Starting soon all full game categories will be timed with load times removed. We'll use a program to count the load time of submitted runs and then subtract it from the final time. The main reason is that playing on virtual console (VC) gives you an over 2 minute advantage on an any% run (more in longer categories), and cannot be easily obtained. We considered banning virtual console instead, but decided that that wasn't the best solution, primarily because for some players, VC is their only copy of the game. The load counting tool will be available for anyone to use on Speedrun.com, but moderators will still retime every run before it will be verified on the leaderboard.
Expect runs perfomed on the Wii to reduce by about 8.5 minutes, WiiU runs by about 8.25 minutes, and WiiUVC runs by just over 6 minutes. For example the current World Record will go from a 2:46:52 to a 2:40:45.
This won't affect ILs at all. Elaine and I need to retime all the existing runs before this change is official, and we'll be getting on this shortly.
On another note, pausing and unpausing through the in game menu during a run is not permitted to prevent pause buffering abuse, the exception to this is when accessing the pause menu to reset. We won't be removing any runs currently on the leaderboard.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to write a quick post to inform everyone of a recent update that's been made to the game rules which affects all of the full game categories except for the world run categories which act as sequences of individual level runs. All future runs submitted which rank in the top 3 are now required to include the profile select screen showing the profile the run was played on before and after the run in the footage. This is to assist in the verification process of these runs to help ensure their legitimacy. Additionally, showing the Johnny stats page in the hideout after the run is also suggested as an additional layer of proof, although not required. Whilst showing the profile select screen before and after is only strictly required for top 3 runs, it is recommended in general for all run submissions, especially first time submissions.
