Can PS3 Emulation be legal, or it's own category?

Tennessee, USAOGHappydude14 days ago

There's a few issues I have with this, as I've obtained CFC2 and looking for the run to learn. I understand that JakatoXtra verified the run, but to hide it behind a subscription paywall should have raised a few flags. I might be the first person to see this as a issue because I have to give someone I've never met $5.99 to see the run as this has got to be the lowest of low to protect "Strat stealing".

Even though I see that someone had verified the run, I feel like "No-vid-no-did" should come into play.

I was wanting to see if anyone knew how to set up the dip switches for Any% in Fightcade. I'm having a hard time understanding which setting i need for Any%

You are fine @XirZs. lol

It's just a generalized, unspoken, rule of thumb when making videos. Some of them are rules while some of them are not.

I'll be using this thread for any assistance if anyone wants to ask questions pertaining to OBS, Dead as Disco running or anything else pertaining to speed running and the SRC submission process.

With that being said, GGS to everyone that has submitted within the first week but there's a few things I would like to mention and/or point out to some of the runs I've verified so far.

#1) When it comes to submissions to SRC, and you've got multiple runs recorded, submit the PB and have the other runs for back up just in case you've got a run rejected. IF you submit multiple runs, I'll be forced to reject a run, that is permanent on your SRC page for everyone to see. I don't like rejecting runs personally, so to prevent it from happening please upload your best in a session.

#2) (Speaking on DaD specificually) Even though it's not in the rules yet, do not block any UI that can assist the moderation teams to prevent cheating. There's a series of combo strings that the UI pops up on the right hand side. Guess where most of everyone's splits are? On the right hand side dead center, placing it above the UI for the combo strings. Try to place the timer on the left where there's empty space in the game. OR you can shrink the game just a little bit and place the timer as horizontal under the game. (I can provide photos on what i'm talking about if need be.)

I'm so happy that I can be involved with this small community, however I have some interesting news. SOMEONE (Who will remain nameless) submitted Dead as Disco to SGDQ this year. With that being said, please note that there's more marathons out there!!!

The only way to get people to see that DaD can be a game you can speedrun, is to showcase it!!

ONLINE EVENTS Binary Breakers: A community and stream team dedicated to showcasing and supporting members of the competitive gaming and events scene who are between, outside, and beyond the gender binary.

Fast Paced Events: A Speedrun Events Team raising money for LGBTQ+ and Mental Health Charities.

Power Up With Pride: Power Up With Pride: benefiting LGBTQIA+ charities, featuring LGBTQIA+ speedrunners.

Prevent-A-Thon: A charity event in suppoI rt of Little Warriors.

GDQ Hotfix: Hotfix features Games Done Quick's regularly scheduled programming. Our diverse roster of shows spotlights different communities, challenges, and flavors of speedrunning! Shows are separated into seasons, with two shows each weekday, and special events on weekends!

Frame Fatales: Frame Fatales is a community of women and femmes who are interested in speedrunning, charity events, and gaming! It is a space for you if you identify as femme or a woman in any way that is meaningful to you. Cis, trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming individuals are all welcome to join the Fatales community!

These events will be updated when I find more cool events to share!

So I'm not going to sugar coat things here, but I feel like with this game being a week old, I would personally see how the speed running community around this game forms before we start making challenge runs and/or new categories.

With that being said, "No Upgrade" was the first thing I started thinking of when this game was released. Then it was "Set List" where you would have to download a pre-determined setlist to speed through. I've got a few things up my sleeve but I would have to also talk to my fellow moderator to see if it's something they would be interested in.

Also, I'm not going to say if "Enough people run this category, I'll make it a thing.". Multiple communities have said that personally to me for years, and when we've gotten enough traction nothing has happened. I'll let yall know in the forums when it happens.

I would like to see if the demo would be available for IL's?

I currently have 45 World Records.

I've done speed runs for over 50 games.

What's your excuse?

Tennessee, USAOGHappydude4 months ago

To keep people from resetting and having to do the tutorial over and over again we have streamlined the rule set.

It will be RTA instead of IGT. Timer will start at the moment you select the stage, and (As far as the demo goes) end when the cinematic triggers at the end of the stage.

Game audio must be heard at all times.

Streaming is highly encouraged but not recommended.

Timer is encouraged but not recommended.

All current runs will be retimed following these rules!

Note: The rules might change at full release, so this applies to the demo only right now. :)

@Ziemson

So instead of simply re-doing the run, you chose to be all big mad and run the risk of site suspension for harassment?

You do you boo boo.

@Ziemson Then instead of calling them out, go to their discord and talk to the mod team respectfully. By using the language you've used you have dug yourself into a hole. Just talk to them like a normal human and settle this dispute.

@Ziemson That's what happens in general when a huge update happens. I personally don't see a issue with what the mod team for Rocket Racing are doing arciving the Pre 44.00 runs.

With the game being delisted there's only a handful of ways to play it. Be more than lucky enough to buy it when it was available, or emulate it via a PS3 emulator. The question I have now is, why in the world is emulation banned?

What difficulty do i need for season mode?

Also what categories accept change of difficulty for runs? (I would like easy runs)

Tennessee, USAOGHappydude10 months ago

With the arcade port having a 0 star difficulty, any chance to set up a CFC2 category for Any%?

Tennessee, USAOGHappydude11 months ago

What about a "PokeBall Plus" catagory?

The only downside is that you'll need a hand cam, but it's the best idea I can think of.

Sense I've become a mod there's been discussion about the use of the Marvel Vs. Capcom Collection. Not the fact that it was being used, but there's been a few oversights that wasn't caught until now.

The Addition of a Level Zero Difficulty.

When the Any% was created we all thought that it was as true to the original source rom, and let it fly. I'm not sure if it's a "QOL" update, or just something added by Capcom to make it as easy as they can make it. This added the difficulty counter to 9 (Nine). This was brought to my attention by DBCade and was confirmed by LRock617 that the original hardware and MAME had eight difficulties.

The Addition of One Button Supers and Specials

One of the hardest things about learning runs for fighting games is the moves list, and the consistency of execution. This was changed in the vanilla version of the collection when they added a way to map specials and supers to a single button. Why bring this up? These were oversights not caught. Plain and simple. This also undermines those who want to play on original arcade hardware or MAME, making it appear that the MVCC is the best way to play the game. As some people do not have the ability to buy a modern console or play on PC, we are looking to rectify the situation.

The Fix

The Fix currently as is would be to move everyone that showed a Zero difficulty into a newly minted category named MVCC. This would make both Level 0 (Zero) and one button controls legal in this category. As this was posted, I'm actively moving all runs that were performed on the MVCC to it's own category.
