Streaming was the first step, but marathons drove most towards RTA.

That's great for one runner. Now do that for the 30+ that might interest you.

Having the ability to follow a runner here would free up time checking past tweets, twitch vods, or youtube. Check one site (here) to see the latest runs from your favorite runners. It's a feature to drive traffic to this website. Why would anyone here be against that?

@Quivico a bias is not an opinion. Saying you're biased suggests you have an ulterior motive for promoting Gunpoint, and the game may not be worth the time despite your suggestion. A bias is rarely a good thing.

@SioNisti based on the games you run, you might like these:

Tower of Heaven Within a Deep Forest Birdsong

This is one of the reasons different categories are created.

It's Mr. Pants ... get your own WR today.

Ignoring the titles in those series mentioned, here's a list to look into (some are questionable quality, and some might even be questionably RPGs):

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II Castlevania: Curse of Darkness Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Champions of Norrath Champions: Return To Arms Colosseum: Road to Freedom Drakengard Drakengard 2 Evergrace Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel Forever Kingdom Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel Graffiti Kingdom Monster Hunter Odin Sphere Okami Phantasy Star Universe Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus Radiata Stories Rogue Galaxy Shining Force EXA Shining Force Neo Star Ocean: Till the End of Time The Bard's Tale Virtua Quest Ys: Ark of Napishtim

First-person perspective: Eternal Ring King's Field: The Ancient City

Turn-based with active chain combos: Summoner Summoner 2

If you're going to do this, which I already advised against, know that TMR may have popularized the idea, but he isn't the only one to do it. A lot of his goals were based on Nintendo Age's attempts at a community beating every NES game: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=31&threadid=140551 (sample thread) and this list of endings from GameFAQs https://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/916386-nes/faqs/26831

While those are great for NES, I haven't seen the same effort to document Genesis and SNES game endings. There are plenty of on-going "beat the system" library challenges. Some documented in this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/176pFv9a3AJIe14VavJFwFSWdLRK9TZ-5uSy3rFyhoZA (note that most people started up within the first year as TMR, but few dedicated the amount of hours per day, and no other challenges in SNES or Genesis have been completed to date). So, your estimate of 5 years is hardly realistic. In any case, good luck and have fun.

Advice: Don't do it. Just play the games that interest you, and forget the rest.

On backseat gaming, make sure the streamer is specifically asking for help, and not just thinking out loud. Some examples of thinking out loud: "I wonder what this might do," "Now what could that mean," "now where should I go next." Usually when asking for help, a streamer will directly address chat, "can someone in chat tell me/help me..."

Other cases where you might feel an urge to comment (e.g. streamer just walked by a secret/obvious thing), and you don't know their preference for being told about the game, you can just ask what their stance is on chatting about spoilers. Usually that won't elicit any vitriol. The term "blind" has come to be used to indicate that it's the first time someone is playing a game, and doesn't want any level assistance/spoilers.

King Arthur's World is a pretty chill SNES game.

This is a pretty chill "game" too http://illogictree.com/games/kyoto/

It would be nice to have the ability to follow runners in the same way we can follow games.

Most RTA timing starts on first input (pressing start on the title screen in most cases) compared to SDA's start time of character control. SDA timing is meant to cut out time that has little to do with playing the game (character naming, optional settings before the game starts, prologue cut-scenes).

End points for RTA timing sometimes include the full credits, but that depends on a game community's rules.

Found it for you: http://ddrkirby.com/games/labyrinth/labyrinth.html

I think all PC games should have a link to the game, but especially web games.

What's the game?

more people should run Star Guard - https://www.speedrun.com/starguard

There are an overwhelming number of free games. Here are some with already established leaderboards:

Any web game is probably free - https://www.speedrun.com/games#platform=Web Tower of Heaven - https://www.speedrun.com/tohvn Within a Deep Forest - https://www.speedrun.com/wadf Maldita Castilla - https://www.speedrun.com/maldita

Plenty more; have fun

Just play games, and if there's one you like enough to play again, try to do it faster. Keep improving, time yourself, and then you're speedrunning.

Have fun.

A couple free game suggestions:

Tower of Heaven Within a Deep Forest

I've been meaning to give Trampoline Terror a good attempt at routing. I think I'll make that my next game.

Welcome to the community. :)

My guess would be the Character filter is actually defaulting to something other than Any (Penguin maybe), but that's reflected on the page itself. Any way to check that?
