It looks slower than a quick kill but it makes the fight trivial once it's enacted; interesting! I played this back in 0.25x but still didn't notice anything odd that would have triggered it.

I agree that highscore/anti-highscore is based on turning into a statue (only exception is with Red 2 where after 5K you fall forever) but ending the speedrun when the distance is reached makes sense.

United StatessYn7 months ago

Makes sense actually - it seemed the intended finish for the doodle was at the mud in the 3000's. The goals of 500 and 750 seem arbitrary - 3000 would have been ideal.

Switch platform has been added. If or when runs get added we'll have to see if there is any significant difference but for now all the platforms exist on the same board.

For mouse games, I always suggest a variable that indicates mouse type - because the hyperkin/laser mouse does have advantage over the ball mouse - it can move much faster. So in other mouse game leaderboards, they differentiated the runs with a variable where you can specify mouse type.

Example:

I've seen videos shared on google drive for submissions. You could always consider that as an alternative to upload the video to.

@dalaocu I understand this is a similar issue where a submission was rejected based on rules but it's for a different game - and I checked the S.C.A.T leaderboard - maybe the rules have changed now and emulator runs with VODs on sites other than Youtube or Twitch would be allowed. Either way, I would suggest any discussions for S.C.A.T. be continued on those forums.

Just an idea...

What if the glitchless category still used In Game Time (IGT) but your highest survival time is the PB.

Example, the highest time you can achieve is 19:58 - you have to do this without the wet bandit glitch.

The fail screen and win screen shows the IGT. If you fail, you still get a time - anywhere from 19:58 to 00:00. The only thing is the timer counts down; so you would need to subtract the time to show how long you survived for. SRC lets you put the highest time being the best.

The leaderboard could actually be competitive where the top runners (survivors) would have 19:58 and maybe the PB's below that would be 19:57, 13:24, etc. Basically, whatever you survive till. This could encourage people trying to beat the game "glitchless".

I feel this forum thread has gone way beyond it's purpose; people are upset, they voice it here, but we all need to do better.

Let me just put it out there, I have no bias or preference one way or the other. I am a runner of this game and I see what's going on in the community and I feel SRC will always have some grey areas when it comes to moderation but at the end of the day; the more competitive it is, the more eyes will be on it.

We all know Xenkaroshi; he's unfiltered; what you see is what you get! And honestly, he is a person that cares about the integrity of the leaderboards. I am not saying he demonstrates that with tact, but he cares. If he didn't care, he would just leave the site too because who wants to put up with all this drama?

And MTL; when submitting a WR time, MTL should expect it will be questioned. It doesn't mean he cheated, but yes, the community may want to proof call the run - this is common everywhere - not just speedrunning - a WR run is held to a higher standard purely by it's nature. Charlie felt that his time wasn't accurate, so he re-timed it. So did LynnCarius. There was a timing error, that's all

We all have a right to submit a time here, and be competitive - and when we submit a time, we expect we are going up against times that are accurate to the rules and standards - we expect a fair competition.

So please, keep this in mind, not just for Life Force but for every leaderboard - put aside the suspicions and bias and review the submissions according to the rules and what the community has decided is fair. MTL should feel welcome here just as any other runner - that the moderation team and community isn't going to be biased.

Not sure how this happened or if it's happened to anyone else; Abobo just disappears and we were awarded the victory. A couple of links with varying lead time if anyone wants to study it.

For such a short game that doesn't have an ending nor any glitches that anyone is aware of, I propose just change the category name to 1-Loop. It's as close to a "finish the game/run as fast possible" category when Any% isn't possible. In the rules, you may continue to specify no cheat codes allowed.

There is a typo in the "Any% All Characters"

Also, the full rules for Max Save should probably be stated in the category rules.

I forget who I heard it from, but I understood it is random. I considered there is a subpixel issue but no matter what manner I tried the jump, I found nothing reliable. Maybe someone can confirm here.

United StatessYn1 year ago

In btrim's absence I've assumed the mod role. I will get rules in place and get the runs timed accordingly.

I am going to make one change to what is above - the timing will end on the final hit to the boss. This is mainly due to the fact it's much clearer to time to the frame (since the score changes on the final hit). I'll re-time runs.

Start on selecting "1 player" is also hard to time to the frame, I may suggest the moment the HUD reaches top of the screen (essentially on control in SDA timing fashion) but for now all the runs start on player select so I will leave it as is.

Thread: Tiger-Heli

If ms were added the rules should also state clearly what the start and stop frames are for the run and existing runs re-timed before the board goes too deep.

Well I am glad to see you actually enjoyed the game in the end and I do hope more people play it.

The big tip: You can turn off animations in the battlefield (we don't usually see the battlefield in the run but for beginners, the battlefield's poor AI is certainly easier to deal with then relying on Entrust/Computer decision). But with animations off, you miss the charm of the game but it's much faster.

There's a lot of RNG to contend with but my general route is as follows:

  1. Choose Gemfire Scenario, Blanche Family

  2. Set message speed to 0.

  3. If Keyla (Province 1) attacks Owen (Province 3) 1st round, it's a reset.

  4. On Owen's turn, buy most troops (this will prevent Keyla attacking)

NOTE: If you have the Lyle "seed" (see Speedrun terms/tips - https://www.speedrun.com/gemfire/guides/54k3y) you can immediately go for Adryl/Andrew/Walther/Seth defections even without Ander banished.

  1. Use anyone to try and defect Pender (Province 19) and Raith (Province 18), they are easy defects.

  2. Use Gweyn to try and defect Hubert in Province 28 (she has best chance of success)

  3. If Lankshire family spreads/not land locked, usually reset. Geoff is an easy defect (Province varies), and Shabard (Province 20) is stubborn but there is a chance of defect.

  4. Go for the Ander bait strat with 10; move 000 troops to 15 in hopes Ander attacks you there. You can retreat and then attack Ander in 15 later on with a strong force and might get capture. When Ander is banished, you can easily defect Adryl (Province 9), Andrew (Province 2), Walther (Province 8) and Seth (Province varies) and surrender Lyle.

NOTE: If you get Pender, Raith, Hubert, Shabard, Province 15 and 16 along with your starting provinces (essentially you need to possess 12 provinces to surrender families) you can surrender Divas as soon as possible.

  1. Move all your troops to your Province 10 - you need a strong front to push through Lyle if you fail defects. You will need to corner Ander and win (usually fighting off Adryl first).

  2. Defect Kelvin (Province 25) and Alaine (Province 29) to get Tudoria down to two provinces and surrender them. Sometimes Bradley makes it out there, he can be defected easily, too.

  3. If you move all your troops to Province 25 and 27, and entrust those two provinces, they will wipe out Province 24 in 3 turns/attacks (2 fail, 3rd is success). That gives you a chance to surrender Tate family.

So by now you should have Divas, Tudoria, Tate - that usually leaves Lyle being worked on, and Lankshire being worked on.

Lyle, you have to get down to two provinces to surrender them - if you have enough troops, you can fight or rely on defects. If you got the Ander bait, you're in good shape for defects.

Lankshire, you have to defeat them - they do not surrender. If Eselred isn't landlocked in Province 22, a fight there will leave you having to fight his backup, Elford. But if he is landlocked, the strategy is to plunder him till he has no food left and then take Province 22 with an entrust fight.

It's a very loose "route" because how the computer uses their turns can change the course of everything. You should never see a battlefield if you use Entrust properly; and you should be done by September (before harvest comes because then it's really hard to get through fights).

But watch a few of the runs and you will see the general idea of what we try to get done in the first couple of months.
