PCSX2 is the allowed emulator for PS2 usually.
Look on SSX3 page for example.
But you can play on Duckstation, it’s accurate with original PS1
Xbox emulator is innacurate with original XBox, just submit your runs on the real Xbox
Just submit your runs on the real Xbox and i accept it
The absurd thing is that supposedly we don't compete in the main categories, but I got 4 world records in Original without losing a single life in the 4 categories.
The gotvg players don’t submit on SRC. I don’t think you get WR for Very Hard.
My cousin also did it without losing, and that's because we didn't have a computer.
I can add your runs it it was on the real Xbox
You put Xbox emu when you submitted
What I think is happening here is that he removed the overclocking category because he doesn't like or hates emulators.
I am an emulator runner on a lot of games (Super Mario World, Pokemon, Metal Slug etc)...
He also says that the console can be overclocked, but the overclocking category was created for emulators (in PC).
It was created for PC emulators without thinking a console can be overclocked i guess ?
and on top of that, you moved it all to "category extensions."
This is "others platforms" board, not category extensions board.
I will put the console runs on the main board if this is the problem (but not packed together ofc )
If you wanted to separate each console with its respective runs, you should have done it within each Metal Slug
I will do that probably when i will can (add Aca Neogeo, Complete PC etc on the main boards)
And delete "others platforms" board.
There are people who have played on different console emulators, whether PS2, PS3, or even Android; all of this was in the "others" category. Why would all of this be moved to "extension category"?
PS2 runs, Android, PS3 etc were packed together. It created accuracy problem on the leaderboard (you can see on Metal Slug 3 board)
Runs on Aca Neogeo have different framerate, load times etc comparing to a Complete PC run for example.
As I understand it, "extension categories" are for "challenges"—meeting a condition for these runs, for example, 1cc or NoDeath. But moving console and emulated console runs to "extension category" doesn't make sense. What would be the reason?
It isn’t "category Extensions" board but "others platforms" board.
I dont think removing runs without checking them is right. I would have left the old runs there, since they were not proven to be cheated
The problem isn’t the cheating aspect but the fact console runners can overclock their setups and can create ethical problems on console leaderboard.
I run on PS2 emulator on Metal Slug Anthology, and now there is not a category for it.
PS2 emus are inaccurate comparing to original PS2. And even if i would separate console and emulator, i wouldn’t know the emulators used cause i see no emulator window or something.
And I am not the only one with this issue, far from it.
I want to say, you're a PC runner. There're other emulators. You can play on Duckstation if you want a console experience (i put the link on "Game Rules")
You can play on "Complete PC" version also (it’s free and easy to download if you search on Google).
Accuracy is important on a leaderboard.
After being critized cause i archived overclock, i create this topic about why i took this decision :
-
This isn’t an official platform. Steam, Aca Neogeo etc are official but Overclock is just a modified platform (who is banned in most of video games, you're supposed to unmodify your setup)
-
It doesn’t make Metal Slug more accessible or more easy to speedrun or something. You just delete the lags / slowdowns of the game. I can understand lags on Metal Slug 2 for example can be boring but this is how the game is.
-
Overclocking is possible on consoles like Playstation 2, Xbox etc and Metal Slug games have been released on all platforms basically.
And cause you cannot show CPU Speed on console unlike emulators like Kawaks or FBA, it did overclocking very hard to detect on a console run. A PS3 runner would win an advantage over an other PS3 runner. And it does work of a moderator very hard, way harder that it could be.
- Overclock is banned on almost all games on speedrun.com (generally said you cannot speedup and speedown the game).
I understand Overclock was accepted and loved in the past but it’s always important to see the pros and cons when you accept "modified" stuffs like overclock. And it’s hard for me to see the pros with this decision
Discuss if you want to.
-
How do moderators verify runs? Can their method be trusted 100%?
-
Since GOTVG players usually submit replays (a run is supposed to be live, not a replay), how do moderators verify a run without input display or other means?
Timing
Time starts when you land on the ground. Time ends when the last boss dies.
General Rules
Level must be displayed on the screen during the gameplay.
Autofire is banned (Autofire must be show on "Off" for Anthology during the gameplay).
Start with 3 hero per continue.
To qualify for 1CC, you must never use any continues.
To qualify for No Death, you must never die.
Emulator Rules
Runahead is banned.
No use of save states, restore points or rewinding. Show a normal reset.
Memory viewing is banned.
ROM hacks aren't allowed.
LUA scripts aren't allowed.
You can only map one key to any one button.
Platform Rules
- The only allowed emulator : Duckstation
- The runs on Duckstation are classified as PS1 (emu)
- Don’t modify the game speed on Console and Duckstation.

High Level Run Rules
If your run seems almost perfect, your run will be considered a high level run. High level runs are subject to additional scrutiny by the moderators, and the responsibility will be on the runner to prove their legitimacy by following as much of the additional rules and recommendations below as possible.
- Visible game video and audio are required. The gameplay being obstructively covered or loud music over the game audio can lead to rejection
- It's highly recommended to stream the attempts. The best is to submit the full Session on the "Description"
- It's recommended to submit your LiveSplit file. You can use therun.gg to do for example.
- It's required to put the credits after "Mission All Over!" screen and highly recommended to show the score after the credits also.
- It's required to show a hard reset before the run for all platforms.
- It's highly recommended to use an input display program for console runs even if the handcam is generally a better proof your run is legitimate.
- It's highly recommended to have audible button presses on the gameplay. An other proof to show your run is legitimate.
- For runs on Duckstation, it’s required to show FPS, emulator speed at 100% and input display during the gameplay. Required to show Runahead isn’t used also.
It's a strategy like any other.
As soon as both players start mission 1 and do each mission, it's automatically a coop run...
One of reasons why No Death runs must be separate with Death runs since it's impossible to do that when you do a No Death run (I'll separate them soon).
If it’s on Duckstation yes.
You can do one hand runs on Duckstation if you want to.
Instead of No 1CC, 1CC Death and No Death.
No Death is the one where there's disavantage and the rules on gotvg are about No Death runs only generally.
Overclocking puts an ethical problem :
-
Even if I would only allow Kawaks and FBA for overclock runs, the fact remains that it's possible to overclock an Xbox, Saturn, Neo Geo etc (and it wouldn't really be against the category).... In all speedrun games, it's generally specified that the runner isn't allowed to manually change the game speed and do it faster.
-
It's much more difficult to moderate the runs afterward to ensure the runner has reverted the game to its normal speed. (It's possible to show the CPU speed on emulators but not on official platforms)...
So I'm thinking of removing the Overclock category but since many people have done overclock runs (myself included), I'd prefer to have a discussion with the community first.
You must be agree with the current rules of course.
I didn’t finish to change the leaderboard and write all rules cause i have no pc currently but you can postulate.
Well, a runner can put 12.1 Mhz / 12.2 instead of flat 12 Mhz on Winkawaks or 101% instead of 100% on FBA, it would be way harder to see the difference....
And when you show cpu speed, emulator window is showed anyway also (just to be sure the runner is really on Winkawaks)
I read Mame / WolfMame is at 12 Mhz.
FBNeo and GOTVG are at 16 Mhz.
Winkawaks is at 16 Mhz by default but it can be changed.
The old moderators put the runs on "Original" are at 12 Mhz but because FBneo and GOTVG are at 16 Mhz and cause the runners weren’t forced to show CPU Speed on Winkawaks / FBA (probably some runners keeped 16 Mhz instead of putting on 12 Mhz), it seems fair to change the "Original" category.
An other problem which will be really hard to fix...
