You're suggesting to add further complexities for a seemingly rare situation where a moderator becomes a tyrant and attempts to completely dismantle an entire community's ethos. As the others before me have pointed out, there are available avenues to replacing the current moderators of a leaderboard. The "talk to the current moderator" is given often because of a seemingly common failure to ensure that this is the first action done when suggestions from a community member are placed forth to a speedgame (numerous cases where people want to change up the leadership behind the current moderators backs). Your suggestion would launch the current system into a political pit where moderators would be fighting with each other and with other candidates to ensure they maintain their position in an "upcoming moderator election."
It would be more beneficial to explore methods of how to educate community members on what they can do to better communicate with the current leaderboard's moderators and what options they have should they seem dissatisfied with the incumbents. There is no right way to run a leaderboard and it is impossible to please every speedrunner for your speedgame, but normally a suggestion like this stems from an inability to comply with the current leaderboard's guidelines with an assumed support from the speedgame's community. I find that most of the current leaders for most of the leaderboards on this site are doing fairly well in their duties. If they are not, then there should be more discussion with the next level in the chain to determine how to replace them.
It is likely preference. I personally do not mind multiple submissions for the same run, even if it's ran on the same day.
Just send a quick message to one of the board's moderators if you are still unsure.
- Removed Test: Sabotage temporarily due to lack of updates. This was a testing category slated for the recent Nova Filter test. Due to this category's removal, testing the Nova Filter on an Individual Level is currently halted.
- Created open-world specific "super categories" for Orb Vallis and Plains of Eidolon.
- Released Vault Runs out of testing.
Normally we'd have this category at least sent to Testing by now, but I wanted everyone to enjoy their holidays, so I did not press for it. Many of the staff is still on holiday, but I am actively talking with other communities to ensure that all standards and rules are correct before release. We came up to an interesting case where in-game time may be sufficiently accurate for this, but we're still actively researching.
There will also be categories for the Vox Solaris quest and the other Heists, along with the Profit Takers. So I hope you look forward to all of that. No solid date yet, but I'm aiming for between the 10th and 15th.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
- Removed Individual Levels Archive and placed them as Miscellaneous subcategories in their respective categories. If you are following the Elite board, you will see a drop in points due to this.
- Moved the Legacy Pluto category to Miscellaneous under Planets. The Legacy category is now only for Celestics-era speedrun categories.
- Updated IL Co-op rules to include host perspective.
DVD recorder might not work properly (I don't personally own one), so your next best option would to be use some sort of video recorder. Some video cameras work fairly well, especially if you have an audio input.
- Cooperative runs using in-game time must be recorded from host's perspective or must include a screenshot or screenshots (default key: F6) of the host's Mission Success in the description. This will not be applied retroactively and does not affect any real-time attack runs.
- Added Test: Spy Rush to Full-game Leaderboards with a testing Nova Filter.
This is a preface to explain that I want to take action to create a proof of concept, but I also need y'all to be aware of some issues. The first part of this reply is some issues involving implementation, which do not need to be addressed right now, and the second part is the plans for a proof of concept of this filter, which will be released soon.
Disclaimer: This is not a permanent change to the leaderboard. This is a process of testing the waters for this concept instead of speculating outcomes. If you do not agree with the actions taking place, provide a constructive response as to why. This applies to both sides.
The skill level of anything not Nova is probably the best counter-(counter-?)argument that holds some weight behind it. It is definitely significantly easier to "master" a different frame other than Nova. I can definitely see how this could help more novice runners get their feet wet into speedrunning.
However, the next biggest step that would need to be hurdled is implementation. These questions were not necessarily discussed, so I'd like to clear these up.
-
Implementation of this filter would require an extensive overhaul of the backend variables if it is not applied to all categories. A global variable, like the Update variable, is a single variable that applies to all runs in every category, even if new categories are created. If this variable only applies to certain categories, there will be a major implementation delay. Is it really worth it at that point? I only bring this issue up, because there's 60+ categories available and for each to have a separate variable would be quite a major task to overcome.
-
I'm assuming that there will only be two filters: Nova and No Nova. Does Nova have a significant enough gap to separate herself from literally all other frames?
