Doom 3 Forum  /  ImFuryPro's run

I'm pretty sure his run is segmented, not SS. He did the same with all of his Serious Sam runs, because apparently he misinterpreted what "single-segment" means.

You can clearly notice several segments in Hell.

ugh, thanks for a notice, gezz

  EwilEwil

You didn't have to reject his run though 🙂

  Tezur0Tezur0

No, I stopped careing about him, I won't be adding segmented thing here.

Segmented != single segment, YET Segmented != RTA.
Segmented is simply a run that is recorded at different times and then video is edited to look like one - that's segmented. Dying and loading during one run kills the fact of Single Segment (for some games it is not true though), but here we don't care if it is single segment or RTA. We care that it is not Segmented, which is different.
My YaE run is not Single-Segment, yet it is done in Real-Time and all fails count towords final time.

Also if you read main doom thread here on forum - it says that this all created to show RTA competition aspects. If more segmented runners appear, we might consider adding that as a category, but normally you just submit that to SDA, cause they are not leaderbords - just WR tracker (and very outdated, because of how slow they process runs). SO they will simply write something like "WR by X in XX:XX:XX done in X segments". Yet if you say that your run is not segmented they will write something like "WR by X in XX:XX:XX" and will change it to "done in X segments" if they will figure that it is segmented or even reject (such cases had place and runner had to resubmit his run with proper information).

Yet I might agree that just deleting instead of creating misc category and placing his run there was a bit harsh. Yet that's just because I had enough salt with that "Single-Segment" bad SDA definition.

There are already segmented runs of Doom 3, unfortunately no mod here cared to include them on the leaderboards. Yes, those runs are outdated, but nobody really tried to improve them as far as I know (Kibbo is working on a new NM run, though). As much as a lot of people on this site don't like segmented runs, you can't just ignore them.

SDA has no "bad" single-segment definition. That's just how speedruns used to be done 10 years ago. The reason for not counting loading times is simple - difference in PC performance and platforms. As for no restarts rule (that was changed later to "single-segment with restarts" category), that was simply to prevent cheating as much possible. Nowadays most RTA/SS runs are streamed and use mic, so SS category is no longer necessary.

Just some info 🙂

It's not your fault that mods accepted his runs without even watching the videos.

  Tezur0Tezur0

Yeah it's sort of situation, which noone expected tbh.
I normally go through runs a bit more closely if they are YT only with no splits or voice over the video.
But looking through entire run - I most of time can't afford something like that. Also normally when person provides a lot of stats I suppose it is correct. But with ImFuryPro it was just wrond understanding of Single-Segment thing, which turned into mess.
There is noone to blame, really, neither those who showed him this website, nor him for understanding it wrong.

Sorry, but if you can't watch one and a half hour long run, you shouldn't even start verifying it. You may as well not require verification at all.

  Tezur0Tezur0

I am pretty sure that most of people check some things in runs and not watch the entirety of it.
That's what makes verification process faster and better comparing to SDA.
Sometimes a run is lying there for weeks without verification. I normally don't touch stuff I have no idea about (or don't care much) - as doom 3 speedrun for me - and I just briefly check if it looks fine (after that long awaiting time). There is just no dedicated mod for Doom 3, but there are global doom mods.

For big communities I don't think that is a problem at all - there is always someone on stream for WR holders and such, who can afterwards prove that run is legit. As for non-WR holders - they might not even care, if it is some 60 place on leaderboard - it doesn't matter if he segmented this run or not.
And last thing - stream is much easier to check/trust, unlike YT vods or other things. That's why timer often is a requirement, so that you can check, that run is not segmented. Of cource you can bypass that by doing another video of your run but now with timer - if some really wants to tryhard for fake WR - I pity him.
I'm normally trustful to people and if they neglect it - then I stop that trust for a very long time. It really is just a matter of trust tbh. If someone is new to a thing and tries to be smartass - once truth is revealed he is gonna have a hard time pulling something like that again.

"I am pretty sure that most of people check some things in runs and not watch the entirety of it.

Yes, the verification process is much faster here than on SDA, but this case proves it's not enough to watch just some parts of a run. I actually struggle to believe that even some parts of ImFuryPro's run were watched as I only watched like 10 minutes of his run and spotted the problem. And I've never speedran D3 before. This is actually a pretty big issue on speedrun.com - majority of mods don't verify. They just check if the video is ok and maybe if the time is correct, and then click "Verify". I've seen it too many times 🙁

"There is just no dedicated mod for Doom 3, but there are global doom mods."

That is unfortunately a problem, but it doesn't mean that global mods shouldn't care. How about Corpseflesh? He's active and currently runs Lost Missions DLC.

"For big communities I don't think that is a problem at all - there is always someone on stream for WR holders and such, who can afterwards prove that run is legit."

Of course, would that be a twitch vod, you can pretty much press "Verify" without watching the whole thing, although like you said, it can be faked, but this was a youtube video, thus it has to be verified more closely.

My point is, I hope the mods here will be more careful when verifying a run. 1,5 hour is not that long. It's like a movie 🙂

By the way, I still think there should be a segmented category for D3. There are already 2 segmented runs that are pretty awesome, and another new one is coming soon.

  Tezur0Tezur0

I was thinking that DraQu might be a good mod for d3, since he picked it up not long time ago and was streaming for quite some time

  EwilEwil

Yeah, probably 🙂
