Completely forgot about this topic - thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone! I went ahead and did a run of Noctropolis, but I can still look at some other games to do as well.

@happycamper_ I used to have the record for LSL, which is the Sierra series I'm most familiar with. I don't know the others so well but I'd be down for checking them out sometime.

@mynameisAndy I'd love to check out the Humongous games! I never played them before but they look like a lot of fun.

I love point-and-clicks and I'd like to stream games people would enjoy watching. I have the record in some games but as there's really no competition I'm not really motivated to revisit them.

What kinda old adventure games would you like to see speedran?

Sorry I completely missed this! It's been a long time since I ran this game but what it comes down to is knowing the exact sequence of events and practicing them over and over until you can do them as fast as possible. You're basically always going to be furiously clicking on something. It's painfully tedious and tediously painful, but once you get it down running the game this way can be pretty fun.

A few key things to know are:

  1. Mashing the Esc key during dialogue often skips it faster than clicking (but this will break the game sometimes, so be careful lol)
  2. "I" opens the inventory, number keys correspond to dialogue choices
  3. Double-clicking on any exit location makes you use it instantly

In terms of the general game, that should be about it. The lodge has its own deal, but it's mostly trial and error, ammo conservation, and knowing what weapons to use on who. Let me know if you have any questions!

Awesome, I'll throw up your Discord link on the side! It was missing an "s", though (I was wondering why it took me to an adware site lol).

And no problem! I feel like all my questions were more than answered and I have a much better understanding of how DOS games run, so it's all good! I'll definitely check you guys out.

Very interesting! Forgive me, I actually had no idea. I'm not tech-savvy so all my knowledge on the topic is anecdotal. You've explained things very well though, so my concern is alleviated. I'll probably try some LSL 1 runs with max DOSBox cycles then and report back. Thanks again!

This sounds interesting! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. If I had a passing interest in this kind of thing I'd ask for more information but I'm just here to play games fast.

That basically answers my main question though. As long as unthrottled ScummVM is basically the same as max cycles Dosbox, then it's fine by me. If it was faster though, I don't think it should be allowed seeing as it's not something that's reasonably-accessible.

But that does make me ask, are max cycles typically allowed as Any% runs of adventure games? If the goal of a speedrun is to play a game as fast as possible emulating the original game and its fastest intended way to play, shouldn't acceleration methods like that be prohibited?

Essentially the title. Noticed the new run by @ChuckGrody utilized unthrottled AGI in ScummVM and was wondering what this entails, exactly.

I tend to run all my dos games in dosbox and haven't especially dabbled in ScummVM so it'd be a big help understanding what it means and how it can be replicated. Thanks!

Good call tbh. I love this game and was thinking about running it, Sega CD is definitely way slower. Hopefully it gets a split soon.

No reason to change the gamespeed by typing, except I just find it easier since I have to type again immediately after ("open door", to get into the bar), saving me the trouble of moving my hand all over my keyboard.

I used the same settings as Osmorosvo - that is to say, Cycles auto (3000), frameskip 0. Not sure how to provide proof, but I'd definitely like to. I was confused as well why his game was so slow compared to mine.