-
How would categories where other frames dominate certain leaderboards be handled? Examples: Nyx in Dojo Parkour; Ember in MR 4 test.
-
Would this filter be handled as a variable (where the filter appears in the column) or as a subcategory (where the filter will have two separate leaderboards)?
-
How would a filter like this apply to the full-game leaderboard, such as Planet runs, where frames can be freely swapped between each mission?
These are just some details that need to be addressed, but is not necessarily the end point of discussion. I'm extremely uncomfortable with a filter like this (this is an objective point of view, not an elitist one), as I do not agree with an obvious segregation like this. However, I'm willing to work with y'all, if y'all would indulge me the same courtesy.
Seeing as there seems to be a large enough interest for a filter like this, the only way to satisfy the mod team as soon as possible is through proof of concept. As such, there are two candidates that I would like to test this system on, both with the ability to be dominated by Nova. The first category is the developing individual level Test: Sabotage megacategory. Once fully developed, Sabotage will have three other subcategories under each category: Fire, Ice, and Magnetic. The second category I would like to try this with is on the developing full-game leaderboard Spy Rush category. This is similar to the Boss Rush category, except with the spies being the focus.
Once these categories are developed, I'll make an announcement about the testing filter, so please rally others to try out this new concept. The more interest, the better I can help build a case to use this. The points up above do not need to be addressed when these test categories are released, but will need to be ironed out before it can implemented globally.
I could say Warframe, because it's free-to-play and has a variety of different categories to play around with. But this could also be an #Ad.
Your best bet is to find the games you like to play and just try to speedrun those games. I've personally tried multiple games, including games I love and games I hate, and I am still not interested in many of them to speedrun. You'll be able to speedrun a game once you are personally motivated to speedrun the game.
https://www.speedrun.com/Speedrunning/forum is a better place to ask your question since your problem is related to hardware for speedrunning a specific game (and some other stuff). However, I'll still indulge an answer.
Your best bet is ask the community directly about your situation, as this is a specific game and I don't own a Mario Kart game. According to their current rules, you cannot use emulators. However, there seems to be an ongoing switch to in-game time which may allow it, but there's no solid date when this will happen and discussion of allowing emulators will be conducted after the switch. Link to their forums with all the information you could ever ask for: https://www.speedrun.com/mkw/forum
I left a post in the Feedback thread about a variable that would not appear in the columns of the leaderboard, but could still be filtered. This feature may not be seen for a very, very long time, but the suggestion is there and continued patience is needed.
For now, I will not honor the current filter request until the suggested feature has been created. While I find information like this very valuable, I also do not allow the obvious segregation this currently would create. I also ask that the community respect the choices of frames and to not allow a tolerance of an elitist frame attitude. Basically, it boils down to the following points, which may be updated in the Rules & Guidelines.
- Respect a player's choice of frame. If they need help, provide help for their selected frame. "Just use X frame" is NOT a satisfactory response and should be an attitude shunned by our community.
- Do not use your current placement on the leaderboard as a judgement of your skill or ability. The most important aspect I stress is that your placement is not the purpose of these leaderboards. Your current placement is meant to be as a motivator for you to improve your skill towards a better potential placement and to use other runs to help you improve. The competition we have created on these leaderboards is to allow you to work towards the goal that you create.
This thread will be unstickied, but discussion will continue onward. Feel free to leave your comments and feedback.
I'm in talks with @--Q--Alchameth about making updates to the Endurance Rules and Guidelines and I find that it's massive enough to entail some form of discussion amongst the related community. If you're curious on why Warframe Speedruns curates the endurance community, please read this thread: https://www.speedrun.com/wf/thread/hg3pv
These changes are not live and will require some shaping before implementation. Also, none of these changes apply to speedruns.
Here's a list of the proposed changes. Feel free to provide feedback on them.
- All submissions require, at minimum, two screenshots. The first screenshot is from Mission Success and the second is from the weekly leaderboards. There is no exception to this requirement.
- All world record attempts will require, at minimum, video proof of the last 60 minutes of the run. There is no exception to this requirement.
- No different categories/variables will be created between fissure missions and non-fissure missions.
