Save all the time you can; If you destroy Statues of Dredmor or Barrels/Crates from the diagonal, it will skip the attack animation (since you can't attack diagonally).

Don't waste any time; Don't pick up itens you don't need - use autoloot exclusively for food, drink, potions and lockpicks. Anything else you will pick manually (there's few items you want to grab).

Don't waste the time you saved; Don't take detours for items that will save little time, such as lockpicks. Yes, they do save time when kicking doors, but walking 5 tiles to pick up one and then another 5 tiles to go back, it's not worth it if you can open the door kicking it.
