• On PC, the game will run faster with V-Sync turned OFF.
• Timing starts when pressing start after selecting a file. (L + R on Switch)
• Timer ends when the screen fades out after completing the Impossible Lair.
• Seeing something like [2, 5] after a level means collect the 2nd and 5th T.W.I.T. Coins https://i.imgur.com/ah5IWTh.png in that level.

A **Bomb or Berry Jump** is used frequently throughout the run. They are performed by jumping and starting the buddy slam animation and getting knocked back mid-air to get on top of objects like fences. Note you can't be too close to what you're trying to get on top of, or you'll be knocked away from the object.
The general method people use is to jump on the 22nd "beep" out of 25 total beeps the berry will make. Here's an **[example](https://clips.twitch.tv/AbstemiousDifferentTruffleTBCheesePull)**.

A **Slope Roll** is the other trick used frequently throughout the run. They can be performed in a number of different ways.
1. Rolling off of a raised platform to continue your roll up a slope. (Used when traversing from Lake to Beach)
2. Jumping, moving slightly toward the slope you are trying to roll up, and slamming at an angle to the wall. Then roll immediately afterwards to roll up the slope. (Used to access Shipwreck Creek/Beach early) Here's an **[example.](https://clips.twitch.tv/EnergeticTalentedFiddleheadsRuleFive)**
3. Wedging yourself between an object (like a box) and the slope, jumping, then rolling. (Only used on the slope directly west of the Lake Paywall.)

A **Long Jump** is the last trick that is used fairly frequently throughout the run. To perform one, start a roll, and jump very quickly afterwards. If done correctly, it will allow you to gain some extra height/distance on your jump. It is used for Desert OOB, and Pipe-Man jumps. [center]**.CT** is a "Cheat Table" file opened with CE[small](Cheat Engine)[/small].
CT Version **1.2** *(September 2, 2021)* - Changed colors to work with CE's dark theme.
*Trainers could certainly be made from this, but a CT will do.*
**Cheat Engine** is an extremely useful tool in general, lightweight and very trustworthy. There's basically no reason not to have it.[/center]

• Open CE.
I'm going to list some setting changes to improve the experience:
• (Menu)Edit ->Settings
Make the following changes:
https://i.imgur.com/Ru4bnC5.png
For "**Automatically attach to process**" enter **[big]YLILWin64.exe[/big]** - This will automatically attach CE to the YLIL game process each time you open the game, so you don't have to do it manually. Check the box underneath this setting to make it more reliable.
The 3 timing intervals are the rate displayed address values are updated. 8ms=125 updates per second.

[big]**Simply open the .CT file in CE and make sure the game process is attached.**[/big]
[section=Hotkeys]
https://i.imgur.com/MlgPY67.png
This will make it easier to toggle on/off the SpeedHack feature without tabbing out of games. May be useful to slow the game down to read specific values or practice/test.
You can set additional hotkeys to specific addresses, and some are already set to **YPos** here:

Downpatching Steam Version + Patch Info

# Steam Downpatching

• **[.NET Runtime](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0/runtime?cid=getdotnetcore)** is required for this to work. (Fast install, you'll probably want to choose Desktop x64)

https://i.imgur.com/B8XyJyE.png

• Download the latest [Steam DepotDownloader](https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases) (Make sure to get the smaller **framework** zip file under **Assets** as it's the only download with the **required .dll file** inside) and extract it wherever you'd like (no installation).

• **Shift + Right-Click** anywhere **within DepotDownloader's folder** to open a PowerShell/CMD window via the context menu option. PowerShell/CMD will now use this directory when executing commands.

https://i.imgur.com/PXiMrVD.png

• Type a command like this, using IDs **listed below** to begin downloading your desired game version:

```
dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app ###### -depot ###### -manifest ############ -username YourSteamUsernameHere -password YourSteamPasswordHere
```

→ Press Enter to execute the command. **It may also request a 2FA code from your email to log in.**

https://i.imgur.com/SRXuXHG.png

• Copy IDs below for your desired game version:

Version **1.01** (Oct/8/2019 - Release): **-app 846870 -depot 846872 -manifest 6433865224888347832**

Version **1.03** (Jan/23/2020 - Demo & Fixes): **-app 846870 -depot 846872 -manifest 4844638176856896424**

Version **1.04** (Apr/14/2020 - NSIL): **-app 846870 -depot 846872 -manifest 6614793114912424526**

These IDs were acquired from: https://steamdb.info/depot/846872/manifests/ (manifests are essentially game versions)

https://i.imgur.com/gXxvEbg.png

Any **errors** during download should automatically retry until it works (give it time)

https://i.imgur.com/rl3AnlW.png

• The console shows you the download progress & location. Files appear in the **depots** folder within DepotDownloader with the IDs you used.

• Copy&Paste or move those files **to the game's original installation folder**, overwriting everything; or do some fancy renaming tricks to keep both versions.

To find your game's installation directory, Right-Click it in Steam -> Manage -> Browse Local Files

• Play normally.

Maybe keep a copy of each installation in-case you need to do this again.

