Around two years ago, Saints Row 2 was blessed with the Juiced patch, making the PC version finally playable on modern hardware after so many years. This also resulted in slight surge of new runs, notably Any% category, which I eventually decided to split into two sub-categories: one lets you use the Tornado attack helicopter (boooring), and another doesn’t (fun!). Nonetheless, Saints Row 2 is still far from being a popular game for speedrunning, and dividing the category resulted in splitting an already small leaderboard leaderboard with 9 runs into two even smaller ones with 4 and 6 runs, respectively (with me being the only one who ran both sub-categories, hence why it’s 9 runs).
Now, as a very responsible (not) moderator of the SR2 leaderboard, I decided to start small by archiving co-op leaderboards (that I have added around the same time I split the Any% board): there have been no co-op runs submitted as of now, and empty boards don’t look very appealing. That shouldn’t stop you from attempting any co-op runs though if it’s technically possible: besides using RTA for co-op runs, the rules are pretty much the same, so if you want to submit a co-op run, be my guest!
And now, the actual topic: to potentially correct my past mistake of splitting the leaderboard I suggest the following options:
-
merging back both boards into one, and either a) adding a variable for Tornado/no Tornado option, or b) not adding any variables (aka how the leaderboard used to be back in the day);
-
moving Tornado runs to a misc/meme board (personally as much as I or anyone else might dislike Tornado runs, it is still a valid way to do a speedrun (whether you use the mod to increase Tornado spawn chance or rely on pure luck));
-
nuking every single Tornado run and only allowing non-Tornado runs (the most extreme option for all Tornado haters out here. As per the previous point I am not considering it but you might have a different opinion compared to mine);
-
leaving both leaderboards split just the way they are now and pretending this forum thread never happened.
I welcome any type of opinions and criticism but it’s very likely that I’ll end up merging both leaderboards regardless (hinting that I prefer the first option myself).
Since the regular Juiced patch introduces a lot of features that are not present in the vanilla game, I have changed the rules to only allow the LITE version of the patch (basically it has all the fixes to make the game run smoothly without changing the core gameplay mechanics, plus you don't need to modify any of the .ini files at all).
I'll keep the runs that were done on the regular Juiced patch before, but as of now runs can only be done on the LITE version.
I have also fixed the link in the Resources tab to lead directly to the LITE version for the sake of convenience.
The following modifications can be used for speedrunning the PC version:
- Juiced LITE patch (highly recommended as it fixes a lot of issues with the PC port; includes patched SR2_pc.exe if you are playing on Steam version);
- Increased Tornado spawn rate (if you want to use the Tornado attack helicopter in your runs).
Other useful tools:
- Saints Row Powertools (if running the vanilla version without the Juiced LITE patch);
- Saints Row Powertools - Speedup Stopwatch Test (if running the vanilla version without the Juiced LITE patch).
