Steps to obtain the European version will not be discussed here, in this forum, I will explain how to run the French European version on consoles outside of Europe.
Why French European?
- French European has fastest dialogues in this game, especially in Peach's Castle, this version saves 5 seconds compared to the English version and almost 5 seconds compared to the Japanese version. This could save time in the Any% category, and possibly even more in other categories, Russian is slower, according to tests
Comparision: If you are a runner on EU console, you can ignore this tutorial:
Differences:
- French EU and French US are not the same and the text speed is different, French US is slower than French EU.
- Russian version is slower than other versions.
- French EU has faster texts in Peach's Castle and in some places.
- Lakitu’s single text before Toad Mission is faster in the US and EU versions (all versions), Japanese and Korean versions take an additional 8 frames to display the rest of the dialogue, losing 24 frames in Any% and 104 frames in Glitchless.
- Game title screen loads faster in English, French EU and Spanish US, the rest of the US, EU versions need an extra frame to load, Japanese and Korean versions need an extra 4 frames.
- French EU loses 114 frames during the second dialogue after drill shell tutorial over English, which may affect Glitchless but not that much to be slower.
- French EU, Japanese and Korean versions are faster before the second phase in the Bowsers fight because they have fastest texts.
- Install homebrew on your console, go to this link and follow all these steps to mod your console https://3ds.hacks.guide
- After hacking, install Luma Locale Switcher from this link https://github.com/Possum/LumaLocaleSwitcher alternatively you can also download from Universal Updater
- Open Luma Locale Switcher
- If you are using cardrige or digital, go to Titles
- Find a game, it should be called Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros., in a Japanese console, Japanese title will appear instead, the Title ID at the end should be displayed as 132800 for EU version
- To make this work, in "change region", set to EUR, in "Change Language", select EN, FR or ES (especially FR); on a Japanese console, select JP, on a Korean console, select KO, launch the game and exit, then return to Luma Locale Switcher and change the language to FR
Alternatively, you can install European custom firmware to your console but it is not recommended as you may brick your console
- Use this link and follow these steps https://3ds.hacks.guide/region-changing.html
- Choice Old 3DS or 2DS - 11.15.0 - EUR - CTRTransfer for Old3DS models, New 3DS or 2DS - 11.15.0 - EUR - CTRTransfer for New3DS models
Due to differences in loading times on different console models and emulators, after talking to Lando_Blando, we decided to separate the console and emulator boards due to inaccuracies in loading levels on the emulator. Console runs remain unchanged in terms of RTA.
From now on, the only emulator allowed on leaderboards is BizHawk 2.10 or higher. The reason for this decision is that on this emulator, loading times in the game are always the same for everyone, unlike on Citra and its forks such as Lime3DS or Azahar. A link to BizHawk can be found in the resources section.
EN: Due to the release of the Special Edition, leaderboards have been created specifically for this version. Please submit your runs from this version here. https://www.speedrun.com/TAdndSE
JP: Special Edition版のリリースに伴い、このバージョン専用のリーダーボードが作成されました。このバージョンのレース結果はこちらから送信してください。https://www.speedrun.com/TAdndSE (DeepL)
After checking the loading times and asking the runners about the console model and how I checked on the 2DS, I can't tell if it was on the digital version or the physical version except for the 2DS, due also to the lack of testing due to unavailability of testing, the Old3DS XL and New3DS remain without times, here are the results.
- New2DS XL (Software DL ver.): 24.667
- New 2DS XL(digital): 24.950
- New2DS XL (physical): 25.000
- New3DS XL (digital): 25.033
- New3DS XL with ntr: 25.033
- New3DS: -
- 2DS (digital): 25.933
- 2DS (physical): 26.067
- 3DS: 26.167
- Old3DS XL: -
As a result, the New2DS XL seems to be the faster option for speedrun due to loading times, it should be mentioned that I have not pronounced emulators here because loading times are still inconsistent with the console, in BizHawk it came out over 24,483 so it would require a discussion on that, Lime3DS/Citra PabloMK7? and probably Azahar in loading times after testing with me, radu and vegemii it turned out that the loading times depend on the hardware, however they are a little slower than New2DS XL and New3DS XL it still doesn't change than against for example Old3DS, it should be mentioned that from the opening cutscene it was tested from pressing start to the appearance of the dialogue, I also want to thank some of the runners for sharing information and for helping with the tests.
