Yes, the idea for this category seems to have been "reach the end of the world cup as fast as possible," and that happens to be done fastest by abandoning matches lol
Man if all these hundreds of people online who complain about glitches and never do any speedruns just did some glitchless speedruns instead, our hobby might actually have a cool, thriving glitchless scene. Oh well.
Thanks for the very fast reply! I'm glad to hear PCSX2 should be fine. I'm not that familiar with PS2 emulation or the HDD stuff but if I do end up messing around with it, I'll share any findings.
Is PCSX2 allowed? I don't think I saw anything about unofficial emulators in the rules/forums. I've considered doing some runs of WA3 someday, but I'm not too enthusiastic about purchasing a particular model of Japanese PS2, the HDD peripheral, the Japanese disc, and whatever else I'd need to run the game optimally. Obviously I don't HAVE to run on the most optimal setup, but personally I don't like leaving time on the table, and these issues aren't as common in the cartridge-based speedrunning that I'm used to.
Hypothetically, would running on PCSX2 be comparable to whatever load times/etc. are achieved with the fastest versions/hardware/models/peripherals/etc.? Thanks.
@MissRaven Based on the graphical glitches (Chef's eyes) and age of the WR I think it's more likely that it really was done on emulator, but maybe. I'm leaning towards RNG/glitch but with time hopefully we can figure this out. If I had an original cart I'd try to grind on that to hopefully get footage of the glitch but I don't have one. More footage of the skip happening moving forward would help, so anyone who gets some, feel free and post here until this is figured out!
@MissRaven Yes, I used an expansion pack. I don't think I've tried the game without it before. Maybe it could be involved somehow like you said. Also I'll mention my runs were done on an EverDrive-64 X7. SouthParkStuff did their runs on emu so my 1:45 might be our first run on N64 hardware featuring the "glitch". It's nice to know it's not just an emulation quirk.
Initially I suspected it would occur when the game tries to trigger a Pressure Round when you're playing as Cartman in single-player mode, but the glitch seems rare enough that I doubt it. My best guess is that it's either got something to do with scoring, or it's input related (doing the dialogue skip early enough or within a certain window, etc). I sure hope it's not RNG lol. If I think of more ideas or find more info I'll share here
The footage is in the 1:45 Quickie I submitted a couple days ago. You can see it in my pending runs or on my YouTube channel for now. It's the only time it's ever happened to me. Would be great to figure it out eventually
I'm also curious what triggers the bonus round skip. I've only had it happen once and I'm not sure why it happened. If anyone knows, please share!
Thanks for your patience. I've added co-op as a main category so that all other categories can be run in co-op. I renamed the pre-existing category (Any%) to "Solo" for clarity. Let me know if there are any questions or issues. Have fun!
Sorry for the delay, I was out of town for a while. Thanks for your interest in co-op Armorines, we will add it soon. I'll post here when the categories are added. Thanks for your patience!
Hey, I became the new mod for this game today. I'm sorry your suggestion is receiving such a delayed response. It's a good idea, and I've implemented the change. Thanks!
As the other primary runner of this game I want to indicate that I agree with Lively, and would appreciate seeing these changes made. It feels strange to have these platforms share one board when they're so drastically different.
Hey, there are no rules listed for most categories in this game. What settings are allowed? Are automatic Z cancels allowed? Fastfall aerials? Anything, everything? With no rules and most runners not showing settings before/after runs, I assume anything goes, but figured I'd ask here. Thanks.
