All Gameboy consoles (except GB micro) are perfectly fine for running the game. The main consideration is how easy it is to record, assuming you want video proof
Edit: thought this was a different leaderboard lol, video proof is required for this game so you'll definitely need to be able to record your runs
in Livesplit settings, there is a keybind for undoing the previous split (I don't remember what it is by default). If the autosplitter ever splits when you don't want it to, just press that key and it will be fixed.
The above section in this page (linked in Guides on this site as well) explains how to do the trick. There's a couple things you need to do in order to get the trick, so without seeing how you're failing I can't provide more advice than that
Switch's GBA virtual console runs faster than more accurate emulators/original console, so this time should be converted due to how close the times are. Regardless, this is still WR, and still 25 seconds. Nicely done!
A couple setups are detailed in this guide linked in the Guides section.
Other Rules
- Use of Amiibos is not allowed
The asap-est way to let yourself know is to read the rules
Let me quell your fears. I can guarantee you the saving behavior is 100% intended. If you want you can run the game without skipping the cutscenes, in order to relive the hilarious and heartbreaking moments from this game's deep story.
This document is linked in Guides. See the Fast Fall section in that document for a specific explanation of the information you need.
The Gameboy Advance's "game reset feature" is actually part of the software (game) that is being played — they are individually designed to restart when you hold A, B, Start, and select at the same time. If the game supports this button combo, which Warioware Inc. does, it will work on all releases of the game. As for checking the load times for Switch vs GBA, your best bet is to have a direct HDMI recording of a Switch run that uses this button combination, and then frame count it and compare it to a run done on a real console (e.g. werster's or Shasta's)
I hope the Fastest Version gets found soon — I would hate to lose time to scrolling text in a game with no scrolling text! I can't believe people haven't been researching this since 2003, shaking my head.
According to the rules it seems like it would:
For normal levels: "Time starts on spawning into the level and ends on the up input on the exit"
The thing is, this exploit seems kind of annoying to set up, so it's probably best if either the rules are changed or if it's just disallowed. (Unfortunately, cause it's kind of cool)
If Pepino is on a ladder going down when you restart a level (he doesn't have to be currently moving when you pause), you have control instantly when the level loads, possibly saving around 1.7 seconds IGT. I tested it on two ladders in John Gutter and two vines in Ancient Cheese. Below is a video demonstrating the difference between restarting a level with and without the ladder exploit.
My apologies, these rules apparently were changed from Wario Land 4 rules, but they used to be identical
No, nor is it allowed to use mGBA standalone. Assuming you're on windows, BizHawk is about as easy to set up as RetroArch anyway.
Hi, I am making this post to draw attention to the fact that the emulator runs on the board have inaccurate/unfair load times compared to the runs done on console. This was a problem with the run from a few days ago on WiiUVC, which has since been deleted, although there are still some pretty low times done on emu, most of which seem to be DeSmuME, which is known in other communities to be inaccurate and too fast. This also applies to runs done on flashcarts, SD loading, NDS-bootstrap, and other console methods that bypass the use of cartridges. Currently melonDS is the only emulator considered suitable for speedrunning DS games. Going forward, I have two separate suggestions for how this can be mitigated. Either runs under a certain threshold (such as 58:00 or 58:30) should not be accepted if run on desmume/wii u/flashcart etc., or they can be accepted with no restrictions but should be hidden by default (this is a toggle in the board moderation settings). Thank you for your time, and I hope this post raises awareness and helps a solution come forth.
