#Intro
This is a quick guide for anyone that wants to start running the Sega Saturn version. It's meant to be kept as a light read, so it's not very in-depth. It also doesn't teach how to play, that's easier to explain with a video.
#Version Difference Notes
Despite this game having a PS1 port, they play somewhat differently.
In the Saturn version, the AI doesn't seem to be as easy to cheese with combo starters.
And your characters don't regain their energy after a special attack.
#General Strategy
##1. Moving the Power Balance Bar
The fastest way to move the Power Balance Bar is to slam enemies onto the ground. The bar moves twice from the attack and from them hitting the ground.
You can also power up these attacks with the Ki aura, but you need to be careful not to run out during a combo or even close to enemies, or you won't have time to recharge.
Your AI partners can also help or hinder filling the bar.
##1.1. Continuous Double Axe Handle
To keep slamming enemies onto the ground, you can't just keep A + Down pressed.
Keeping A + Down pressed will only let you slam them twice.
After the second slam, you have to release your inputs and press A + Down again.
##2. Special Attacks
Once the Power Balance Bar is full, the character you're currently controlling performs a Special Attack to deal damage to their currently targeted enemy.
If the bar becomes full thanks to one of your AI partners, the Special Attack is still performed by your currently controlled character, against your current target.
Goku is generally the best character to deal damage through Special Attacks. The manuals don't seem to mention this, but all other player characters before Chapter 5 can't defeat an enemy in 3 Special Attacks, Goku can.
Remember to charge up your energy after every one or two Special Attacks, or swap to another character while the AI recharges your main character.
Just don't forget to swap to the main character when the Power Balance Bar is almost full, or you'll accidentally get a less powerful character perform a Special Attack.
##3. Character Selection
Each time a character joins or leaves the fight, a cutscene plays out.
A single character is usually enough to fight against 2 enemies.
There's as much chance of your team AI helping you move the Power Balance Bar, as there is of them undoing all your progress.
And the more AI controlled characters there are in the fight, the bigger the odds they'll launch a fully charged barrage of fireballs, lagging the whole game.
##4. Ki Dodge
If you still have enough energy and you're being combo'd, you can press Y + any direction twice to Ki dodge out of the combo.
I recommend pressing up or down twice, as left or right still keeps you close enough to get combo'd again.
##5. Dodge-Slam
If you're getting combo'd by an enemy, mash A + every direction to try and counter their next slam.
A dodge-slam requires energy, if you have some energy but not enough, you may be able to dodge but will become stunned and unable to slam.
##5.1 No Energy Dodge
If you don't have any energy at all, mashing A + every direction will call out one of your partners to counter for you.
And if one of your partners has no energy and is being combo'd, you can swap to control them and then mash A + every direction to teleport one of your other character to help.
This can even be used to immediately teleport your main character to the next enemy.
#Story Mode Strategy
These are my current strategies for each chapter.
If you have any difficulties, you can bring extra characters to the fight, but be aware of the time loss caused by their intros, damage taken, or lag caused by their fireballs.
I'm still working on a better strategy for Chapter 4.
##Chapter 1
Use Goku, remember to fully charge after 2 Special Attacks and/or when Vegeta shows up.
##Chapter 2
Use Goku, but careful with your energy consumption.
After Guldo and Recoome, Burter and Jeice appear together. Slam one away and focus on the other, then trade Special Attacks between the two.
Once one of them is gone, Ginyu shows up. You should have the other enemy a single Special Attack away from being defeated, so focus on them. You may have to slam Ginyu away.
##Chapter 3
Use Goku. If Frieza begins dodging constantly, just hold him in a combo or slam him in other directions.
##Chapter 4
This chapter still needs work.
Goku is still the only character that can defeat an enemy in 3 Special Attacks, but if he stays in the fight after Android 19 and 20 are gone, Android 16 shows up along with 17 and 18.
Immediately removing Goku will remove Android 16, but the cutscenes still take their time to play out.
Start with Goku, Piccolo and Trunks/Vegeta. Trunks has a longer intro cutscene, but one of his Special Attacks does more damage than Vegeta's.
Use Goku to defeat Android 19 and 20, and keep using him to damage Android 17 and 18 until they're both one Special Attack from defeat. Then remove Goku and finish the fight with the others.
As long as you don't hit Android 16 with a Special Attack, or defeat 17 or 18, you can still remove 16 by taking Goku out.
##Chapter 5
Use Goku. Bringing in any other characters will make Cell spawn a bunch of Cell Jrs.
##Chapter 6
Use Goku. Once Dabura is one Special Attack from defeat, Majin Vegeta appears. Slam him away and finish off Dabura to complete the chapter.
##Chapter 7
Use Goku. Once Super Buu appears, the game automatically switches to Gohan.
##Chapter 8
You begin with Vegito. Once Super Buu is defeated, use Goku against Kid Buu and use the same safety strategy as Frieza (Chapter 3).
