Day of the Tentacle Versions

This leaderboard is for runs of Day of the Tentacle on ScummVM. The remaster has its own, separate leaderboard.

Language Versions

No speedrun-related differences are known amongst the various language versions. The number of text lines is the same, voice lines are skippable, etc. If you notice a difference on a certain language version, let us know in the forums!

And if you are playing in a language that isn't featured on the leaderboard yet, just submit under any language and leave a note under the submission and we'll add the new language.

Releases

There are a number of media sources you can use to play Day of the Tentacle on ScummVM. Refer to their docs / wiki for installation instructions. Make sure to use a recent version of ScummVM, as some very old ones don't run the game well enough for speedrunning.

MS-DOS

1. CD-ROM: Has voice acting. The total number of text lines is reduced (compared to the Floppy release), because in some cases multiple lines were combined into one. This saves time, but since most dialog can be completely skipped in one go with Esc anyway, we are talking about a very small difference.

2. Floppy Disk: This is the only game version that has a copy-protection prompt. It wastes about 8-10 seconds. Plus the above-mentioned text difference. [edit: As of Nov 2024, ScummVM apparently removes the copy protection from the Floppy version as well]

Macintosh

I have never played this version and don't know anything about it. I assume it is nearly identical to the DOS/CD release. If you know about any noteworthy differences, let us know in the forums!

Day of the Tentacle: Remastered

If you use the Add Game... button on the ScummVM launcher and point it at the DoTT:R directory, you can play the original game. ScummVM "extracts" the original game files from the Remastered version automatically. Should be identical to the DOS/CD release in terms of gameplay (only audio differences). If you notice differences after all, let us know in the forums!
