I just randomly decided to retime this run because it seemed like an especially late split at the end, and it appears to have actually been a 9:08 which is even more insane. Would even be UWR if it was submitted as a co-op run instead...
Retimed (Start Frame: 264, End Frame: 33175, FPS: 60, Total Time: 9:08.517)
This has been relatively well known for a pretty long time, but I specifically remember people mentioning that it would not help at all for the speedrun, and thus, no one never used it. I never tested that myself to confirm or deny their claims, so all I can really say is that it would be cool to see it used if people can in fact find ways to make doubleshot valuable! I do agree that it should be banned for NMG but would be fine for use in Any% runs, especially since it was never specifically disallowed despite being known about.
Sorry about the very late response. I wanted to test what you said about the ~ stuff for AHK, and Nal and I also had to have a good think about everything you said. First off, I'd never actually heard anyone mention that double binding like that was so easy with just using a tilde. Would've been extremely useful over the years when I needed to do exactly that but only knew of ways with "Send" commands and stuff that were extremely janky. I'm sure I'll be making use of that for scripts in the future lol.
As for the actual question you asked, the unfortunate answer is that any runner could double bind like that without anyone ever being able to detect or prove/disprove that. Our personal stance is that double binds to allow yourself to do strats like same-frame inputs should not be allowed, but since there is absolutely no way to actually enforce that, the best we can do is hope people give their word that they won't do it. However, like with anything similar to this in speedruns, if the main runners want to allow it, then we would support that; some fangame speedruns have far more questionable things allowed just because the runners wanted to do it that way.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly, but if I am, rebinding a key using AHK makes that key no longer read in Windows as the key you're actually pressing. So if you press the R key but use AHK to make the R key function as a T key, Windows will not see you as pressing the R key at all but rather just see you pressing the T key. As such, if you tried to also bind to another key using the in-game control settings, it would still have the same issue as if you didn't use AHK at all. The only way you could make that work is by double binding a key using AHK--like making the R key function as both an R key and a T key at the same time--and double bindings get into pretty iffy territory since that's not something you can do without the use of scripts.
If I am misunderstanding, please feel free to clarify!
I'm pretty sure your interpretation of "the Lad passes Mario" probably wasn't what the rules originally meant, but it's also tough to figure out exactly what was intended lol. I had thought about a few possible options for re-times (since all runs would need to be re-timed anyway), so if you have feelings on any of these or have your own thoughts about where the timer should end, we can adjust the rules accordingly.
-
Stopping the timer when the "Game Clear" achievement would appear. This one probably makes the most sense but would also be the hardest to make consistent since not all runs actually have the achievement pop up and would need to be estimated.
-
Stopping the timer when the "THE BOSS WAS DESTROYED" text finishes fading out. This would be relatively close to the point when the achievement would pop up which makes it close to in line with the first option. However, it's still a little difficult to determine exactly what the last frame of the fadeout would be, especially when a video is lower quality.
-
Stopping the timer on the first frame that the red Lad locks into place in the "LEVEL COMPLETE" bar. [Example] This has a very clear stopping frame and should be easy to make consistent between runs. The only thing is that it feels a little arbitrary as a stopping point (though I guess any stopping point is kinda arbitrary so y'know).
So as mentioned, if any of these sound good to you (or you have better ideas), we can adjust the rules to match and re-time everything. Nal and I are both fine deferring to what you prefer since it isn't exactly an active leaderboard at the moment.
Hey, Wogyt! Yes, you are free to use multiple shoot keys if you'd like to.
A long time ago, a mod made the decision to ban the use of multiple shoot keys for every fangame speedrun because of a legacy rule that came from Boshy speedrunning, but it never really had a reason to exist and wasn't upheld at all.
Hachi, you are the one creating drama and expressing your opinions in a way that talks down to everyone you disagree with. Everyone else in this thread has been very civil and willing to discuss the topic (with the exception of Velato who was being hostile in response to you doing the same in the thread he created). Get over yourself and learn how to have a discussion with others. I will not be responding to you any further.
