Howdy,

Just wondering about a leaderboard for the Arcade Archive Version of the game, for it does have some differences over the Trilogy version on the PC. Here are the three significant differences that I have noticed

Normal difficulty, the enemies take a bit more damage to fall. Also to note there are 4 difficulties in this version (Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard)

Lag, at least for the switch version if you have more than 4 objects, whether it be weapons or enemies the game starts to lag considerably. I don't have a PS4 so I cannot say whether the lag is less so in that release.

Continues, the game features a coin insert feature, which features unlimited continues. The PC version has limited continues (I believe two game overs before it takes you back to the menu).

I'll link my run from the other day to show those differences.

That was the goal I had in mind, to have it as a separate category, and to avoid creating a new game page since this one is already established.

Hi guys!
Glad to see that the archive versions of ps4 and switch bring people to this game. I do think that playing DD on pc/emulators is a source of cheating, i had the issue with one guy upgrading the speed within mame, which could not be permitted. But the trilogy on pc and archive switch/ps4 bring more fairplay. Good luck with all your runs and dealing with lag on archive versions 🙂

I am in vacations, i just have access to my phone and can not create your desired categories. I just added uw99er as a moderator if he has time to do it.

Cheers,

Ps: twitter/discord me if needed, i do not have notifications on forums from speedrun.com, not sure why ?

Thank you, louiskanak for the mod promotion. I've setup the Arcade Archives tab with the categories Rabbithole mentioned. I added 2 player as a sub category for it may be something we could see in the future.

While learning DD ACA today I noticed a few things of interest.

1). Easy mode is similar to normal mode on the stream version in terms of damage to enemies. ( namely one back elbow, kick to hair pull/ 2 knee bash and throw.)

2). High Kick can be used against baseball bat enemies.

3). They fixed the part where you can manipulate Abobo into throwing the player to the balcony where Wily is. You can no longer land there if thrown.

Might I add that the 4-mob lag from the arcade archives version also applies to the original arcade version (whether that be on PCB, MAME, or on FPGA techs such as MiSTer). The PC version doesn't have this as it really is a redux moreso than a port (see: sprite limitations that were commonplace for 80's games to avoid taxing RAM, the 16:9 aspect ratio, the transitions that are different from the arcade version, the HUD, etc.), which also explains the faster times on that version as opposed to anyone who'd play on an original PCB / MAME / FPGA.

For those reasons, I'd argue that the original arcade version should not be paired with the PC version as it would be unfair to pair a version that visibly runs faster than the other on the same leaderboard. From what I saw, the Arcade Archives version seems to be running at around the same speed, although AA tends to run games at 60KHz cycles (which is essentially the FPS the game runs at internally) whereas 80's arcade games always had slightly slower cycles by a few KHz (for instance, Double Dragon originally runs at 57.4KHz cycles). I had to split categories on Ninja Gaiden arcade between the original and the AA version due to the cycle frequency differences as it made AA run faster.

I wanted to run this game originally, but the pairing with the PC version made me hesitant as I'd rather play on either the original systems, or FPGA hardware replications of said hardware via the MiSTer FPGA (which is the closest thing to playing on an actual PCB as this platform is 100% cycle-accurate to the original material, with no speedup functionalities). There is simply no way anyone playing on the arcade version can compete with the PC times on the board, and it's a bummer that the OG version doesn't have a board separated from the PC version.

If the mods feel there is any merit in addressing what I just brought forth, it would certainly be much appreciated.

Hey MarthSR

Taken into consideration of what you said I sat down and worked out the boards into 3 different categories based on Arcade, PC and Arcade Archives

Arcade will focus on emulated runs, strictly at normal difficulty, but also having 1 and 2 player sub categories. I've seen questions about the addition of player names for the 2 player and I don't see it in the sub variables. If anyone knows about how to do that, any information would be greatly appreciated.

PC will be for the Dotemu version of the game, I added the 3 difficulties and the option for 1 to 2 player

Arcade Archives has been unchanged, but I did move the emulated runs over to the Arcade category.

louiskanak and Remz, if you are alright with these changes, or have some suggestions please let me know. I hope that this may bring more runners to this board.

Can I confirm that the Arcade Archives version has the hardest difficulty found in the OG Arcade version?

Also, how come no one is running hardest? I was thinking about playing that.
