Hi everyone,
I recently made some changes to the category names on the leaderboard and wanted to explain my reasoning to avoid confusion and make sure everything is correct. The categories were previously labeled "Any% (2004)" and "Any% (2007)". After looking into the available versions and comparing gameplay differences, I have renamed them to "Any% (V.Smile)" and "Any% (V.Smile Motion)".
From what I’ve been able to observe :
- The main real differences in gameplay appear to be between the V.Smile and the V.Smile Motion versions.
- V.Smile Motion seems to have several differences such as missing minigames, faster movement, a different intro, one fewer level, and changes in enemy/platform placement.
- I haven't been able to find clear evidence of distinct "2004" and "2007" gameplay versions beyond what seems to correspond to the distinction between V.Smile and V.Smile Motion.
There was also discussion about “grey cartridges” vs “purple cartridges,” but I have only personally seen purple cartridges, and all runs currently on the leaderboard (as far as I can tell) show no visible gameplay differences that would suggest multiple distinct versions within the same category. For this reason, I moved the existing runs like this : the runs previously under 2007 were moved into V.Smile (formerly 2004) and I then renamed 2007 into V.Smile Motion. So at the moment, there are no runs in the V.Smile Motion category.
However, I want to make sure this is accurate so if anyone has more information, could you please tell me if "2004" and "2007" correspond to actual distinct versions beyond V.Smile vs V.Smile Motion, and if so, what are the differences between the 2004 and 2007 versions specifically ? Should the leaderboard instead reflect three separate categories (V.Smile 2004 / V.Smile 2007 / V.Smile Motion) ? If I made a mistake in merging or renaming categories, I’m happy to correct it.
Thanks in advance for any clarification.