I am by no means against the existence of a "Category Extensions" board separate from the main Boshy leaderboard if there are people who would actually want one. My entire argument is just that "True Any%" is a category that has been run before (if even just by BBF) and is the definitive fastest way to speedrun the game--which has historically been the goal of speedrunning regardless of whether or not the fastest method is the way people prefer to run the game. This was not a decision I made entirely by myself, and there were no ulterior motives or targeted attacks from anyone. I talked with Anso about the category two separate times (and he isn't against its existence even if he finds it mostly useless), I asked BBF but didn't receive a response (which is just kind of standard fare with him), I asked Yagamoth as the creator of the run (who agrees that it should be added, if even just as a misc category), I've spoken with ItzFallenFly (who seems in favor of "True Any%" existing as well as adding several other categories through an Extensions board), and of course I've spoken with Nal about the entire situation (who was also willingly made a Super Mod by BBF because both of us are long-time trusted members of the community).
I am by no means clueless about Boshy, as I have not only learned the entire speedrun before but have also been watching runs of the game for over a decade, as well as contributing a few strats to the run and following the progression of it from pretty much the very beginning. I am not some random person who lucked my way into Super Mod status and is making wild radical decisions with no thought, and my desire for a "True Any%" category being added is not even intended to tell people how to run the game. I primarily feel that it is important to document a run like that, especially when the standard "Any%" run has so many different qualifiers (No WW, Avg Mode, DBO which is also technically NG+) and does lead people to wonder what a true fastest run of Boshy looks like.
I also don't agree with the assertion that the category requires no skill and would therefore make you not a "real Boshy runner" because speedrunning should not be about gatekeeping and elitism. Nal and I have personally managed a board that had a category which was extremely short and genuinely required no skill, and there were a ton of people who had never touched the base game before and only ran it for the sole purpose of getting a free WR. "True Any%" is by no means the same situation and does still require people to understand the game, learn the strats, and be capable of defeating Solgryn--which regardless of how much of it you're able to skip thanks to EZ Mode does still require a decent amount of skill. This instantly makes it undesirable for anyone who just sweeps through SRC to find short, easy categories and would therefore be considered a "fake Boshy runner."
The way I see it is that the "True Any%" category does have value as a speedrun regardless of how many people run it and how much of a "meme" it may be. This is why I stand pretty firm on its addition to the leaderboard, be it as a main category, misc category, or branched off to a "Category Extensions" board along with other misc categories people have run before or are interested in running in the future. I know Anso and ItzFallenFly have several different categories they'd like to see added which gives merit to there being a separate board. But if an entirely separate board is to be created, I'd like to see a discussion about what categories people would actually want to run and therefore have added to it, rather than branching off a single category and not considering what else should be there alongside it.
I have restored Velato's post as we feel it is important for everyone to have an opinion regarding this discussion, but we'd like to remind everyone to keep it civil. Nal and I already intend to add the category (and frankly always assumed it was already on SRC), and quite honestly the only important discussion is about whether it should be considered a main category or a misc category. I heavily lean towards it being a main category for the reasons outlined by Velato, as well as the fact that Super Mario World has "0 Exit" as a main category, Super Mario Sunshine has "Any% ACE" as a main category, and Ocarina of Time uses ACE in the main "Any%" category.
Yeah the proper timing is when the screen goes to black. I'll update the wording to be more clear.
Hello! This thread is no longer being used for run requests. Please contact either myself or Naloa on Discord or Twitch if you need to have something added to the leaderboards.

Hi! I'm a Super Mod for the "I Wanna Be The Guy Fangames" series ( https://www.speedrun.com/iwbtgfg ), and I needed a single game to be removed along with being added as a Super Mod to several games that are not currently being moderated by any of the series Super Mods. If I'm added, I can add the rest of the necessary Super Mods myself. All of the following games have moderators that are separate from the series mods which means we have no way to keep them active if people submit runs:
I Wanna QoQoQo 200 ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_wanna_qoqoqo_200 ) I Wanna Be The TsuTaMao ( https://www.speedrun.com/tsutamao ) I Wanna Be The Chokochoko ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_wanna_be_the_Chokochoko ) I Wanna PD Happy ( https://www.speedrun.com/iwpdhappy ) I Wanna Be The Air ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_Wanna_be_the_Air ) I Wanna Hurt The 100 Skys ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_wanna_hurt_the_100_skys ) I Wanna Be Well Soon ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_wanna_be_Well_Soon ) I Wanna QoQoQo 100 ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_wanna_QoQoQo100 ) I Wanna Be Beginner Friendly ( https://www.speedrun.com/iwbbeginnerfriendly )
And this is the game I'd like removed from the series due to not having any runners:
I Wanna Be The Biginer 3 ( https://www.speedrun.com/I_Wanna_Be_The_Biginer_3 )
Thank you very much! If you have any questions please lemme know because the IWBTG speedrun community is set up a bit strangely.