I will update this thread if something was tested
Descriptions found and links to Turbo controllers for Nintendo Switch on the Mario & Luigi Speedrunning discord, the PC can play the turbo application which can help skip texts faster as well as with any controllers from other manufacturers, most controllers for PC will not work on Switch and you need to buy a controller with turbo functionality for that console, PS5 and XboxSeries X/S is not possible with Turbo playback due to the fact that it does not have it yet, however Switch does and if anyone is interested then you can buy controllers from this top
- Horipad + for Nintendo Switch https://stores.horiusa.com/horipad-for-nintendo-switch-1/
- Fire rate of 20.25Hz
- Customizable through Hori software (Macros not allowed)
- This controller is better considering Fire rate
- 8BitDo Pro 2 https://www.8bitdo.com/pro2/
- Fire rate of 16.8Hz
- Customizable through 8BitDo software (Macros not allowed)
- This turbo controller is very popular but has a slower fire rate, it's ideal for new players but if you want to be faster it's not worth buying it
- Horipad Wired Controller https://stores.horiusa.com/horipad-for-nintendo-switch/
- Fire rate of 20.1Hz
- Cannot customize button layout.
- Probably the cheapest controller out there at $20 on amazon
- There are some pros and cons to buying it, controlling the turbo button can be awkward, probably the cheapest controller, it's a great alternative with fire rate if you're looking with a lower price tag, it can be a tad slower than the Hori Pad + controller but it's fine to skip texts faster, it's also available on many online ordering sites than the Hori Pad +
Note this will be important, IL will not be added due to the difficulty of doing them in some levels, if you turn off the game and turn it back on you have to go through the whole game over again so I decided not to add them, in Any% you can only complete the first level to then select the option that will cause the game to turn off.
I got a run from PE24 with a description about adding them, I am not adding for this reason, I recommend in this case to join our Project Kat/Paper Lily Speedrun Community server, we have a tamaghost jump channel you can write about https://discord.com/invite/WkpcRkrrJk
Good morning, I ran this game and I did all the categories and my first runs from this game are waiting for verification and I want to ask if it is possible to change the end rules for each category because for some and for me it is a bit unclear where and how exactly to finish and describe in each category what you need to do because it's confusing in my opinion and it would be a problem to understand where to end the time, besides the level tables are unnecessary for this game as it is on the original version tables, if you prefer to leave it I wonder why only from selecting Chapter Select, if someone wanted to, they could even do PB during the Full Game run and change the beginning rule to when the text of the chapter you are currently doing will be shown, it's just my opinion but I think the changes would be useful
After checking the Door Clip in Our Last Stop and comparing it to taking the pipe and breaking the window to get to the computer, it turned out that the clip through the Door was 8 seconds faster than the normal break the window
To do the Door Clip is to go to the location where the computer is, exit the location and return to it and you can then Clip through the door
Hi, I am interested in this game and want to ask if the Load Remover plugin (LiveSplit.js) is allowed for this game? https://github.com/samjones246/rpgmmv-livesplit
The plugin does not affect the game and allows you to stop the timer in LiveSplit when there is a loading screen, most of the moderators I asked about it for other MV games allowed it, it will not work on the network version
Thanks
Since when is it allowed to use speed up to x10 in RPG Maker games? I've tested almost all the original games I know on this engine and this feature doesn't work in original games except in EasyRPG. Also, using a feature that EasyRPG has, e.g. speed, is not allowed in speedruns because it leads to cheating between the original downloaded versions.
Hi, I don't usually do this in these games on speedrun.com but here it will be quite important, I got runs that didn't start from the Main Menu at the beginning of the video, I want to clarify that the time starts from selecting New Game after that the sound is required in the game which means for users of the mobile version to have sound in the game, please check the rules and Game Rules more carefully so the runs won't be rejected
Thanks
Hi, I am interested in this game and here is the thing, this game has been added to the bundle on Nintendo Switch Online and I have a question is it allowed to play this game on Switch?
besides, here is a picture that the game is available in this package
Hi, after seeing Ann's leaderboards again I want to ask you why there is a Variety Mod subcategory, it is totally not needed and no one will do it just like with 100%, I suggest you change from 5 Endings to All Endings because it sounds better and is understandable in games with endings and why is there no category of endings like there is in most RPG Maker games?
Hi I am interested in this game and have a question if the Disney Classic Games Collection version is allowed? If so, is it possible to add PS4, XboxOne, PC and Switch as platforms
