Cons: Having to add every single world record again.
Note: While I'll try to keep the world records at least similar to what we have now if the results turn out that we have to change it, it's not a guarantee.
EDIT: The poll thing might not be a thing, and I might just have to do it as an executive decision (with Tac's approval). This is mostly due to the fact that in the olden days of a few months ago, we saw that polls can potentially be hugely affected by a single person if he/she has enough influence, and not in a fair way.
It does seem like a good idea and I hope it goes through. Yes it would be a pain for you and tac as mods but think about how beneficial it would be for the community to have twice as many WRs to go for. It would allow new and more competition, which is what DE has needed for the last what, like 2 years?
EDIT: Now with 12 maps on the leaderboard, half of the maps don't even show up without scrolling over which is quite annoying anyways. It would probably look better if the miscellaneous categories were hidden over entire maps.
I was just passsing by and I have to add that precisely because of this kind of issues is that the site is made as it is. Levels should be levels and categories should be categories. If the change is to be made, I would be willing to help restructure the boards and taking part in taking note of, and adding back the important runs (WRs) after it all is reset.
The reason I did was because at the time (5 maps) the structure was nicer in this order (wasn't like it is now), but I wasn't thinking about future maps and it was a mistake as a result. If you could fix that that would be great (but I'm dead so idk why I'm saying this)
Tbh I don't think ANYONE thought about new maps coming out xd we went like a year at least before another map came out (Time Travel)
This is also a thing about the site changing and adding funcionalities. I don't know how far back was the leaderboard structured as it is, but the site added a lot of category specific features relatively recently. The ability to split categories into sub-categories, or to have misc. categories hidden out of the main leaderboard are both amazing organization features that could benefit this leaderboard, but cannot be used as intended because the maps and categories are swapped.
If this was done a while ago, it was really not a bad decision, as back then it really only changed the axis in which it was shown, but with time resulted in being unable to properly use the features of the site.
I will await confirmation from the moderators in regards to whether the leaderboard will be changed or not. But if my opinion is to have any weight, I would prefer having it changed.

About 8 months ago, paris and tiggz made it a thing where people can submit their PBs to show up on the leaderboard (as 2nd/3rd/etc place runs). If we do change the leaderboard they'll all have to re-submit their runs (if they care enough) which would be annoying for them. Another thing we have to be careful about is some of the current WRs are unlisted so we can't lose the links to the videos.
Craftain does want it to be changed (from what he told me) so ye.
By the way, Izraill, some maps (into the jungle and time travel) have both exploit and no exploit under leaper and disruptor. Would it still be possible to separate exploit and no exploit if we were to change the leaderboard?
Actually I think exploit / no exploit will be a big problem if we were to switch the axes.
If we do swap the axis, we could just take note of the wrs/important runs then get people to resubmit less important runs. Any ways half of the runs are by people who dont play this game any more and i doubt they would care if they lost there runs
One of my personal issues is that it will no matter devalue runs and the lust for good times is part of why this community is toxic in the first place, and this will just enhance that. It's more personal so you guys shouldn't really care, but I just want to put it out there.
To Izraill, I changed the axis some time in December 2015 to early 2016, not sure exactly when. Don't know if that's the reasonable time (don't know when the updates occurred) but I don't think it seemed too farfetched at the time (also considering that the rules and categories were simpler at the time and I probably never expected them to get this crazy).
Also to tac, you can still make E / NE work if you switch the axis; the options for variables are not restricted
You can still divide categories by variables/subcategories, and with the chance to use misc categories added to that, I think it will be a much better look if the axis change is going to happen.
I believe the big site updates came through 2016, so yeah, at the time it was really an irrelevant, and probably good change.
I think only WRs, or maybe top 3 runs of each category, should be preserved really.
No you see we need to divide maps, not categories, also it's only for certain categories on certain maps.
Yeah you can still do that. The "variables" list allows for specific map AND category. You're still able to divide it by map by just specifying the maps correctly