Setting up Steam's installation folder like this can let you quickly switch between versions:

# Patches (Mods can edit!)

**1.03** Patch (Jan/23/2020 - Demo & Fixes): https://www.playtonicgames.com/impossiblelairdemo/

Notable speedrun changes:

• Patched 12-2 Ice Ball OoB (Buzzsaw Falls - Frozen)

https://i.imgur.com/qhzMqoR.png

^There's a faster & easier alternative by rolling into the hole right of the door (all versions).

• Patched 5-2 Leaf OoB (Gasping Glade - Grown)

https://i.imgur.com/v4vhVbz.png

• Patched 18-2 Gear Airswim (Pumping Plant - Powered)

https://i.imgur.com/14b0cmS.png

• Patched 6-2 OoB in the first room by adding collision to all instances of a particular roof object.

https://i.imgur.com/O4GZC6z.png

• Patched Frog Cave Airswim (Overworld) - The entire southern wall underwater had no collision previously.

https://i.imgur.com/G5iYASl.png

• V-Sync fixes - Such as: 10-2 lever platforms wouldn't fall far enough to unlock the level if V-Sync was off. Also: 20-2 being "unbeatable" casually with V-Sync off*(slam jump worked)*.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**1.04** Patch (Apr/14/2020 - NSIL): https://www.playtonicgames.com/yooka-laylee-and-the-impossible-lair-update-live/

Notable speedrun changes:

• Lair takes an extra second to enter (For technicality sake this makes it the slowest patch).

• The state of the Ch 10 tome will occasionally not reset after completing the alternate state which causes 10-1 to be inaccessible and forces runners to complete it first. This is slightly slower and delays the rope zip until later in the run. [*Inconsistent*]

• Lair deaths are more forgiving for new runners.

Save File Decompressor

https://i.imgur.com/Thw3u3S.png

[section=What is it?]
Impossible Lair save files are compressed and are not readable by a human. This program decompresses save files such that they can be read and written to with your favorite text editor. After the desired changes are made, you can compress the file so that it may be read by the game again.

[section=Download]
Download: https://github.com/DerKO9/YLILSaveFileEditor/releases/tag/0.1
Source code: https://github.com/DerKO9/YLILSaveFileEditor

Im not paying $75 to sign my executable with a certificate, so Windows will tell you its dangerous.
If your cautious:
1) Check the source code or build it yourself with Visual Studio.
2) Check the checksum of the executable before running it.
This proves that the .exe file I made is the exact same as the one you received.
3) Scan with Windows Defender, a good antivirus built into Windows 10

[section=How To Use]
Loading Steam Save Files:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\ and then there will be folder(s) with numbers unique to your Steam profile. In one of those folders, there will be another folder with the number 846870 which is the steam id for Yooka Laylee Impossible Lair. Inside that folder will be a "remote" folder where YLIL saves its save files as .dat files. The name of these save files are slot-patch-#.dat where # is the slot.

Loading Epic Games Save Files:
Go to C:\Users\You\AppData\LocalLow\Playtonic Ltd\Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, easily accessed by entering this into Run(Win+R): %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Playtonic Ltd\Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
https://i.imgur.com/K4fQWOP.png

Decompress:
The loaded file will be decompressed and a new file with the name slot-patch-#-Decompressed.dat . Edit this file with your favorite text editor (mine is Notepad++) and then save your changes.

Compress:
The loaded file will be decompressed and a new file with the name slot-patch-#.dat will be made or overwite the one that already exists. The changes you made to the decompressed will now be readable to the game.

Teleport Trainer 1.0

[section=What is it?]
This tool allows you to save Yooka's current position in the game and teleport to that same position at the press of a button. You can also teleport to a position you have memorized/written down by entering the XYZ coordinates into the text boxes. This is useful for glitch hunting or practicing a difficult trick.

If you are cautious:
1) Check the source code or build it yourself with Visual Studio.
2) Check the checksum of the executable before running it.
This proves that the .exe file I made is the exact same as the one you received and has not been tampered with.

[section=Controls]
Keyboard:
-Slot 1 save: Numpad 4
-Slot 1 recall: Numpad 6
-Slot 2 save: Numpad 1
-Slot 2 recall: Numpad 3
Try toggling your NumLock if these are not working.

Controller: (Works for Xbox 360 controllers so far, I'm trying to get more):
-Slot 1 save: right joystick button, then press right
-Slot 1 recall: right joystick press right
-Slot 2 save: right joystick button, then press left
-Slot 2 recall: right joystick press left
You must enable the controller by checking the "enable controller" checkbox

[section=Preset Positions]
These are known coordinates for useful positions to practice with. Pressing their buttons will save their coordinates to Slot1 and then teleport you to them.

Impossible Lair:
TutEnd = The end of the tutorial
BossStart = The start of every boss fight
P#Start = The start of every section in the Lair
P#End = The end of every section in the Lair
Note: Only one section is loaded at a time. You must open the door at P#End if you want to load into the next section.

Overworld?
You can help make these by using this tool and finding particularly useful locations to practice with. Give me a list of a good number of coordinates paired with button names (9 letters max) before I consider releasing a new version with the new buttons. Otherwise, just write down your favorites
